Gaining juice from affiliate links
-
Afternoon Mozzers,
We run a basic affiliate program whereby we distribute banners and tools to affiliate sites who then link back to our homepage via these, often through a tool that incorporates an HTML link with our primary keyword term embedded. This banner/tool/link heads to our homepage, and will then incorporate that particular affiliate's unique code in the URL, eg. www.example.com/1A-265-GNH
Seems pretty standard practice so far?
So, considering this, that we include our primary keyword term in HTML in some banners, some also link to our homepage via an embedded image (and others then just work off cookies as per usual), can anyone hazard a guess, or know for certain, the beneficence of this as a link building means?
I ask in terms of trying to determine whether to continue punting our tools and banners as a decent link building opportunity, or concentrate more on other link building means.
Hope I've been clear enough, but am happy to elaborate if need be.
Cheers

Thanks, Heather. Getting a clearer picture now.

Hi Martin
The parameters in the URL are a big giveaway that this is an affiliate/paid link, so it's not a good idea to rely on these solely for your link building campaigns. There are ways round this by using cookies to store the affiliate details and keeping your URL clean, but your current system may not allow this.
As Ryan says, never have all your link building eggs in one basket. It's much better to diversify. This will look more natural to the search engines and hopefully mean any changes in Google's algorithm, should affect you too badly.

Thanks, Ryan.
Great link, too.

Concentrate on other link building efforts.
Affiliate links should be nofollow. If Google determines a link is related to an affiliate program, they will devalue the link.

Tweeting affiliate links...?
I work in the music business & am published music producer. I'm an authority in my niche. Yada yada. I have a website that sells products to other music producers. I recently set up an affiliate partnership with someone who is also in the music business but on the management side. She is not an authority to my customers as far as music making goes. But she does have a huge following of people who are EXACTLY who I am targeting. She has been tweeting my affiliate links. The traffic has been great, but the purchase response has not been. I've had much better responses from reviewers and other music producers who have tweeted my links. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for the most effective ways of tweeting affiliate links? Thanks!

Does Google look at Domain Registrar owner information when counting links into a site?
Question: If the domain registrar owner info is the same on two websites, will Google/other search engines discredit any linking between the two sites when calculating page rank? We have two company sites. One is our main ecommerce domain which we have been linking into from information domains in the past. We recently cut ties with the company that hosted them for us and wish to host them ourselves to preserve the inbound traffic. We are worried, however, that the traffic will be discredited now that we own both domains. Thanks for looking!

Redirect to Affiliate script via htacces - Is that risky?
Hi, We are offering an affiliate programme to publishers. The problem is that the links to the Affiliate Script are very user-UNfriendly (something like http://scripts.affiliateprogramme....../..../....) I would like to give them a simple url: www.website.com/PublishersPage And then redirect this via HTACCESS to the script link (which would then send them back to us). Would that be a problem for SEO? for Google? Thank you for your help.

Can anyone help me find the broadband ISP affiliate program I need?
I have a couple sites that deal with broadband internet access, and I'm looking to monetize beyond adsense. I'd like to sign up for some affiliate programs from internet service providers like Charter, CenturyLink, Comcast, etc. I found a couple affiliate programs but I am having no luck at all figuring out the programs that so many other websites are involved with. In about every case, the user is able to enter in their address and then a search is performed, returning programs available at their location. The programs I've found just do the traditional ad click-throughs for a possible commission. Can anyone enlighten me what kind of programs they are using?

Using follow links on client and resellers site
Hi, i have a backup software product that I sell to business. I would like to create a badge that says something like "powered by x backups". This would be an image with a href url pointing back to my company site. I would intend to give the client a discount if they were to place the small logo in the footer section of their website. I would also like to offer this to resellers. For example "Authorised reseller of x backups" badge that could be placed on the resellers website. I would like to do this for two reasons: To promote my company to the visitors of the clients website To build link juice Would this be effective in building quality links? It this type of link building allowed by google? If not, how strict are they? Is there any variation of my intended promotion strategy that would be more effective? Thanks

Outbound Affiliate Links - Positive or Negative Effect
Hello I would like to increase the value of my value proposition to users by adding complimentor affiliate links and embedded widgets like postcode search to my promote my affiliate's service. I already have a great ranking.... Am I jeopardizing my position by putting outbound links to affiliate sites? Also would a nofollow tag on an affiliate link work? I understand Google is fast changing - so what is the latest advice on this for Spring 2011? Thanks a lot
