Steps to Improve Page Rank and Domain Authority
-
Hi
If the quality of web pages is very good I believe rankings should reflect this. My domain is at least 3 years old.
What steps would you recommend short term and long term in terms of how to improve page rank and domain authority? Thanks.
-
Hi Matt
It's ok Thanks for the clarification. Domain's age = authority and trust in the search engine's eyes and hence an effect on rankings. Everything has it's own impact within the algorithm I agree.
Thanks a lot.

Whoops, just realized I addressed my last response to Gaston, but it was meant for you, SEOguy1. Fixed.
No, a domain's age is not factored into DA or PA (though it may factor into Google's rankings; I've heard mixed opinions on that). A site will not have a higher DA simply because it's on an older domain.
-
Hi Matt
Doesn't a domain's age have a bearing on Domain Authority and Page Authority ?
Thanks for your contribution to the discussion.
-
Hi SEOguy1! I can't speak as much for Page Rank, but you'll really only increase your Domain Authority by improving your site's backlink profile. DA is calculated almost entirely with link metrics.
-
It's quite possible that a brand new site going from 1-9 if a few months is due less to their discovering a magic solution than it is to our crawler finding and indexing the site. From our page on Domain Authority:
"We score Domain Authority on a 100-point, logarithmic scale. Thus, it's easier to grow your score from 20 to 30 than it would be to grow from 70 to 80."
Usually a score of 1 means the site simply isn't in our index, so I'd be willing to bet what you're seeing there is simply the brand new site being indexed for the first time. 9 is still a pretty low score.
Also, keep in mind that Domain Authority is a link metric—it's calculated entirely based on the strength of a site's link profile. Adding content, regardless of the type, will be less effective than gaining links.
Lastly, a decrease in DA score can easily have more to do with the growing index than with anything you did. As a logarithmic score limited to a 1-100 scale, fluctuations in index size and changes in the backlink profiles of extremely high-authority sites can cause scores to drop across the board. Rand explains in better detail here.

I sometimes wonder if Domain Authority takes much time to increase, I've watched a Brandnew site, go from 1 to 9 in about 3 to 4 months, with 47 pages and only 8 backlinks most from a SEO site.
Seems they found a magic solution, since in that same time, I've seen myself and other sites, add content, increase backlinks but since we lost a backlink or two, and went through the reindexing, we've lost points to our DA, mind you my client's site and their competitors in question are 650+ pages including product pages.
I'm starting to wonder if the eCommerce stores in general are being hurt because of the product pages, instead of helped.
Since why would a site with 47 pages be more authoritative on a subject while other sites include actual help content and products that further the keyword in question.
I think the backlinks to that site in question bug me the most, since most are from an SEO site with a 30 DA, but is still enough to rank for the keyword we are trying for in a huge jump ahead of us. Some of this doesn't seem to follow rhyme or reason.
Seems less is more.

Hi Gaston
I was looking for a long term and short term point of view, not a quick magic solution because I know there are no quick fixes when it comes to correct and proper SEO.
No offence taken, quite the opposite actually - only respect and gratitude for your taking the time to reply and share your thoughts which I fully appreciate.
Thanks for the tips much appreciated.
-
I've never intentes to offend you. Sorry if that case.
I understood that you wanted the magic solution to increase authority and better serps just quickly. That will never be the case.
On the other hand, the ultimate tip is to increase the ctr in serps, that makes you more authoritative to Google. There is a blog post at moz stating that.
Sorry again if it misunderstood my intentions.

Thanks Gaston
I'm not an absolute beginner and I do understand the concept of seo. I asked for suggestions in terms of current trends to see what the current mindset is amongst the Moz community as I am fairly new to the Moz community here. SEO comprises many facets and angles and like I already said, I understand that SEO is for the long term and results overall are established over time.
Thanks for your input respectfully.

Hi,
It's really difficult to do seo actions and collect results in short term. I think you are not understanding the concept of seo, create value, linkbuilding and on page optimization.I highly recommend you to take a deep read to the beginner's guide at moz.

Hope it helps.

Hi and thanks for your message.
I understand collectively is where it is at and good effective seo is continuous - plus I don't doubt that your suggestions will bring results over a longer sustained period of time. Trust and authority with strong unique content inside regular posting will help; but a more specific short term projection and a long term strategy is what I am trying to put together.
Thanks a lot.

Hello mate.Unfortunately the results are long term. It's slow requires patience. I will enumerate most important to least improve the page range and the range domain.
-Very important, increasingly valued, create good content. Relevant content and authority, without copying.
-Create A strategy of link building. There are many ways to get links. Better to have fewer links from pages with high DA many links from pages with low DA.
-Strategy Content marketing for your product arrives to the greatest number of people. social networks, Facebook, google plus.
-Try to create a good internal link structure. No more than 100 internal links per page.
-Loading speed of the web if it is too slow.

Should I noindex shop page and blog page for SEO?
I have about 15 products in my store. Should I noindex shop and blog page for SEO? The reason I ask this question is because I see someone suggesting noindex archives pages. And the shop page is product archive and blog page is archive too, so should I choose index or noindex? Thanks!

Diminishing Returns for Links to an Unrelated Page
Suppose I have a new website about cars and I had created a page about something completely not-related - like cupcakes. However, I found that it was very easy to get high quality sites to link to the cupcakes page where as it was very difficult to get people to link to the homepage about cars. If my goal is to increase the SEO for the homepage (which again is related to cars), is there a point where additional high quality links to my cupcakes page is not useful for it anymore? What if I created another page - about frosted cupcakes - which was also easy to get high quality links to?

SEO for Career sites and sup-pages
For main job categories: We manage several career pages for several clients but the competition for the main keywords (even several long tail) is from big names like Indeed and similar job boards?

What would you recommend? For job posts: Since the job posts that our clients post are short lived (80% live less than a month) would it still be incorrect to purchase backlinks? or is it always a big no Thanks for your help. And if a similar question has been asked I would appreciate if you could point me to it. I could not find one.0 -
Thin Content Pages: Adding more content really help?
Hello all, So I have a website that was hit hard by Panda back in 2012 November, and ever since the traffic continues to die week by week. The site doesnt have any major moz errors (aside from too many on page links). The site has about 2,700 articles and the text to html ratio is about 14.38%, so clearly we need more text in our articles and we need to relax a little on the number of pictures/links we add. We have increased the text to html ratio for all of our new articles that we put out, but I was wondering how beneficial it is to go back and add more text content to the 2,700 old articles that we have just sitting. Would this really be worth the time and investment? Could this help the drastic decline in traffic and maybe even help it grow?

Blog on 2 domains (.org/.com), Canonical to Solve?
I have a client that has moved a large majority of content to their .org domain, including the blog. This is causing some issues for the .com domain. I want to retain the blog on the .org and have it's content also show on the .com. I would place the canonical tag on the .com Is this possible? Is this recommended?

Article pages not ranking as well as they should
Hello, Our articles here are not ranking as strongly as they should. Could you take a look and tell me why? When I search for the exact article title we do not come up. We used to. Note our sitewide footer links to some articles in case that's the problem, but even articles not in the footer links aren't performing.

Owning multiple domains across similar fields
We have a printing website specializing in a single field but had added other products to it along the way, we are looking at adding a second site (redesigned from the ground up) that with cover everything (so will inevitably cover some of the same keywords) is this ok. We are considering some of the other things such as putting both sites on different IP's and also wondered about the registration details (would it be ok to have them under the same company?). Just to make it clear they will not be used for cross link or any other such things so just wanting to know if they could end up on page one for some of the same keywords and Google would be ok with this. Thank you for your time.

Sudden Ranking Drop from 1st Page
My client's Website http://countryfeelingholidays.com is experiencing a huge drop of its rankings since Aug 1st. It was at 2nd on 1st page on google.lk for the keyword Holidays Sri Lanka . But When I checked it last it has gone to 20th page. I really cannot find a reason for this drop . Only thing that comes to mind is that we put a comment on a blog but finally it appeared on all pages because of top commentator plugin . huge rise in backlinks in oneday . from next day we lost its ranking on google.lk but on google.com it is still at the same position where it used to be . What would be the reason for this ? Could it be a penelty ? What should we do now to get its ranking back ?
