Confusion on keyword cannibalization ?
-
Hi
I know that targeting more than one keyword per page in a website leads to keyword cannibalization.
But for example, if I am into a "CRM" business, I write blogs on CRM every day with various topics like:
1. How can a CRM help your small business?
2. Steps to follow in buying a CRM.
3. How to does CRM help in your customer relationship.
It means that I am concentrating the keyword "CRM" in multiple blogs.
What should I do in this case?
Thanks in advance.

You're welcome, have an awesome day!

Thanks a lot Logan....I am absolutely clear with my doubt.
Thanks again.

Those blogs posts are going to be your long-tail keywords, so the more specific you get with the keywords that you target, the better. Put yourself in the mindset of someone who would benefit from that content, then try to think about what you would search for to get to that content. For example, for your post "Steps to follow in buying a CRM", some qualified queries might be "things to consider when choosing a CRM", "how to choose a CRM", "what do I need to know before buying a CRM".

Hi Logan,
Thanks a lot for your response. I just have a small doubt regarding this.
If I am using a yoast plugin for my wordpress blog, which 3 different keywords should I use as the "focused keyword" for all the above mentioned topics?
Thanks

Hi,
Your statement "I know that targeting more than one keyword per page in a website leads to keyword cannibalization" is close, but not quite true. Keyword cannibalization happen you talk about the same topic or keyword set across multiple pages, search engines aren't sure which to rank higher, so they usually opt for none of them.
Content should be centered around topics these days, not keywords. Based on the sample blog topics you shared, it seems like you're doing that quite well. You're still talking about CRMs but in different ways, so I think your strategy is good.

Unsolved How to add geo keyword without it looking keyword stuffed

Is there a technique that you use for this? I was thinking something like internal links to the City pages of have but then the Anchor text landing page would be a cite page and not a mobile home inspection page.

Keyword Cannibalization vs. Optimizing Site
I am in the process of optimizing our website and I am having a hard time reconciling two best practices I have found on Moz. 1. You should avoid having multiple pages focus on the same keyword because you will lose some control of which result will show. 2. You should identify your core keywords and weave these keywords multiple times (naturally) throughout your site. I have spent months identifying our top 7 keywords and am working through the site now. The first piece of advice keeps giving me pause. Can anyone weigh in with other considerations or advice on how I can reconcile these two strategies. Thank you

Should URL contain primary keyword or primary + extended keyword?
Hi All, This is a query regarding what keyword should be placed in URL. Below is the scenario. I have marketplace website where I can service providers with users. I have a page with a list of Dance providers and want to rank it for Dance Classes, Dance Coaching Classes keywords. Since these keywords represent same business purpose for us, should I keep the URL as www.abc.com/dance-classes or www.abc.com/dance-coaching-classes? What is SEO best practice in this scenario? Kindly suggest.

Incorporating a difficult keyword in Headline
Hi ! I need to incorporate a password in a H1 Headline that is "Photography Freiburg" As "The best Photography Freiburg" would sound strange and would be grammatically incorrect I would write "The best Photography in Freiburg". Is this much worse concerning SEO? Or will Google still put a high correlation to the Searchterm "Photography Freiburg" ? Thanks!

Multi Keyword URL Ranking at Number 1
Here is part of a URL that takes the local number 1 spot for "implant dentist glasgow" [website] /implant-dentistry-glasgow-scotland/implant-dentistry-glasgow-scotland.html The first /implant-dentistry-glasgow-scotland/ directory or page is protected and presumably just exists for ranking reasons. I am tempted to copy that URL on a client's implant page to compete for the keyword (I believe I have better content). Given that it works well for the other site, can you think of any reason that would that be a bad idea? Thanks very much.

Title Tag: Phrases vs. Keywords Separated by "|"
Hello, One of my client's old sites has all category titles of the form (for example) running shoes | running shoe | walking shoes | walking shoe including many that perform well with over 60 characters. I'm in the process of rewriting the titles into something like Running and Walking Shoes, A quality shoe at OurShoes.com The reason I'm rewriting them is for future google penalties, and to look better to possible guest post opportunities. Also to look better in the SERPS But the old style is performing very well. What are the real pros and cons of each? Thanks.

How to fix keyword self-cannibalization?
page in question: www.bison-builders.com/lots-plans/bison-meadows-lots-1-6/ This page is the landing page for 6 custom home lots, available via Bison Builders. I fixed the overstuffing of 'Bison Meadows', it was on all image title, alt, etc. Should be right around 15. We are using 'Bison Meadows' as a keyword, because that's the name of the custom community. I don't want to change the names of the links, and I don't want to change the name of the keyword. How do I fix this self-cannibalization? FYI, I was thinking of directing all canonical URLs for individual pages to this page, but will wait til I know how to fix this first... Thank you! Avoid Keyword Self-Cannibalization Easy fix <dl> <dt>Cannibalizing link</dt> <dd>"Bison Meadows Lot 1", "Bison Meadows Lot 2", "Bison Meadows Lot 3", "Bison Meadows Lot 4", "Bison Meadows Lot 5", and "Bison Meadows Lot 6"</dd> <dt>Explanation</dt> <dd>It's a best practice in SEO to target each keyword with a single page on your site (sometimes two if you've already achieved high rankings and are seeking a second, indented listing). To prevent engines from potentially seeing a signal that this page is not the intended ranking target and creating additional competition for your page, we suggest staying away from linking internally to another page with the target keyword(s) as the exact anchor text. Dealing with a category page that is optimised & ranks for same keyword as homepage
Hi, I'm working with a very niche website where only one product is sold. This means there is a small keyword set (just variations of same keyword) that we are optimising for. Currently the homepage www.example.com ranks in position 2 for target term - "sample". But there is also a required deeper page www.example.com/sample which has lots and lots of internal links targeted to "sample" pointing to it. This page ranks position 8. Effectively this is optimising the deeper page for the same keyword as for the home page through internal anchir text. This deeper page must exist as it has much more detailed information about the product. We want the homepage to rank highest and I'm trying to figure out if we are confusing Google and splitting authority between 2 pages. Best result for us would be to have homepage in position 1 and the deeper page can disappear (total visits would increase). So the question is, is there a solution to do this? My initial thought was use canonical tag on the www.example.com/sample page specifiying www.example.com. Can we do this? Its not duplicate content. Other option I considered is to nofollow links to the deeper page. Again not sure if this will have positive or negative impact. My fear is by removing 40 odd internal links with "sample" anchor text will reduce relevancy of the domain as a whole for the "sample" keyword. Any help much appreciated! Thanks
