How to deal with Pages not present anymore in the site
-
Hi,
we need to cut out from the catalog some destinations for our tour operator, so basically we need to deal with destination pages and tour pages not present anymore on the site.
What do you think is the best approach to deal with this pages to not loose ranking?
Do you think is a good approach to redirect with 301's these pages to the home page or to the general catalog page or do you suggest another approach?
tx for your help!

Tx Tim for the answer, it make sense.
I explain you in more details my site structure:
site.com/destinations - hub for all the destinations
site.com/destinations/tanzania - single destination page
site.com/tours/tanzania-tour-1 - single tour page
site.com/travel-category/cultural-tours - a second way tour are organized, for travel category.
So lets say i dont want to sell anymore the destination Tanzania and all his related tours. In the case i want to keep the ranking for the destination and tours i would need to 301 redirect the destination Tanzania to the more general page site.com/destinations and the site.com/tours/tanzania-tour-1 page to site.com/travel-category/cultural-tours since this is a cultural tour.
Does this make sense?

I wouldn't divert them to the homepage, the content has to be relevant. As Tim says keep them or redirect/create a page that does have relevant content.

completely agreed with Tim.

Hi there, I think this is a mixed question about meeting the needs of SEO and your customers. You could naturally allow some pages to 404 if you no longer wish to rank for a specific location or as an alternative you could as mentioned above 301 certain pages to a new page of a similar or relevant topic/destination.
Managing a users experience and not having a 404 is probably best, maybe a specialised landing page which keeps the destination is of use... you could use the page to still rank for this destination, but maybe suggest alternatives within the vicinity, this might be useful for hotels on a local level and still lead to conversions. For larger scale alternatives say at a country level this may be more difficult as the user is probably already set to visit a specific destination, as such a 301 to a higher level category maybe more appropriate unless you want to clarify to the user that this location is no longer available.
If you still wish to rank for these old pages/destinations, it is probably best to keep them in place or redirect to a similar page.
Hope that is ok.

Page Speed or Site Speed which one does Google considered a ranking signal
I've read many threads online which proves that website speed is a ranking factor. There's a friend whose website scores 44 (slow metric score) on Google Pagespeed Insights. Despite that his website is slow, he outranks me on Google search results. It confuses me that I optimized my website for speed, but my competitor's slow site outperforms me. On Six9ja.com, I did amazing work by getting my target score which is 100 (fast metric score) on Google Pagespeed Insights. Coming to my Google search console tool, they have shown that some of my pages have average scores, while some have slow scores. Google search console tool proves me wrong that none of my pages are fast. Then where did the fast metrics went? Could it be because I added three Adsense Javascript code to all my blog posts? If so, that means that Adsense code is slowing website speed performance despite having an async tag. I tested my blog post speed and I understand that my page speed reduced by 48 due to the 3 Adsense javascript codes added to it. I got 62 (Average metric score). Now, my site speed is=100, then my page speed=62 Does this mean that Google considers page speed rather than site speed as a ranking factor? Best Topography for eCommerce Site Product Pages (flat nav/off the root OR in products subfolder) ?
Hi Im SEO'ing a Shopify site (new/not yet live) at the moment and all the products are in a 'Products' subfolder along the lines of: domain.com/products/blue-widgets/ etc I understand that many ecommerce SEO's these days go 'Flat Navigation' with all products 'off the root' rather than in a sub folder. Then they communicate product & categories/departmental relationships via breadcrumbs & other internal linking etc In the case of a platform like Shopfy is this a good idea or is it best to leave 'as is' and the 'Products' subfolder is a perfectly good place for the product pages ? All Best Dan

Our site is a home to home moving listing portal. Consumers who wants to move his home fills a form so that moving companies can cote prices. We were generating listing page URL’s by using the title submitted by customer. Unfortunately we have understood by now that many customers have entered exactly same title for their listings which has caused us having hundreds of similar page title. We have corrected all the pages which had similar meta tag and duplicate page title tags. We have also inserted controls to our software to prevent generating duplicate page title tags or meta tags. But also the page content quality not very good because page content added by customer.(example: http://www.enakliyat.com.tr/detaylar/evden-eve--6001) What should I do. Please help me.

Site Navigation leads to "Too Many On-Page Links" warning
I run an ecommerce site with close to 2000 products. Nearly every page in the catalog has a too many on-page links error because of the navigation sidebar, which has several flyout layers of nested links. What can/should I do about this? Will it affect my rankings at all? Thanks

How much of an issue is it if a site is somehow connected to a site that was penalized by Google?
I am working with someone that is about to launch a new site, and one of the sites was affected by the Panda update. Does it matter if the two sites are connected? Share the same hosting provider and same Google Webmaster's account?
