When we find our content on other sites we choose one of a few routes to take.
If the infringing content is on the site of a reputable business, it usually appears there as a result of an employee who does not realize that taking the content of others is an action that can result in civil or criminal action, or it is a result of a dirtbag SEO or marketing service who steals content instead of writing their own. In these cases we write to an officer of the reputable business and inform them of the problem. They usually thank us for letting them know, take the content down right away and educate the employee or fire the SEO or marketer who did this.
More often the infringer is simply a spammer. In those cases we use the DMCA dashboard of our Google Search Console account to file a complaint with Google. Google usually acts within 48 hours, often the same day. If the infringer is using Adsense, we then click the "Ad Choices" button on one of their ads, and follow the route to complain about copyright infringement. When Adsense receives these complaints they often turn off all ads on the infringing page, and if lots of complaints are filed about the website, the turn off all of the ads to that site or close the adsense account. Hitting spammers in the wallet or putting fear into them that their adsense account might be turned off is effective and getting the infringer to say away from your sites.
Before you start filing DMCAs or complaining to reputable businesses, it is important to understand fair use and understand the limits of your copyright rights. A consultation with an intellectual property attorney can help you understand this. They can also craft complaint letters that you can send, offer to send them for you, and take over if you send an informal complaint and the company does not comply. I've found that copyright attorneys cost less than I feared and are worth more than I pay them.

Hi Varun
This could well cause problems for you especially if they did it quickly. Usually, if there is a reasonable gap, say one month then Google will assign authority to the site who published the content first. The problem comes when the second site is a large one with a higher Domain Authority - it could be that their published copy ranks higher than yours.
Whatever it is simply bad to have two articles with duplicate content so my best advice is to ask Google to take the copied version down.
This is quite a simple process, all you have to do is to tell Google here:
https://support.google.com/legal/answer/3110420?hl=en-GB
Scroll to the bottom: Submit A Legal request and follow the link.
Then choose: Web Search
Then choose: I have a legal issue that is not mentioned above (Bottom one) Then select: I have found content that may violate my copyright Then fill in all of the details and wait for them to come back to you.
You could then send them a legal letter telling them to remove it - Google will remove the duplicated content from the web.
I hope that help
Regards Nigel

Is my content being fully read by Google?
Hi mozzers, I wanted to ask you a quick question regarding Google's crawlability of webpages. We just launched a series of content pieces but I believe there's an issue.

Based on what I am seeing when I inspect the URL it looks like Google is only able to see a few titles and internal links. For instance, when I inspect one of the URLs on GSC this is the screenshot I am seeing: image.pngWhen I perform the "cache:" I barely see any content**:** image.pngVS one of our blog post image.png Would you agree with me there's a problem here? Is this related to the heavy use of JS? If so somehow I wasn't able to detect this on any of the crawling tools? Thanks!0 -
Deleting low quality content
Hi there. I have a question about deleting low quality content pages hopefully anyone could share your feedback on. We have a b2c ecom store and Product Pages are our target LDPs from search. We've built many information pages that are related to different products in the long past that are linked to related product pages. Problem is many of them lack so-called quality content in terms of volume and quality and they aren't helping. Especially since early this year, organic traffic started declining after having peaked in Feb. So I'm considering deleting those we and Moz consider low quality that are not receiving search traffic. Firstly, is that a good idea? Secondly, how should I go about it? Just delete them and put a redirect so that deleted pages will point to related pages or even homepage? Looking forward to any expert input.

How to Handle Annual Content - 2018-2019
Hello! I was wondering how other SEOs handles their annual content. We do well with ranking for our industry keywords with the year in the content. We have annual changes to publish and talk about each year. What do you do with the previous years content? Leave it, 301 redirect it or just revamp the same content so it updates to the current year?

Duplicate content on URL trailing slash
Hello, Some time ago, we accidentally made changes to our site which modified the way urls in links are generated. At once, trailing slashes were added to many urls (only in links). Links that used to send to
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | yacpro13
example.com/webpage.html Were now linking to
example.com/webpage.html/ Urls in the xml sitemap remained unchanged (no trailing slash). We started noticing duplicate content (because our site renders the same page with or without the trailing shash). We corrected the problematic php url function so that now, all links on the site link to a url without trailing slash. However, Google had time to index these pages. Is implementing 301 redirects required in this case?1 -
Partial duplicate content and canonical tags
Hi - I am rebuilding a consumer website, and each product page will contain a unique product image, and a sentence or two about the product (and we tend to use a lot of the same words in different ways across products). I'd like to have a tabbed area below the product info that talks about the overall product line, and this content would be duplicate across all the product pages (a "Why use our products" type of thing). I'd have this duplicate content also living on its own URL's so they can be found alone in the SERP's. Question is, do I need to add the canonical tag to this page, since there's partial duplicate content on the product pages? And if I did that, would my product pages go un-indexed?? I understand how to handle completely duplicated content, it's the partial duplicate that I'm having difficulty figuring out.

How to Best Establish Ownership when Content is Duplicated?
A client (Website A) has allowed one of their franchisees to use some of the content from their site on the franchisee site (Website B). This franchisee lifted the content word for word, so - my question is how to best establish that Website A is the original author? Since there is a business relationship between the two sites, I'm thinking of requiring Website B to add a rel=canonical tag to each page using the duplicated content and referencing the original URL on site A. Will that work, or is there a better solution? This content is primarily informational product content (not blog posts or articles), so I'm thinking rel=author may not be appropriate.

Duplicate blog content and NOINDEX
Suppose the "Home" page of your blog at www.example.com/domain/ displays your 10 most recent posts. Each post has its own permalink page (where you have comments/discussion, etc.). This obviously means that the last 10 posts show up as duplicates on your site. Is it good practice to use NOINDEX, FOLLOW on the blog root page (blog/) so that only one copy gets indexed? Thanks, Akira
