Enquiries stopped after site move
-
Hello, I really hope someone can help. We recently moved our website from a shared server with one host to a VPS with another. At the same time we decided it would be right to switch from the .co.uk to the .com and also purchase an SSL. Since the switch we have had zero enquiries (3 weeks ago) when we would normally average one a day. According to Google Analytics, I cannot see that traffic has been to adversely effected and rankings, though dropping very slightly have not dramatically fallen. We have tested the site rigirously and there are no issues with it we can see. I ensured at domain level that there was a 301 redirect on the .co.uk site as well. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this would be the case? And/or whether switching it all back to where it was with the .co.uk would be a foolish idea? Many thanks!

Always avoid knee-jerk reactions to these kinds of things. It's possible that rather than the new location being the issue, the method of migration was more of a problem instead. If that's the case then moving back wouldn't help anyway (as you'd have to go through the migration again, assumedly)!
I'm not saying that is or is not the case, just trying to highlight that you don't know what the problem is (and thus any hasty action is extremely unwise). You need to understand what an enquiry is or what it used to mean on your old site. Does that mean a phone call, an email, a contact form submission (maybe all of these things)? Was one of these things far and away the most popular method of contact? If so - which one was it? That gives you a place to start your detective work
It may be that your contact forms are still coded to send mail to an inbox on your old domain which can no longer receive the comms and thus no enquiries are being process. Maybe due to the change of domain, the event-tracking code needs to be adapted (this could be the case if you changed your UA property / number in GA when you moved)
If it's calls that are down, what call tracking solution are you using? There are loads. Usually they run a script on your site to swap out a phone number and thus attribute calls from visitors to your site who were ascertained via different channels (PPC, SEO, email, display, affiliates etc)
If you left that all in place, maybe you need to log in to the back-end of the call tracking system and update it there to listen for calls from a new domain! Maybe it's just something small and silly like that
Because you didn't give loads of detail I can't help huge amounts (unless you share more) - but I hope that, what I have written here will help you to track down the culprit of your problem. To me it sounds like a tracking issue, rather than a performance issue (but I could be wrong)
Always remember that the web has thousands of ways to trip you up if you aren't paying attention. Often developers will push for a 'logical', one size fits all solution. It's only afterwards that people realise, they needed an expert!

Site with both subfolders and subdomains
Hi everyone,
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | medi_
I'm working on a website that has a quite extensive subfolder structure for product and multilingual purposes.
domain.com/en
domain.com/it
domain.com/fr
domain.com/en/category
domain.com/it/category
domain.com/fr/category
domain.com/en/category/product
domain.com/it/category/product
domain.com/fr/category/product
domain.com/en/category/product/region
domain.com/it/category/product/region
domain.com/fr/category/product/region
and so on... We will soon be launching a completely different service, which would make the subfolder structure become even more complex. As John Mueller recently stated that Subdomains and Subfolders are treated the same by Google, I am now considering building that new service under subdomains for product reason, and for the sake of clarity. 1- Would my subdomains inherit the authority of my main domain?
2- Do I have to keep the language folders with the subdomain structure?
e.g.:
new-service.domain.com/en
nouveau-service.domain.com/fr
nuovo-servizio.domain.com/it OR
new-service.domain.com
nouveau-service.domain.com
nuovo-servizio.domain.com Looking forward to reading you!0 -
How to stop some continuous attacks on our website
Hi Fellow SEO Experts
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | leadstar0007
We would like to ask for your help in STOPPING some continuous attacks on our website.
It seems that we are constantly needing to Disavow these URL’S like http://www.econsultmgmt.com.my and http://www.unicontmt.com.br as they keep redirecting to our Sitemap. Is there any tool or any clever way to stop these constant and unwanted links to our sitemap please?
We have tried on MULTIPLE occasions to contact them and ask them to remove the content that has the hyperlinks back to our sitemap but without success ☹
Any assistance from our global colleagues would be greatly appreciated. Thanks & Regards, Manish0 -

SEO Concerns From Moving Mobile M Dot site to Responsive Version?
I currently have my mobile site set up as a m dot site. I have designed a new responsive/adaptive version of my desktop site I would like to start using. When I search from google on mobile, my website is indexed as the m dot site. When I make the switch, this will no longer be the case as I will only have one url for both mobile and desktop. The m dot url's will no longer work. Are there any SEO consequences from making this shift?

Will an inbound follow link on a site be devalued by an inbound affiliate link on the same site?
Hey guys, quick question I didn't find an answer to online. Scenario: 1. Site A links to Site B. It's a natural, regular, follow-link 2. Site A joins Site B's affiliate program, and adds an affiliate link Question: Does the first, regular follow link get devalued by the second affiliate link? Cheers!

Site wide links removal
A website of mine has about 4,000 backlinks of which 2,500 of them are coming from one website to the homepage and about 6 internal pages. These have been built up over about 5 years, mainly via article posts. The site was recently hit via penguin 2.0 but has only had natural links built so i'm wondering if the sitewide links are in fact the issue? The website linking to mine is an authority source within its niche but the concern is the amount of backlinks coming from this one site and if it may now be seen as having a negative impact. When ive reviewed the links from this one site via a backlink removal tool about 80% seem fine and suggestions are to remove about 20% of the backlinks. Would you keep all the sitewide backlinks or remove them?

Pagination for Ecommerce Site - How do I fix this?
Hi Everyone... I'm having issues on how I should fix the pagination on my ecommerce site http://www.moondoggieinc.com Right now I have rel="canonical" putting them all back to the main page like on: http://www.moondoggieinc.com/dog-harness.php but there are also some shop all categories like: http://www.moondoggieinc.com/products.php?cat=all+dog+harnesses But I wish I could get it so that the content only showed on the first page of them all and then just the products showed in the pagination after that. I have no clue how to make this happen successfully. I know this is a big problem with the structure to the site, creating some duplicate content and such, and I was wondering how I can even begin to go ahead and start tackling this. My background is as a designer so I'm just learning both seo, and anyhting past html / css, so I could really use any help you guys can offer. THANK YOU! KristyO

Has my site been penalized?
Our site was listed on the first page for the phrase Active SEO on Google.co.uk. We suddenly find ourselves on page 4 overnight and we're not sure what's going on. We have not undertaken an Black hat techniques however the site is fairly new. Anyone have any ideas as to what is going on?
