Multiple domains, which does Google like better?
-
From a business perspective It seems a better idea to have one site and multiple domains pointing to that one site.
Is there any benefit as far as ranking well in Google to having a site set up on each domain with links to the main site?
Does you have any success from a business point of view in using this strategy?
P.S. This is my 4th question in Beta testing, just want to make sure I'm not taking advantage of your generosity and if it is fine to keep asking questions here.

Forgot to answer your beta question limit. No limit dude! Keep 'em coming. Yo'll know when it's too many when you run out of people to answer them

Hey Daniel:
Is there a Google benefit by having links from microsites come in to the main site? Here are some of the drawbacks to the approach.
#1) I think that Google is really good at finding groups of related nepotistic sites. So while they won't penalize you for the links, they will dilute the amount of juice they pass. Which kinda negates the purpose of setting it up in the first place, eh?
#2 The more important (IMHO) reason to avoid this scenario is that when you create multiple sites, you have to build authority for each of them to have anything to pass along in a link. It's much easier to concentrate your efforts on getting linksfor a single site than for multiple sites.

Hi Daniel,
This is actually a two part question, so here's the two part answer.
Linking to a Target Domain
Google's core algorthim is based on linking. The quantity and authority of links are presented in the form of PageRank, which isn't displayed by Google in any useful format nowadays. Having quality links from quality 3rd party domains add credibility and ultimately ranking for the target domain. Earning links to a target domain to achieve maximum ranking is ONE strategy and can produce great results by itself.
Creating Additional Micro-sites for SERPS Saturation
By creating additional domains simply to achieve higher ranking for a target domain divides your marketing efforts and can add confusion to your link building and PR teams. However, creating themed experiences via micro-sites and micro-blogging platforms as a way to increase search engine saturation while also boosting link juice, can be a powerful strategy (especially for an online reputation campaign). Take websitegrader.com for example. It's a micro-site built on its own domain that drives massive links from people who enjoy the tool. Yet, at the end of the day it's lead generation tool and could be a great link opportunity had the Hubspot gurus considered adding a keyword-rich link from their grader properties.
So I suppose the best answer might be to do both:
- Build a powerful target website with the most influential links to earn top placement in the SERPS
- Build one or more additional domains with a specific, non-salesy, theme in mind to earn saturation and organic links.
Just don't forget to add the link from the micro-site at the end of the day, if that's one of the strategies you decide to employ.

Our domain is ranking quite ok on google.ru, but not at all on Yandex. What could be the main differentiator here?
Hi, The internet let me down on this one. What's the issue? We are ranking quite ok on the most important keywords for our business with our .ru TLD on Google.ru. On Yandex however we don't seem to rank at all. What could be the main differentiating factor here? Could the fact that our servers are in th US play a role? Thank you for your time. Jacob

New Domain Vs. Existing Domain
Hello, A potential client of mine has been blacklisted because of bad SEO process basically they have over 1,500 toxic links on their site. They have penalised to such an extent that they are now on page 12 for most of their keywords and not ranking well on brand terms either. They are keen to on to a new domain entirely and ditch their current domain when we design their new site. I wanted to get people's opinion on whether this is the best course of action or should we try to salvage the current domain? Many thanks, Mat

How do you raise domain authority?
Hey guys, hoping you can help me out here. I've been tasked with raising several sites' domain authority to a level of 30. Right now, many of them are hovering around 20. Three weeks into this project and our numbers have dropped 1-2 points on average but I don't think our efforts would reflect that this quickly. From what I've read online, a good strategy is guest posting on relevant sites and collecting links from sites with higher DAs. I've also read at least one Moz article about this potentially being ineffective. I've read some of the related posts but they seem mostly dated and the answers didn't seem to help me. Hoping someone with some experience with this can help me out, I appreciate it.

Google+ Pages on Google SERP
Do you think that a Google+ Page (not profile) could appear on the Google SERP as a Rich Snippet Author? Thanks

I currently have a client that has multiple domains for multiple brands that share the same IP Address. Will link juice be passed along to the different sites when they link to one another or will it simply be considered internal linking?
I have 7 brands that are owned by the same company, each with their own domain. The brands work together to form products that are then sold to the consumer although there is not a e-commerce aspect to any of the sites. I am looking to create a modified link wheel between the sites, but didn't know if my efforts would pay off due to the same IP Address for all the sites. Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

Should we move to a new domain??
Working with a company that is considering moving to a new domain and wanted some advice. They have 2 domains (they own both) and one is a shorter version of the other. The current domain is over 10 years old and has a domain authority score of 80. It is 9 characters long. The new domain (which they also own) has a DA score of 43 and is only 3 characters long. The debate is as much about branding as anything but there is a concern on how it will affect search. I was hoping for so advice and any pitfalls others may have experienced. Thanks!!

How Many Results Does Google Show From The Same Domain?
Hi, From a few years ago I know 'double listings' were considered prime real estate. These days I can see triple listing, google places, PDFs all from the same domain. Im confused as the what the standard is now. I have been asked for some reverse SEOing to push down some bad press (keyword is the brand name) and am curious to know whether I still can get some high results by making a sub domain, optmising some more internal pages etc. Thanks.
