Nofollow on these internal links?
-
On an x-cart ecommerce website we have, seomoz has picked up a lot of duplicate content, based on URLs that are different, but are essentially the same page.
These come from Fitlers, that allow a page to show only certain colours and styles, reordering page by price etc, and also the page 2, page 3 etc of a category:
All the below are '4ft-bedding.html'
http://www.textilesdirect.co.uk/store/4ft-Bedding.html?filter=1&value=Pink
http://www.textilesdirect.co.uk/store/4ft-Bedding.html?page=2
http://www.textilesdirect.co.uk/store/4ft-Bedding.html?sort=price&view_all=Y
I've now changed all these internal links to rel="nofollow" on the a tag.
Is that the correct and best way to sort?
I might be mistaken on when I did this update and when the last report was ran, but on the SEOmoz crawling report, it still has the above as problem pages.
thanks!

Well you could limit things with robots.txt instead, but that's a bit of a blanket block. It would probably be better than nofollow though.
Using noindex and nofollow in conjunction would also likely be better than just nofollow by itself. It's a long way from the elegance and usefulness of rel="canonical" but it is easier.

ah, I see... I'd forgotten about the canonical, I've never used before.
That could be difficult to arrange, as all categories are dynamic to what the store owner decides they're selling, and also it's one html/php template used across every category page.
Would it involve lots of hard coded ifs to accomodate the different categories, and then revise later down the road if/when the products have changed?
There is a module that can be bought for Xcart called CDSEO that goes some way to sorting this I believe. Maybe I need to cough up for that...

Your better off using rel="canonical" to solve the problem if you can:

It's potentially more difficult to arrange than the nofollows but it was put in place to resolve exactly this sort of problem.

Removing navigation menu items/links on homepage
We are redesigning our website after a long stint with an SEO firm who also handled our design/dev. We want to clean up the links on our homepage but don't want to screw up our IA or SEO. We want to delete some navbar menu items and a whole bunch on random links to our evergreen content below the fold. Would we need to reposition those navbar items/content links to our footer or somewhere else on the homepage to maintain our internal linking structure? It would be great if you could take a look at our site and give us any suggestions or advice on the best way to go about this. Thanks!

Are there to many internal links here?
This is our main Motorcycle Parts page. In my opinion there are to many links on this page. They have put links to all the top brands after products. Do you think having all these links could be hurting our rankings/ ability for google to crawl the site efficiently? The links are good for navigation, I just think there are way to many there like over 200. Here is the page you can see what i am talking about http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/s/49/61/Motorcycle-Parts

Blocking Google seeing outbound links?
Apart from rewriting the outbound url to look like a folder 'abc.co.uk/out/link1' and blocking the folder 'out' in the robots.txt file, along with also nofollowing the links as well, is there anything else you can do?

Do anchor links pointing to bottom/top of page count as link?
As the title says: Do anchor links pointing to bottom/top of page count as link? This page: http://www.betxpert.com/forum/bookmakere/vis/ladbrokes-kommentar I has over 300 links, but I don't see that many links. Is it the "#15" and the top/bottom of page anchors that count? Is this harmful in terms of link juice? -Rasmus

Change in link structure due to Joomla
Hi, I have been using Joomla 1.5 until recently and the link structure would be something like - http://www.guru99.com/software-testing.html Now with Joomla 1.7 , ".html " automatically stripped and the URL become "http://www.guru99.com/software-testing" My site is due upgrade but ".html" part is a concern. Once I upgrade , Can I re-direct all ".hmtl" url like http://www.guru99.com/software-testing.html to non ".html" url like "http://www.guru99.com/software-testing" Will this ensure all the link juice is passed ? I have more than 350 URL in my site ... Please guide ... Cheers Krishna PS = the link http://www.guru99.com/software-testing will not work since the site is yet to be upgraded

Home page ranking dropped below internal pages
The index page for a site I manage has dropped significantly - internal pages rank above it. It's a new site, 2 months old but was ranking at 1st. Any suggestions as to how I can debug this?
