Alt Image Tags
-
Hi,
Do you think an alt image tag on an image as a link is going to impart the same juice or targeting as a link with a text anchor?
So, for example, if one made a clickable image link with the alt image tag of "bowling balls" would that do as much for you as the text "bowling balls" as the anchor link?
Thanks! Best...Michael

Yeh, at least 12 SEO years, if not 20, the way stuff changes.
I would imagine it hasn't changed a lot though, because SEOmoz still says that alt tags appear to carry a surprising amount of weight.

Hi Adam,
Thanks for the response. Yes, I saw that posting. It's a couple of years old at this point, which has got to be like 12 SEO years. I guess you feel nothing has changed on that subject?
Thanks, agian! Best...MJ

Does an external link to an image file on my site help my SEO?
I found a few websites that are displaying images from my site. Curiously, they have also linked these images to the source image file on my website. I found these because Moz showed these sites in my list of backlinks. I assume that means it impacts my Domain Authority. But does this actually help me in search engines since it's not linking to a page on my site?

Embedding an image from another site
I have developed some micro-sites for a client. The micro-sites are on their own root domain and are only associated, through links, with the client's main site. The client just added an infographic to their site and I want to embed it on the micro-sites. If I am going to embed the image on all the micro-sites that were developed do I need to use a rel canonical tag so it is not seen as duplicate content?

Title tag question
Hi, Lets say you have these 2 title tags. 1. red paint, blue paint, green paint - CompanyName 2. red paint - CompanyName Does the longer title tag dilute the term 'red paint' when it comes to ranking? Basically out of the 2 which title tag would show the best results when trying to rank for the term 'red paint'. Cheers

Same Page, Multiple URLS- Canonical tag? Redirect?
I just read this article about how google views multiple versions of the same page as different pages of duplicate content. My website, www.telikin.com currently has many versions of the home page. There is: www.telikin.com
Link Building | | Telikin
www.telikin.com/index
www.telikin.com/index.php
www.telikin.com/index.php/ All of these seem to be their own URLS, If i use the open site explorer tool to search for links pointing to these URLS, the www.telikin.com domain shows about 700 links, and the www.telikin.com/index.php shows about 63 links. My questions: Is my SEO suffering as a result of having these different pages? Does google realize that links pointing to www.telikin.com/index.php should count towards the seo of the www.telikin.com page? If this is hurting my company's website, how do I solve this problem? I am not versed as a webmaster, so I don't understand what the best course of action would be. Should I request that our webmaster somehow redirects all traffic from the other URLS to the main www.telikin.com URL? Should I be using canonical tags on all important pages? If i do, for example, use a canonical tag on the www.telikin.com page, will Google then know to send all link juice from the www.telikin.com/index.php page to the www.telikin.com page? We also have a Joomla blog that seems to duplicate pages many times over, but that is a problem that I will have to address another time. Any comments/suggestions are more than welcome. Seo using images
I have a client that creates a lot of custom jewelry and takes pictures of it. They've been reluctant to part with it for fear of competitors stealing their designs, but I was able to finally wrastle them into submission and get them to release 30+ original images. I had some ideas about it, but I was wondering if you guys could help me brainstorm doing some linkbuilding using these images. 1. tag them all on pinterest 2. create a slideshow using them and upload to slidesharing sites 3. create a flickr account and upload all the images 4. search for other image/slideshare gallery sites and upload to them. (I welcome any suggestions regarding this). Any other suggestions for submissions? I was also thinking of creating some written content around each image. What type of web properties would be best for for example a FAQ about custom made emerald rings, or other types of jewelry.

IPTC information in JPEG images
I distribute a product in the US and I do my own product shoots. Some distributors in other countries use my images. I don't mind them using my images, but I would like for them to include all the IPTC data such as copyright and my URL. Is there any SEO benefit to me if these images on other sites include my URL, etc. Best,

Image only badges giving link juice!?!?
I see some chatter about badges, but no clear definition. A collegue of mine instituted badges on clients website, but these badges are only an image w/ hyperlink; no textual content. He is confident that this has worked successfully before as a link building strategy, which blew my mind. I thought we needed some text, and obviously optimizes anchor text for biggest benefit. Are these simple badges helpful, or do we need some html in there!? He also routes them through bit.ly to track impressions and clicks.. does that have any effect as well? Thanks!

Do image links with no alt tags pass link value?
"... an image link with no alt tag is useless to search engines..." according to a Nov 2007 seomoz blog post. Is this still the case in 2011? I ask because I'm about to obtain a banner link on a high-traffic site (chiefly for the clickthrough value) but I notice the site uses neither "title" nor "alt" tags.
