Yelp.com - How do they do this?
-
Yelp.com seems to dominate a lot of search results for a lot of reasons.
Specifically, I've noticed that their internal search results URL appears in Google for tons of results like "hem jeans new york". They dominate TONS of terms like this and it's always an internal search result page for yelp that appears in #1 Google.
From what I can tell, yelp.com is taking various keyword permutations from their internal search, combined with local city/zip info and creating such landing pages.
Here is a URL result for "hem jeans new york"
http://www.yelp.com/search?find_desc=Hem+Jeans&find_loc=New+York%2C+NY
My question is this...What are the specific causes of their success on this type of local / long-tail / specific keyword strategy? Is it...
1. Using dynamic sitemaps to feed Google thousands of URLs with various keyword permutations attached.?
2. Their domain reputation, inbound links, etc. etc.
3. Both? Something else?
Thanks for your feedback.

yes, part of it could be dynamic sitemaps, however consider these factors:
1. According to their Moz ranking, Yelp has a Domain Authority of 93/100 - that's a lot of domain authority.
2. They've got over 16 million pages indexed at Google.
3. Of these, about 5 million are search results
4. Google claims to be able to explore forms - their bots are claimed to be able to simulate human behavior in form usage.
5. With about ten million pages indexed that are not yelp search results pages, that's an awful lot of raw data for Google's bots to experiment with in trying out that search for.

How to consolidating my domains to the .com
Hey Mozers, Just watched Rands white board friday about consolidating domains https://moz.com/blog/rebrand-or-redirect-my-site-consolidate-multiple-sites-whiteboard-friday I would like to consider looking at consolidating my cctld's zenory.co.nz and zenory.com.au over to zenory.com I have been told by our previous seo guy to go international eg. target USA, NZ and Australia. Consolidate into 1 website (your .com), and separate your website into different subfolders for each target country zenory.com/us/, zenory.com/au/, zenory.com/nz/. If I'm not really writing country specific content for the blog I could just keep 1 blog at zenory.com/blog/ Can anyone recommend a guide around the technical side of how to apply these changes without causing issues? Our website is custom built with wordpress being the blog. Any advice will be much appreciated Cheers

My website is coming up under a proxy server "HideMyAss.com." How do I stop this from happening?
We've noticed that when we search our web copy in Google the first result is under a proxy server "HideMyAss.com," and our actual website is no where in sight. We've called Google and they really didn't have an answer for us (well the 2-3 people) we spoke with. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Moving from www.domain.net to domain.com?
We're thinking about moving our domain from www.domain.net to domain.com as we just acquired the dot com domain. www.domain.net receives roughly 20million pageviews per month and gets about 90% of it's traffic from search engines. What is best to do in this situation? Should we start using .com instead of .net? 301 redirecting traffic to the .com from .net? Should we drop the www in front?

Attracta.com / "weekly submissions to top 100 search engines"
I recently received an offer from Attracta.com because I have a hostgator account. They are offering different levels of service for submitting xml sitemaps on a weekly basis. Is this a good idea? Thanks for your feedback! Will PS see graphic: Screen%20Shot%202012-02-08%20at%2010.06.56%20PM.png

404checker.com / crawl errors
I noticed a few strange crawl errors in a Google Webmaster Tools account - further investigation showed they're pages that don't exist linked from here: http://404checker.com/404-checker-log Basically that means anyone can enter a URL into the website and it'll get linked from that page, temporarily at least. As there are hundreds of links of varying quality - at the moment they range from a well known car manufacturer to a university, porn and various organ enlargement websites - could that have a detrimental effect on any websites linked? They are all nofollow. Why would they choose to list these URLs on their website? It has some useful tools and information but I don't see the point in the log page. I have used it myself to check HTTP statuses but may look elsewhere from now on.
