I have a client who's competition is in the BBB, yahoo directory, best of the web sort of the standard ones. My client is empathetic about being in more places than their competition so a i am hoping for some help. I wasnt sure if the seomoz content of this is really relevant, seems a little dated on this specific topic.

Just wanted to leave a quick note saying that SEOmoz has upgraded the Link Directory! You can view a post Cyrus wrote with more information about the directory updates and link building via directories at http://www.seomoz.org/blog/seo-link-directory-best-practices

not sure you mean empathic
wish I had empathic clients
I keep this list semi up to date, altho no idea what effect Panda had on these sites.. http://seobestpractice.org/Linkbuilding

I would definitely do the BBB and look around for other applicable organizations: Rotary, Chamber of Commerce, that sort of thing. You're going to get a lot more lift from sites that are tied to legitimate orgs.

you think that about the bbb?

Submit to Yahoo and DMoz. Then look for ones specific to your industry or area of service. After you find these, look through them to make sure the linked-to sites are at least somewhat credible before deciding if you want to pursue a link on them. Make sure your client understands that a link on a directory in the back alleys of the internet can be worse than a waste of time, they can really hurt your SEO.

More than 2K dofollow links, from one site with one anchor text?
A week ago one person of our team added a link with anchor text on a web directory website PR5, but from this one link, Google indexed more than 2K links from this website with same anchor text, and then our keyword ranked first on SERP. The problem is that this clearly look like SPAM to Google, so which way is better to remove this link, with disawow tool, or to contact the web directory site owner?Could anyone give me any advice for this?

I wanted to optimize my domain name/keywords for those directories and also for my on page SEO. My domain contains my keywords. For example "www.horsebuggy.net Questions: #1 Should I target the horsebuggy.net in my on-page SEO or just target horse buggy? #2 When I submit to a paid directory which should I choose for my company name. (I currently have a DBA for each term....for ex.. horse buggy and horsebuggy.net . Thank you, Boo

Breadcrumbs - Good Internal Link Structure
Hello SEO Experts, I've been puting some thught into my internal link structure, and looking at breadcrumbs, as it has recently occured to me that most of the pages on my site link to Home | Contact Us | and paes and anchor text like that. Don't get me wrong my home page is really important, but anchor text of home I'm assuming is doing me no good at all? Anyway, here is my site home page And three other pages that are included within the site >> Pg1 | Pg2 | Pg3 So the four pages are targeting differnt keywords What I was planing on foing for Pg2 was having a breadcrumb trail that read like so site home page > Pg1 > Pg2 And then have the detail pages link from that with breadcrumbs like site home page > Pg1 > Pg2 > detail page with the home page link anchor text being 'jobs in (site area)' which would be followed by 'jobs in city' and then followed by 'sector jobs in city' So the breadcrumb trail would read - 'jobs in (site area)' > 'jobs in city' > 'sector jobs in city' So my question is, is this the best way of doing this, or would this be spammy? Ultimately it would mean 500+ internal links pointing at my homepage with the desired keywords in the anchor text?? Thanks for your thoughts 🙂
