Alt Tags for random in theme images, and images in css/flash
-
Hello,
At times a theme would include small images that are part of the design layout, but the images have links and also show up on moz bar, which means alt tags can be added. My question is should they be added?
Also sometimes the theme layout hides images in css or flash in those situations is there still a way to link alt tags to those images? For reference see faizlaw.com where the logo is hidden and the slider images.
Thanks Moz community,
V

I would go ahead and add the image alt tags
Here is a snippet from an SEOmoz answer I found.
SEOmoz data has found ALT text to carry a surprising amount of weight. If you don't abuse it, Google puts solid values on linked images and their ALT data.
Found here : SEOmoz article.
As for Flash, Google is getting better at reading Flash content. I am not sure if there is a way to do alt text but if so... I'd so it.

Http:// to https:// 301 or 302 redirect
I've read over the Q & A in the Community, but am wondering the reasoning behind this issue. I know - 301's are permanent and pass links, and 302s are temporary (due to cache) and don't pass links. But, I've run across two sites now that 302 redirect http:// to https://. Is there a valid reason behind this? From my POV and research, the redirect should 301 if it's permanent, but is there a larger issue I am missing?

Speed benefits from loading images from a subdomain
I have read that loading images from a subdomain of your site instead of the main domain will give you speed benefits on load time. Has anyone actually seen that to be the case? Thanks!

Wiki/Knowledge bases
Hi A client of mine is creating a knowledge base/wiki for their website. There using there suppliers own knowledge base (basically their a reseller). What would be the best practice with regards to duplicate content. Would it be best to make all the pages "no follow"? and block the pages by the robot.txt?

Do I need to add canonical link tags to pages that I promote & track w/ UTM tags?
New to SEOmoz, loving it so far. I promote content on my site a lot and am diligent about using UTM tags to track conversions & attribute data properly. I was reading earlier about the use of link rel=canonical in the case of duplicate page content and can't find a conclusive answer whether or not I need to add the canonical tag to these pages. Do I need the canonical tag in this case? If so, can the canonical tag live in the HEAD section of the original / base page itself as well as any other URLs that call that content (that have UTM tags, etc)? Thank you.

Thin/Duplicate Content
Hi Guys, So here's the deal, my team and I just acquired a new site using some questionable tactics. Only about 5% of the entire site is actually written by humans the rest of the 40k + (and is increasing by 1-2k auto gen pages a day)pages are all autogen + thin content. I'm trying to convince the powers that be that we cannot continue to do this. Now i'm aware of the issue but my question is what is the best way to deal with this. Should I noindex these pages at the directory level? Should I 301 them to the most relevant section where actual valuable content exists. So far it doesn't seem like Google has caught on to this yet and I want to fix the issue while not raising any more red flags in the process. Thanks!

Yahoo/Bing Search
Are there current articles that describe the differences in Yahoo/Bing vs Google SERPs? We have solid top 10 rankings in Google for a bunch of competitive keywords but aren't ranking well in Yahoo.
