Linkdomain google searches
-
I am watching a SEOmoz webinar: Future of Link Building. At 13 minutes into the move an example search is shown where the search term is linkdomain:seomoz.org -seomoz. Rand explains this search will show the results of all pages which mention seomoz.org but do not offer a followed link.
I tried that search for one of my sites: linkdomain:www.terapvp.com -terapvp. It doesn't work at all. It shows a list of sites discussing "tera pvp", none of which have links to me at all.
That leads to two questions:
-
how does the linkdomain: query work?
-
how would I ask Google to show a results page of sites with nofollow links and/or citations to my site?
-

Howdy Ryan, the linkdomain query string is for Yahoo
There's not a way to query search engines for nofollow links, but you can use OSE/ Linkscape.
And for getting citations from Google... you could do some "allintext" searches for your domain name and branded terms. Just exclude your site from the query results. Here's an example, allintext: seomoz -site:seomoz.org. It's not perfect, but you can study the Advanced Search Operator Guide for more info and ideas.
PS. another cool one to check out since we're on the topic is Bing's linkfromdomain operator.
Does this help Ryan?

What basics should we be looking at in Google Analytics?
We have GA set up on our site for a while now. However, we do not look at the data. We did today and it's quite overwhelming. Is there anything in specific we should start with? A top 3 items we should start to monitor each week and try to improve? Bonus Question: Is there a way to use analytics to find out who are competitors are?

Why my site doesn't come on top even though search terms are very similar or exact?
For example, when I search in google for "Kookaburra Pro 600 wheelie kit bag", my site comes 9th on 1st page but 3rd link doesn't even match the exact key word rather it has few of the words. Can one of you expert please explain how it works? Thanks, CricMax

Huge Update of Google Mobile Search
Latest years google is working a lot on mobile things. How do you think, is it possible after some time to see in mobile search results only mobile versions of websites. As valuable website parameters are completely different for web and mobile versions. Web needs quality content; mobile needs fast and simple content. Now it looks like something is missing in mobile search results when google gives me heavy website, which might even have no mobile version. Either redirection is also not the thing i searched for.

Sending autmated queries to Google hurting SEO?
Anyone have any ideas whether there could be a chance that a site might get penalized if it is sending automated queries to Google (ie, to check rankings)? I was reading the recently updated Google Webmaster Guidelines and saw on the section - "Quality guidelines - specific guidelines" that mentioned about sending automated queries to Google... Just wondering what are the chances that Google will actually penalize a site that sends automated queries (if they are able to identify which site is doing so in the first place)..

Tracking competitors in search engines
Hi Mozzers, I'm using Advanced Web Rankings (AWR) to track my site and a number of competitors in Google - seeing how rankings and brand visibility change from week to week. I didn't set this up from scratch and I'm worrying with all of the recent algorithm changes that I might well be tracking the wrong competitors. Is there a tool or methodology I can use to find the biggest players in the market? I'm in the travel market so there's lots of choice and I track the large sites but want to be sure I'm aware of smaller/mid-sized sites gaining visibility without me tracking them via a platform like AWR. Many thanks!

Multiple links from Dmoz/Google directories worldwide
I came across www.soundandvision.com and did a Link Analysis on them.... http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/www.soundandvision.com/a!links I noticed that the top links they have are from Google directories or Google IP's. How has this happened? I am listed in Dmoz in the UK does this mean I have automatically appeared around the world. Dmoz is pretty strict about rejecting links how can a company be listed so much? Is this a good practise? Cheers

How does a site get to no 3 in Google with no KW in their links?!!
Hello everyone, my first post - ahhh I'm investigating a niche and there is a site that should have no right being there in my view. It's no. 3 Google UK for 'company formation' with a small site with 65 weak links from only 7 domains and hosted in the US. But more importantly, the Open Site Explorer says there is not 1 link with that term in its anchor text. This I find crazy and makes me suspicious. But before I go back to my client saying "oh they must be black hat" I would like your expert views. I'm not sure whether to tut or congratulate them and for the first time I'm not sure what reasons to give for their amazing performance! What's your views?
