Which parameter does google value more: number of incoming links or on-page optimizations (meta data and keywords)?
-
I am just starting with the SEO and I have a client in the travel industry whose website is not ranked well on the search engines. After doing the seo audit we see that the website's on-page optimization (meta titles, meta description, meta keywords and h1, h2, etc tags) is bad. At the same time there are very few incoming links into the website. These are the key 2 issues we found. In order to proceed most effectively, what do you think would be more effective to focus on first? Doing the on-site optimization or focusing more on the link building? Do the search engines, in particular, google - weight more either of these parameters? thanks so much for all your advice! all the best egle

Generally Agree with EGOL .. but wanted to add (for queenz) that you seem to answer your own question .. you gotta get your copy and tags down first... paramount .

thanks EGOL for your 2 cents!

To answer your question.... In low competition SERPs, onpage optimization is very important, however, as competition becomes extreme you are engaged in a "battle of links."
In your situation... travel.... you are going into a battle of links although there can be some long tail plays where overwhelming linkstrength is not required.

If I was a new SEO I would probably cut my teeth on local sites rather than going out to battle the heavyweights in travel. Based upon the level of SEO understanding that you revealed in your question.... I think that you need to do a lot of studying fast or get an experienced SEO to help you with this job. Just my two cents.

Ideal number of internal links
Hi everyone,
Link Building | | KBB_Digital
I've been trying to find discussions on this topic, but I've only been able to find a couple of posts and they're a couple of years old now, so I'm looking for a more up to date answer. I've been doing some research lately & I'm trying to get a gauge on how many internal links I should have ideally on my website before Google suggests that I'm trying to do the wrong thing. I know previously it was suggested to keep it under 100, but, I did see Matt mention it on this video (http://searchengineland.com/googles-matt-cutts-we-dropped-the-100-links-per-page-guideline-but-we-may-take-action-if-it-is-too-spammy-178197) that it's no longer 100 links, but his answer is vague (which is what it might come down to). We're a digital marketing agency & ideally going to try write pages for our services targeted to each of the main cities around Australia & ideally they would all be linked in the footer of the website (with a nice layout, dropdowns, etc...). Looking for other peoples thoughts & opinions.0 -
Does over-optimised ext. link anchor text of one particular keyword affect our other search term rankings?
Hi, **Does having over-optimised anchor text only affect the rank for that one particular keyword being used as the anchor text or can it negatively affect our rank for other search terms as well? **

Should I link from my blog back to my product pages?
Hello... I just installed a blog on my Magento site. My question is whether or not i should be linking within posts on the blog back to the product or category pages that i am talking about...from an SEO perspective. If in my post i am talking about flashlights being important when preparing for a storm, should i link the word flashlights to the flashlight category on my site? I know I can do this, the question is should i, from google's perspective. A) should i link the word (flashlights) to that category on my page B) should i put a line at the bottom of every post that says something like "if you are interested in purchasing flashlights, visit this link" and hyperlink that whole sentence... THANKS!

Canonical version and link value
Hi I have recently included rel canonical to point at new seo friendly urls. the new urls are not externally linked as new, however the old versions (with the rel can) are. The question is Do i need to make those linked to the new urls in order to transfer link value to those urls, or the fact that the old urls contain the canonical tags automatically also transfer the external link value too? thanks

So I ran into a site that was not ranking 4 days ago and has over 2 million links to it on some keywords. My guess is this is a link bomb, but the issue is this is pushing one of my sites down. Does anyone know a good way to over come a bomb like this?
So I ran http://www.riogrande.com/ into this site not that long ago and wanted to see if any other SEO's have an opinion on it. I've seen a Google bomb before, but the amount of links going into this URL is insane. The thing is how does one over come a Google Bomb? Do you just wait to see what Google does or do you just hope to rank under that URL? I should also note that it appears that all the keywords to it are relevant to the sites content. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks
