Finding 404 links
-
My first campaign is nearly complete and I have like 40 - 404's. How can I find where these links are on my site? We recently moved over to WP from html and that's what happened.
-
Ha, great 404 page. Thanks for the reply Ryan.

It would depend on the URL involved. More specifically, what content did the URL point to previously, and is there something similar on the site now.
If the site does not contain any content related to the old URL I would make sure it has a helpful 404 page set up and let the page go to that page. 404s are a natural part of the internet and there is nothing wrong with them as long as you are prepared to handle them. Those errors can even be an opportunity to do something fun on your site. My favorite 404 page ever > http://lookitsme.co.uk/404. If you visit this link go ahead and have sound on, it's not loud, it's funny and safe for work.

So Ryan, would you then suggest doing a 301 on all those pages? I'm thinklng if the page can pass on any authority do a 301. Is it ever a good idea to just the page fall out of the index natrually. In webmaster tools google advises not to manually remove pages but I think that having a bunch of 404s is not ideal.

Check your crawl report.
There is a field titled "4xx (Client Error)". If you are using Excel select Data > Filter > AutoFilter, then change the field to TRUE. The list will show the URLs which are causing your 404 errors.

Getting 404 Errors on Fonts After Website Redesign
Hi, I recently redesigned my website and I changed a few URLs so I have been keeping an eye on 404 errors and setting up redirects as needed. However, my 404 error log keeps getting filled font related URLs like this: <colgroup><col width="960"></colgroup>

301 redirect link
Hi, I found some explanations on seomoz about permanently links, but I'm not sure, if I understood right, what to do. Our website has been created with a wrong structure and I have to change the URL of a couple of pages. E. G. http://www.ix-tours.com/Youth/ixdestBrusselYouth.aspx should be changed to http://www.ix-tours.com/DE/Jugend/BruesselJ.aspx to allow search identify it as a german page. What to do? Should I delete all content from the old page and insert the redirect to the knew one? The code as follows has to be inserted in the head section? Thank you for your help Brgds georg

Too many links on a page?
On my blog posts, I have links to all the categories and months, dating back 5-6 years. This make the number of links on each blog page well over 100, which I understand might decrease the value of each page. Is there a problem with having more than 100 links on a page?

Is anchor text link juice passed in internal links?
Let's say I have www.bobswidgets.com. If I have "widgets for sale in tuscon arizona' be the anchor text on an internal link on www.bobswidgets.com/page1 which goes to www.bobswidgets.com/page2 - does the value of the anchor text (widgets for sale in tuscon arizona) get passed internally? External links pass the value of the anchor text but do internal links?

Should I put a No follow on each link in a Javascript dropdown menu?
I have a javascript dropdown menu on every page of my site. It lists all the wineries I write about and sell. About 300 links. I've been told that google doesn't like so many links on a page, but that it doesn't spider javascrpt. Then I hear that it does. Am I being penalized by all the links? Or does the spider really not see them? I don't want to give up my javascript menus, unless I have to. Should I put a no follow on each link inside the code? And on the other hand, am I losing google juice by not letting it see all the pages on my site that I link to in the javascript menu? Thanks in advance for your help!
