How do you add a description to the Meta Description area to Tag Pages in Wordpress? This way I do not get the errors: "Missing Meta Description Tag" from SEOMoz Bot? Thanks!
-
I tried to add descriptions to my tags in Wordpress (well actually one to test), but I still keep getting the "Missing Meta Description Tag" error. Any suggestions on how to fix this in Wordpress? Thanks!
-
I have used the All In One SEO since the start, about 8 months now. Can I switch over to the SEO plugin by Yoast?
If so, is it simple or more complex?
And, are there any risks, potential problems, etc.?
I am relatively new to WordPress, but not so much to HTML.
Thanks,
Kurt

In my WordPress site, I use the All In One SEO (Version 1.6.13.8) so I don't understand why I'm getting these Errors:
Missing Meta Description Tag - 50 errors
Warnings - 83
Notices - 128
Duplicate Page Content - 35
Too Many Onpage Links - 32
Duplicate Page Title - 18
4XX (Client Error) - 3More important than that to me is, I don't know how to fix these issues.
I have tried to fix the 'Missing Meta Description' error but it has me stumped, even with using the All In One SEO plugin from day 1 of setting up my site, which is CostaRicaDentalimplants.org (I hope it's ok to put that here?).
All the fields at the SEO are as follows:
| <a title="Click for Help!">Post Title Format:</a> | |
| <a title="Click for Help!">Page Title Format:</a> | |
| <a title="Click for Help!">Category Title Format:</a> | |
| <a title="Click for Help!">Archive Title Format:</a> | |
| <a title="Click for Help!">Tag Title Format:</a> | |
| <a title="Click for Help!">Search Title Format:</a> | |
| <a title="Click for Help!">Description Format:</a> | |
| <a title="Click for Help!">404 Title Format:</a> | |
| <a title="Click for Help!">Paged Format:</a> | - Part %page% |I'm sure this looks rather elementary to the pros here, but I'm lost on how to fix any of these issues. I'd like to start with the "'Missing Meta Description'" just because I've been trying hardest on that one.
If anyone can give me any suggestions, I'd appreciate it. As you can tell, I'm fairly new at this. I have a decent grasp of HTML but WordPress is very new to me.

No problem, if you have any issues with it feel free to let me know. You can do a TON of different stuff with the WP template tags. For reference here is a page that lists all of the different tags in WP: http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags

I do a some coding skills, so I will try this option first. If it's too much of a hassle I will use one of the plugin options. Thanks!.

I thought about using those plugins (known about them for years), but was hoping the template I had would suffice. I guess I will use one of them. Thanks!.

You can add Meta descriptions in wordpress 2 different ways. If you have a small site and want to simply add a generic description all you need to do is open up header.php in your themes directory and add the following code:
This will pull the site description that can be set in the "general settings" in the WP admin section. If you are looking to generate dynamic meta info then this is best done with a plugin (although it is not very hard to simply pull the excerpt or any post meta and have that display). That would look something like:
If you want to go the plugin route I would second the All in one SEO and SEO plugin by Yoast. Additionally Premium Dev offers an SEO plugin that is pretty sweet but you have to pay to get access to all their plugins so you are probably better off with the free ones.

If you arent already, you should get either the SEO plugin by Yoast or the All in One SEO Pack for your WordPress install. Both of them will add fields on a per post and page level where you can enter your Meta information.

Howdy! Are you using any plugins to control your tag descriptions? Scott

Are "appliance repair" and "appliance repair los angeles" consider the same keyword?
Hello, I know that you can't optimize two pages for 1 keyword because Google will get confused and will rather prefer my competitor. But I can't get if it will consider "appliance repair" and "appliance repair los angeles" same keywords? The homepage of my website, https://www.ifixappliancesla.com, is optimized for "appliance repair", one of the inner pages is optimized for "appliance repair los angeles". None of them shows on the first page in local SERPs for any of those quires. I am wondering if this is because Google sees it as both pages are optimized for "appliance repair"?

"nofollow" vs. "no follow"
Does anyone know if it is problematic to have a space between the "no" and the "follow"? I just discovered our CMS has been inserting a space and am trying to understand if it the reason why something that we were trying to keep from being indexed has become indexed.

Wordpress 4xx errors from comment re-direct
About a month ago, we had a massive jump in 4XX errors. It seems the majority are being caused by the comment tool on wordpress, which is generating a link that looks like this "http://www.turnerpr.com/blog/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.turnerpr.com%2Fblog%2F2013%2F09%2Fturners-crew-royal-treatment-well-sort-of%2Fphoto-2-2%2F" On every single post. We're using Akismet and haven't had issues in the past....and I can't figure out the fix. I've tried turning it off and back on; I'm reluctant to completely switch commenting systems because we'd lose so much history. Anyone seen this particular re-direct love happen before? Angela

Missing meta descriptions from Google SERPs
Hullo all, I run an e-commerce website and hence have a lot of product category/sub-category pages to handle. Despite giving each of these category pages meta descriptions, in the Google SERPs, a lot of these descriptions don't show up fully. Rather, only half the text that I'd inputed as my meta desc. shows up; the other half has generic stuff from that page given. I've attached a screen shot to give you an example of what comes up in the SERPs. Could you please tell me what exactly is the problem? Is it a coding issue? Or has Google not crawled that page? Need help asap! Thank you in advance! aE9RKXJ

Issue: Duplicate Page Content > Wordpress Comments Page
Hello Moz Community, I've create a campaign in Moz and received hundreds of errors, regarding "Duplicate Page Content". After some review, I've found that 99% of the errors in the "Duplicate Page Content" report are occurring due to Wordpress creating a new comment page (with the original post detail), if a comment is made on a blog post. The post comment can be displayed on the original blog post, but also viewable on a second URL, created by Wordpress. http://www.Example.com/example-post http://www.Example.com/example-post/comment-page-1 Anyone else experience this issue in Wordpress or this same type of report in Moz? Thanks for your help!

Google using descriptions from other websites instead of site's own meta description
In the last month or so, Google has started displaying a description under links to my home page in its search results that doesn't actually come from my site. I have a meta description tag in place and for a very limited set of keywords, that description is displayed, but for the majority of results, it's displaying a description that appears on Alexa.com and a handful of other sites that seem to have copied Alexa's listing, e.g. similarsites.com. The problem is, the description from these other sites isn't particularly descriptive and mentions a service that we no longer provide. So my questions are: Why is Google doing this? Surely that's broken behaviour. How do I fix it?

How to block "print" pages from indexing
I have a fairly large FAQ section and every article has a "print" button. Unfortunately, this is creating a page for every article which is muddying up the index - especially on my own site using Google Custom Search. Can you recommend a way to block this from happening? Example Article: http://www.knottyboy.com/lore/idx.php/11/183/Maintenance-of-Mature-Locks-6-months-/article/How-do-I-get-sand-out-of-my-dreads.html Example "Print" page: http://www.knottyboy.com/lore/article.php?id=052&action=print
