Best 404 Error Checker?
-
I have a client with a lot of 404 errors from Web Master Tools, and i have to go through and check each of the links because
- Some redirect to the correct page
- Some redirect to another url but its a 404 error
- Some are just 404 errors
Does anyone know of a tool where i can dump all of the urls and it will tell me
- If the url is redirected, and to where
- if the page is a 404 or other error
Any tips or suggestions will be really appreciated!
Thanks SEO Moz'rs

Check out the free Xenu Link Sleuth and this post: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/xenu-link-sleuth-more-than-just-a-broken-links-finder
I haven't used it myself (yet), but Screaming Frog could help as an alternative, though the full version is paid. This post compares the two: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/crawler-faceoff-xenu-vs-screaming-frog

Have you tried the SEOmoz Crawl Diagnostics report? That will show the 404 errors and the pages on the site that have the links to those pages.

Topic Cluster: URL Best Practices
I'm trying to be mature and employ the Topic Cluster strategy to my content. In doing so I realized there are a few URL options. Some more difficult to execute than others. -Is it important to call out the Pillar Topic in your subtopic URL?
Technical SEO | | dkellyagile
-Does the Pillar Topic need to have its own landing page? (As opposed to just being part of the blog.) Here's an Example: My Pillar is: Inbound vs. Outbound
My subtopic is: Marketing Platforms Here are the URL options I can think of... Option 1: https://pipelineinbound.com/blog/inbound-vs-outbound-marketing-platforms/ Option 2: https://pipelineinbound.com/blog/which-marketing-platforms/ Option 3: https://pipelineinbound.com/blog/marketing-platforms-inbound-vs-outbound/ Option 4 (Hardest): https://pipelineinbound.com/inbound-vs-outbound/marketing-platforms/ Are there some fundamental best practices for URL structure and Link Building as it pertains to Topic Clusters? Website crawl error
Hi all, When I try to crawl a website, I got next error message: "java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Illegal cookie name" For the moment, I found next explanation: The errors indicate that one of the web servers within the same cookie domain as the server is setting a cookie for your domain with the name "path", as well as another cookie with the name "domain" Does anyone has experience with this problem, knows what it means and knows how to solve it? Thanks in advance! Jens

Odd URL errors upon crawl
Hi, I see this in Google Webmasters, and am now also seeing it here...when a crawl is performed on my site, I get many 500 server error codes for URLs that I don't believe exist. It's as if it sees a normal URL but adds this to it: %3Cdiv%20id= It's like this for hundreds of URLs. Good URL that actually exists http://www.ffr-dsi.com/food-retailing/supplies/ URL that causes error and I have no idea why http://www.ffr-dsi.com/food-retailing/supplies/%3Cdiv%20id= Thanks!

404 Error
Hello, Seomoz flagged a url as having a 404 client error. The reason the link doesn't return a proper content page is because the url name was changed. What should we do? Will this error disappear when Google indexes our site again? Or is there some way to manually eliminate it? Thanks!

404 appearing in Sitelinks
I am little embarresed to say that the custom 404 page is appearing in a client's Sitelinks for their brand name search term. I have demoted this page from Sitelinks for the brand term but it still appears 😞 What is the best practise for a custom 404 page appearing in a sitemap and/or being blocked by robots.txt? Thanks
