Pinging Service?
-
Hi I'm considering using this pinging service http://www.pingler.com
I would just like people opinions on this? They will ping 25urls for me each month on regular basis. I can choose either to get my urls pinged daily or every 10 days for only $3 a month.
Does any have experience with pining services & will this benefit my seo, thanks.

Mike, I think I almost got the jest of your reply post, but let me make sure. I'll make some assumptions out loud and you tell me if I'm reading the tea leaves correctly, if you don't mind, that is, please.
The site you mention, e.g. blogrolling.com etc., I take it those are sites that a ping service would notify about my newly submitted url to the ping service?
Regarding the 'keeping track' comments, I take it you mean that I could manually go to each of these sites and submit my site, but the ping services does that for me, and to many sites from my one submission to them?
As you can tell, ping services are new to me and like Socialdude who started this post, I am trying to understand it. Especially three aspects:
1. How and why do ping services work, and
2. What is their incentive to exist and do all this work for us for free? So they can advertise to us?
3. I own the site www.Grossinternational.com and I put new pages and blogs up on the site often so I am trying to understand if I should ping every new page and post, which I think I should, and second, should I ping them just the once and let it go or re-ping those pages?
It seems to me that I should only do it once, but when I see ping services offering to ping my site weekly or daily even, then I start doubting my understanding again. My latest blog tonight is at http://grossinternational.com/penny-auction-strategy/ and I just pinged it. Now, should I do that again in a week? And if so, why and how often?
Thanks for your help and time, and with me especially, thanks for your patience.

P.S. One other question, i.e. I pinged this page with this post on it. Isn't that a good idea, or not?

Thanks for the link Robert. I can't see details on the site for how regularly they check your sites - does the free service still check fairly regularly? we're currently using another service that I'd like to switch away from.

cheers for the reply guys
@Mike I'm not using wordpress My site is built using the cms http://modx.com so I'll find out how to add a pinging service to my site.
OR as mentioned above just use pingler.com

Yes, it basically spreads the word about your content.
As Ping-o-Matic puts it:
So why would you want to be on these sites? One word: traffic. Blogrolling scripts like blogrolling.com and WordPress check update services to see if you've updated and then shows it on everyone's site -- usually by moving you to the top of people's blogrolling list or putting a recently updated indicator by your link. Services like Technorati spider your links to track who links to you and who you link to; almost in real time. If you show up on someone's Technorati link list (often called an "egorati search") they're likely to visit your site to see what you said, increasing your exposure. Other sites like weblogs.com and blo.gs list recently updated blogs. Lots of people browse these when they're bored. Many of the services offer their own forms for pinging their own service, but keeping track of all those services is a hassle.

Aaaaahhhh, thanks for the assist,
Does it assist SEO?
-
Robert,
I think you and Socialdude are talking about two different meanings for pinging. Socialdude is talking about pinging regarding updated site/blog content, where you are talking about monitoring to make sure your site is still active.
-
Hey,
Wordpress has a huge list of pinging services available:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Update_Services
I would think that one of those will do what you need.

Before you make your decision, check out Mon.itor.us
We started using them when we had some sites on one of our dedicated servers go down. They monitor every IP address we have and we get reports via email and if a problem we get sms.
They are very good, have reporting, etc. and.....they are free.
Best of luck.

Can service request pages be indexed for a service site?
I think there is no point in indexing service request pages for a service site. And it causes the indexing of the main pages to be done with a delay. Does anyone have experience with indexing service request pages and their results?

How can I outrank a website whose brand is named specifically after a product / service (and mine is not!) ?
Hi everyone, I've been working hard on my on-page SEO lately so I can gain visibility for my website. The results have been great and I am now on top of the SERP for the services I propose. I think that my content is almost fully optimize and** I've respected all the best practices (both on-page and technical SEO)**. However, there is one problem I just can't deal with for I don't have the knowledge, hence this post. I'm pretty sure that this issue is quite common for SEO experts. Here the thing: I offer dental emergency services, which is my core business. I'm ranked 4th for that request in my area, which is good, but I'd like to rank 1st as** I have a better DA and content than the 3 websites outranking me**. Also, I'm the first result for any other related services such as "dental services" or "dentist". However, when it comes to the theme "dental emergency", I'm constantly outranked by the same 3 websites. I ran an audit on their website but **my content and technical SEO is way better **than theirs. I suppose that the only reason I'm behind them is because they used "dental emergency" in their **Brand name **and, therefore, in the Home page URL. Every time someone is looking up online for "dental emergency", these websites will be on top of the SERP as I think that Google is unable to know whether the users are specifically looking for their websites (aka Brand) or for "dental emergency" services. Here is an example of a competitor: https://www.urgencedentairedemontreal.com/ (urgence meaning emergency in French). His whole Brand name and URL have been built after the "dental emergency." service. On the contrary, **my Brand name does not mention "urgence". ** I see that as a trick that is confusing Google. The fact that my competitors named their Brand after a specific service I also offer is real pain for my SEO. I also think it's really unfair as I've put a lot of effort in designing a nice website with great UX and content. This is the kind of practice that should be penalized in my opinion. Please, does anyone know any way to resolve this issue?

Anyone available to hire part time for SEO services?
I have a website (http://www.tbreak.ae) that does tech news and reviews and is based out of the Middle East. I would love to learn more about SEO and do the best job but I just don't have the time. I was thus wondering is there is anyone available that can spend about an hour on my site every day optimising content. I don't know if posting such as offer is allowed or not either but if it is, and if you are interested, then please get back to me on how much it would cost.

Using Transcription Service For Videos - Have Question Around Search and Spiders
Hi All, So I have put together a weekly video series on security topics. I have read an SEOmoz post around how you can boost SEO by adding the transcription to the page, which makes perfectly good sense. My question is, can I include the first couple of paragraphs and then have a "read the full transcription" so when the user clicks, the rest of the content appears? Do the search engine spiders only crawl the first two paragraphs in this instance or do they crawl the whole thing even though the entire content is not on the page? I dont mind making the page longer and including the entire transcription if it is easier for SEO but if there is no difference, than I think the first option would be the best user experience. Thanks for the help Pat

Many pages describing services or just a few?
Hello, I'm in a professional services industry. My services, and my competitors' services, can be broken down into about 20 categories or so. Most of my competitors have 50–100 pages describing their services, pages all cross-linked with appropriate anchor texts, but pages that have a lot of duplicate (though rewritten) content. That is, each individual page is pretty shallow, but they create the structural appearance of a lot of relevant content. Should I do the same, or should I just stick to the 20 categories with a handful of cross-links as necessary? This will allow me to get more relevant keywords on the page, and will likely be easier for the user, but might make Googlebot think the site isn't as deep, and it might affect my ability to do as many internal anchor text links.
