Why is this website with worse metrics performing better on serps?
-
Hi!
I would like to ask if anyone has any ideas on why the second website in this analysis is getting position 2 on google and website 1 is getting position 5:
The metrics indicate that the first website is clearly superior in (almost) all metrics.
Why could this be?

Thanks! We'll wait, improve and see.

Thanks!!
I'll look into that.
-
1. Age of Domain
2. Inbound link keyword usage
3. Keyword usage
4. Relevant words around Keywords (minor correlation from what I last read)
5. How often content is updated
Here's a little breakdown from SeoMoz: http://www.seomoz.org/article/search-ranking-factors
I would add another phrase to your Title Tag that is similar to what you are going after. This will add relevancy to your website, which has a slight positive correlation to rankings. In addition, make sure that you are getting links with the exact phrase you are going after, as well as others that are similar. In addition, you will also want some no-followed links in the mix just to be diverse.

Ok, thanks. In this case there is no Google local results because it's not a location related phrase.
You say that the seomoz report card is just a starting point. After that, and considering that the authority is 30 vs 18 and other factors like MozRank, MozTrust, etc are also superior, what other factors should I take into consideration?
What other factors seem to be improvable in http://bonobetfair.info?
-
The letter grade "A" only implies that you have used the phrase in the places it suggests. However, there is far more involved. For example, I actually get a "F" for a search phrase that I'm not totally interested in. However, I rank #2 for that search phrase. The only reason I'm #2 instead of #1 is because of Google Local results. Anyway, my point is that the seomoz report card is just a starting point, and not the answer.

Thanks for your anwer dmcontact1.
I forgot to say that the phrase is "bono betfair".
All links are pointing to http://bonobetfair.info, consistently.
I check the serps without being logged in and I use seomoz ranktracker to check it.
I just think that the difference in the metrics is just too high. I think that the extension .info or .com should not be mattering so much....
-
The 1st site (my site) has an A (see attached image) for the desired phrase (bono betfair), so I would say there is some on page SEO
So I don't think that's it. But thanks Ressler Motors.
Is there something in the structure of my website that is not ok?
Does anybody else have any other suggestions?
-
Neither of you seem to be utilizing on page SEO (Title, H1, H2, etc.) in a way to rank higher for any particular phrase. In addition to on page seo, you must also consider the structure of your website, the age and the keywords from the links that you have.

When my new website went live I saw a huge spike in traffic for 3 weeks but then it halved again. Why would this happen?
My new website went live on 13th April and the organic traffic levels increased by 110%, staying at that level for 3 weeks. Then exactly 3 weeks later the organic traffic halved again, going back to the same level as the old site. Has anyone seen this happen before or worked out why?! Thanks Viki P2R76O9

Title Tag Capitalization Impact on SERP Rankings and Click Through Rates
My company made a branding decision to use lowercase for all of our title tags. This, of course, means that our titles on SERPs are all lower case. Overwhelmingly, it seems that websites use title case. This makes me wonder if we're shooting ourselves in the foot. Does using lower case titles negatively impact our rankings and/or click through rates? Is there any data out there suggesting that title case has a better click through rate than lower case? Thanks for reading!

Rising in Bing and Yahoo SERP's, but falling in Googles?
We've dropped rankings across the board in Google, not severely but 1 and 2 spot drops and yet increased in rankings in Bing and Yahoo on the same keywords (basically all of them). Is this the sign of a new bad incoming link?

How to track and verify 301 redirects from 22 old websites to a new one?
Me and my team have just finished a website which will replace 22 old ones (6 main domains and 16 sub-domains, 19 in wordpress and 3 in Joomla). This means more than 20,000 links that we're trying to redirect with the most granularity possible. But we're experiencing a lot of conflicts because of the quantity and variety of links and the interference of Wordpress. And I'm having trouble finding which links are working and which aren't. I have a URL list in a plain .txt file for every website, is there a tool that can check these links for me? I've tested many wordpress plugins, but I didn't find a good one. Thanks!

Why is a section of our website dropping in&out of Google SERPs?
In July 2011 we started a news section that has it's own 'subfolder' /news/ (http://www.chorder.com/news/new_gear/, http://www.chorder.com/news/gear_deals/ etc.) The whole news section is dropping in&out of Google SERP's since late October, as show in attached graph. All news texts are real deal, written by our own staff, linked from homepage. Any idea why this happens and how to prevent it? cmqky.png

GA custom reports involving pages and goals - what are the metrics saying?
Hi, All! I would like to create a custom report that will enable me to see which of my pages are contributing to goal completion on my site (so I can then optimize the pages that are contributing the most, with maximal ROI for the optimization investment). If I make the dimension "page/page title" and the metric "goal X completions" - which would make sense - what exactly are the numbers that I am seeing telling me? Is it how many times a person started the goal funnel from that pages (meaning every goal would appear only once and there be no overlap)? That doesn't appear to be the case with the numbers, because the headline in the main "Goals" section tells me I have 30 goal completions for that goal, for example, but the headline in the custom report (which is adding up all the numbers) is, say, 100. Or does it mean the number of times that this page was ever in the navigation path of someone who ended up completing a goal? Then the same goal would be counted multiple times, for each page in the path. Additionally, I see this strange thing on some of my reports where the actual funnel pages appear as contributing towards goals, which I guess makes sense, but again the numbers don't match up. If the goal was to get to page B, and the funnel was A->B, and there were supposedly 30 goal completions, my custom report says that A gave 28 goal completions and B gave 25. Anyone know for sure - or through testing - what the case is with all these things? Any explanations will be much appreciated!
