Paying someone to get me links-bad idea?
-
By this i dont mean paying for links as such...I mean the people that advertise on websites like Fiverr saying they will get you links to your site from edu/gov domains...or angela/paul style links etc.
I'm doing all the proper link building stuff like blogging/guest blogs/articles etc etc but am up against competitiors with thousands of links...Is this a way to 'catch up' or should it be avoided.
I'm new to all of this so be gentle lol...grateful for any replies

I really dont use Fiverr Gigs service, most of them are just spam links and automated links..Few are verified, many are spammed and even links are gone.
Better create good content of articles, and engage social networks.

I didn't realise to check the thread creator url so thumbs up for "da great answer"

Thankyou all for your replies, some great ideas...love the florist one! Will do some investigation. also the gift widget but wouldnt know how to even start doing that!

I agree with PabloGV.
Don't sell your site short by engaging in these dubious link practices, Search is an unregulated industry and there are so many unethical agencies out there (such as many of the purely link building service companies) which can harm your site more than it may seem.
That said there are many ethical professional agencies that could help with your overall search strategy, including ethical link acquisition as a part of the mix.
Keep focusing on a variety of high quality, useful, interesting unique content and distribute it well, that will help to get those all important high quality relevant links.

Simon

Have you tried getting links from a gemological institute?
Make a real world comparison on the the three C's of diamonds, with videos of real women trying to tell the difference. Ask bloggers, gemological institutes and other jewelry stores to link to it.
Costume designer?
If you design some of your own rings then you could work with a costume designer to make some simple jewelry. Ask for a link for your efforts. Maybe write a review of their recent play, and ask for a link from them on it.
Wedding Planner?
Not sure how this one would work, but you might!
Photographers?
Offer to use some of your really nice jewelry in some staged pictures. Ask the photographer for credit on the jewelry in the photos.
Florists?
Every woman loves the gift of flowers and jewelry, why not find a way to work together? You could also write an article about choosing the best flowers for the occasion, and ask for links from them.
You could also create a gift widget. Submit the event, preferences, price range and the widget would produce gift ideas. Embed a link to your website from it as the source, and try to get people to put it on their website.
For any of these people you could offer some SEO advice in trade for a link on their website.
As for your actual question, it's all about risk vs reward. Some companies try to go after links in a very natural way, and some companies just try obtain links. The first is going to be very beneficial, but quite expensive. The latter will also be beneficial, but carry more risk. It all depends on what you are looking for.

Hey Bridal, I don't believe it's such a great idea, honestly. That may be just so close as spam that I wouldn't take the risk, but instead you could pay for a lot of other actions that could lead to earn links just adhering to wh tactics...like doing an awesome infographic, releasing a free pdf or doc, and such things.
Those automatic build links (or close to spam) usually drive not to a penalization but to loose money and/or time because SE's are going to unweight them usually really really fast.

It's surely black hat tactics. How do they get away with this? The website has zero content beyond light brochureware.

Internal links: How do I find keywords that are not linked to a URL?
Hi Moz members I'd really like to place an internal link of every instance of an important keyword phrase "cycling caps" or "cycling cap" to my eComm category page
Link Building | | andystorey
https://www.prendas.co.uk/collections/headwear/cotton-caps I feel this would not only help my customers browsing my store, but I believe it will help from an SEO perspective. How can I search my site using Moz, Screaming Frog, Google etc to find every time cycling cap(s) is used but is not linked to the above URL? I can then apply the same for cycling jerseys, socks, etc Andy0 -
Linking between properties
I own 3 domains. One is my blog, one is my photography business site, and one is my graphic/web design site. They are all hosted on the same VPS account. I link between each site. Also, since the links are either in the nav, footer or sidebar, all pages from one page link to the homepage of each other. Is this an issue for SEO? Should I not be doing this? Would it be beneficial to use a no follow link instead if I'm to keep them?

How long does it take to get links indexed?
How long does it take Google Webmaster tools on average to detect links to my website? What about OSE? My site is fairly new (launched in January) and I've done some guest blogging -- I would think that some links from 3-4 weeks ago would be showing up by now. Am I just being impatient?

What are your favorite tactics for getting links to money-pages?
We've got content marketing and other great tactics for getting links to content pages, but what are your favorite tactics for getting links to your money pages (i.e. product pages, landing pages, devices pages, sales letters, etc.) For example: For certain sites (especially some ecommerce sites), one can get a few backlinks by doing giveaways, contests, or events Some sites can give their product to bloggers to review If you're selling an exciting product and/or a product that appeals to a passionate user base, such tactics can work great. There are some sites that such tactics won't work very well for, though. For example, if you sell a boring or highly specialized product that bloggers won't want to review or giveaway as a contest prize - such as valves used in a specific commercial application, or an expensive B2B product that you can't really giveaway. Creativity is of course important, but sometimes it can only take you so far. What are your favorite strategies for getting quality backlinks to your "money pages" especially for sites that don't fit into the "ecommerce site selling cool stuff" category?

Are link exchanges bad for SEO these days? Also, is adding my site to free yet relevent directory sites a bad idea?
I operate a computer services company in Eugene, Oregon called "Eugene Computer Geeks". We do a lot of web design, and need incoming links to my site very badly. Lately I've been asking clients if they would link to me, but they almost always ask for a link in return. If we exchange links, does Google penalize my site? Would the incoming link be better for SEO if I'm not linking back to the other site? ALSO Is it possible that manually submitting my site to free, yet relevant web directories would hurt my rankings? It's not a big deal to me if it doesn't help my rankings, as I see a benefit to having my site listed, but wanted to make sure there wasn't a chance that it would hurt my rankings. As far as I know all the directories are free from SPAM, porn, warez, or anything like that. Thanks!

Links from any country?
My site is aimed primarily at the UK, 90% of the traffic is from the UK and most of my links are from other UK based and UK targetted websites. The content is actually fairly international (apart from certain terms like Plasterboard instead of Drywall, etc). My question is: Should I concentrate on gathering links from the UK, or should I widen my search and try to get links from US and European websites? Are there any particular advantages or disadvantages to keeping links "local"?
