Article Links
-
I write and publish artcles. Typically I publish them on a few top article sites like EZineArticles. The articles then get picked up by other sites, often numbering in the hundreds. All of the articles are published with a link back to our website using a keyword. Are there any SEO risks in this type of link proliferation?

Late to the part with this but I just can't see G penalising a site because it has too many links from articles with the same anchor text.
If that were the case we would see a lot of webmaters and SEOs arranging lots of those links to their competitors sites in order to de-rank them, thus leaving the way clear for their own sites.

Hey Everett,
Good answer - and it makes sense. Having once been banished to page four, I'm now being very careful about everything, especially over-optimized linking. Diversity is the way!

Jim the key to link building is diversity. It might still be worth doing a distribution now and then, but - like everyone below has said - your time is usually better spent in other ways, including putting high quality content onto your own website, doing exclusive guest posts on higher-quality sites, etc...
I would have endorsed someone's answer instead of posting my own, but have to disagree that there is no danger in building massive amounts of links using article distribution, as you describe. I have seen sites get hit with algorithmic penalties for having overoptimized anchor text in their links. So if you have thousands of such articles all pointing with the same, highly optimized text, and your link profile leans heavily toward these types of links from article distribution, you could trip a filter and end up with a penalty that sets you back anywhere from a few spots to a few pages - or even a +950 penalty if some of those links are suspected as being paid for.
Long story short: If you diversify and focus your efforts on the highest quality links you can get - you'll be fine.

Hey Mike, Thanks for the thought. I'm inclined to agree that there are better ways to improve search engine rankings, including adding content to my own site, writing on my blog, etc. So, in the end, I am left wondering if there is any value at all from investing time in writing articles.

Agree with Sean, time spent on writing for EZA would be better spent writing for your own blog or site. You can do some article marketing but don't obsess on it. If you outsource the writing then I would still keep it in moderation.

This is definitely the bottom of the barrel type link. You're not going to get penalized and it's not risky, but the time you spend working on an article that will go on a site like ezinearticles could be better spent on higher ROI link building. Plus, I read that ezine experienced a huge traffic drop with the most recent algo update and have talked about putting nofollow on article links.

I would say no. If this was a problem a lot of sites would get in trouble, too many for Google to go and mass penalise.

Inbound Links not showing. Links are not no follow
Over the past several months I have definitely received inbound links to my website ( none of which are no follow). I have HubSpot as well s Moz and none of the links are showing. My competitors with the same link sources are showing though. I am completely dumbfounded. Why are my inbound links not showing and how much time does it take for them to show if they show at all? Thank you!

Handling External links to articles in a blog
I have a blog that has it's own articles but then also want to feature third-party sites that have my op-ed content on them. Wondering what is the best practice for handling external links. The reason we want to do this: Make sure our followers and people who subscribe to our blog see all our content (especially when a third-party "high authority" publisher is featuring articles from our authors We also want to be able to get a ranking for the article title when someone searches for it on Search Engines. i.e I write an article for hubspot called "my article about something". When googling "my article about something" I want to see both the Hubspot listing (where my article originated on) as well as a link to my website where I show an abstract (original abstract) and then the link links to the hubspot article. For example: www.myblog.com/listing (renders a listing of articles with links to each individual article) If showing an "abstract" for the blog article and then linking out to the third-party source (where content is featured) www.myblog.com/category/post-title (renders actual article page) When showing an individual post-title page what are the minimum requirements (META TAGS, length or amount of characters ,etc) Thanks in advance!

I have just read an article that says no follows now leak link juice?
I have just been reading a really interesting article about link juice. The way I read the piece the author was saying that there has been a change in the way link juice is blocked with 'no follows.' The author seemed to say that there has been a change and now even if you add a 'no follow' onto a page that the page will still send link juice to that page. I may have read this wrong. I just wanted to check if anyone else had heard this at all? Many thanks

Is there a software to help me check whether the sites that i give link to, also place my link on their site (reciprocal link)?
When i exchange links with others, i usually put their link on my site hoping that they'll do the same. Since it's impossible to check all sites whose link i have placed on my page to see if they have put a link back to me, i was wondering whether there is a kind of software to help me do that!

Using an SEO Agency to build one-way links for you via link exchange
There are a number of SEO agencies which offer link building as part of their SEO offerings. I believe they build one-way links to the client site, by offering another link in exchange to the liking site. So, if the client site is "C", and link is being requested from site "A", the site "A" owner is offered a link from site "B" in return. Is this a good and/or recommended practice?
