301 Redirect
-
Need a little bit of help on this one.
I have a product page which actually has 3 products on the page in question:
I thought it would be best for each product to have a page on its own:
however my question is:
The page with the 3 products www.example.com/products where should the 301 go to?
Can you do a 301 to all the new product pages?
Hope that makes sense
Kind Regards,

Hi thanks for the quick reply.
The new pages will have unique content written for these pages for SEO purposes, that's one of the reasons I am doing this, however with the example.com/products page having a high PR, i thought it would be best taking advantage of this and using a 301, however after thinking about it a bit more, I think i actually might keep this page plus add the other product pages to help the keywords SERPs

Wjhat would be better, is make 2 new pages and keep one product on the old page, this way you would lose anything with the 301 redirect.

Hi,
It kinda depends on where the search is starting and where you want the users to end up.
Getting your 301 redirect to sort out where the user should be (product1 , 2 or 3) may well be possible. Is that what you actually want?
From the question I am assuming that you want to move the 3 product page (single page) to multiple 1 product pages.
If this is the way you want it to be there could be a way to create a 301 redirect to push url/anchor to the correct page.
Are you now duplicating the content in your 3 product page and the individual pages?

Hi Neil,
Yes, sorry, when reading the post back, it just not make sense Can you do a 301 to all the new product pages?
Thanks for that, I was thinking to do it that way, probably makes sense.

You can only do a 301 redirect to 1 page. I'd pick the best performing product out of the 3 and redirect it to that one.

.aspx 301 redirects on Business Catalyst
Hi I am have moved my website from .aspx to business catalyst. I have found out (when the site already migrated!) that Business Catalyst does not support .aspx 301 redirects. On a previous post from 2012 (https://moz.com/community/q/aspx-files-will-simply-not-work-as-redirects) , someone has recommended a java script re direct. I have tried this but google search console is classing this as a 404 resulting in no link juice and my website dropping pages on google. I have tried to do 301 redirects at my server level but wont work. Anyone know a solution? Thanks in advance Keith

Best Practice on 301 Redirect - Images
We have two sites that sell the same products. We have decided to retire one of the sites as we'd like to focus on one property. I know best practice is to redirect apples to apples, which in our case is easily done since the sites sold the same thing. www.SiteABC.com/ProductA can be redirected to www.SiteXYZ.com/ProductA. My question is how far does that thinking go regarding images? Each product has a main product page, of course, and then up to 6 images in some cases. Is it necessary to redirect www.SiteABC.com/ProductA-Image1.jpg to www.SiteXYZ.com/ProductA-Image1.jpg? Or can they all be redirected to just the product page?

How to know what pages are 301 redirecting to me?
Hi! It is easy to know if somebody is spam linking your website, looking i.e., looking at open site explorer to analyse the links profile. But, is it possible to know if a competitor of mine is redirecting a bad domain to main with a 301 redirect, thus transfering any bad SEO reputation to me? Best Regards, Daniel

301 redirects
Hi, I am a working on a new web site, and I want to redirect all the urls of another site (on a different host) to this one. According to both hosts it is "impossible" to do this for all urls. I don't believe that to be the case, but how do I do this? And, should both sites be hosted on the same server first?

301 redirect domain to page on another domain
Hi, If I wanted to do a 301 permanent redirect on a domain to a page on another domain will this cause any problems? Lets say I have 4 domains (all indexed with content), I decide to create a new domain with 4 pages, one for each domain. I copy the content from the old domains to the relevant page on the new domain and set it live. At the same time as setting the new site live I do a 301 permanent redirect on the 4 domains to the relevant pages on the new domain. What happens if Google indexes the new site before visiting the redirected domains, could this cause a duplicate content penalty? Cheers

301 Redirect & re-use
I have an old site which is being moved to a new tld due to re-branding. I understand I would do a series of 301 redirects from the pages of the old site to capture the authority and move to the new site. However, at some point in the future (probably 1-2 years) we may want to re-use the old site again for a different brand (it has a good brand, just not for what we're going after). Question is - can a redirected site be re-used at some point in the future? And if so, which site would new authority (links, etc.) go to?
