Is Open Site Explorer ignoring 301 redirects now?
-
I just recently saw a huge decline in the page rank of a specific page on my site. When I investigated a bit further I noticed that the drop in page rank looks like it is due to the fact that most of the links to the page come through 301 re-directs from an old page. I know you just made a change to Open Site Explorer. Did you change the way that you are treating 301 re-directs?
Here is the new page:
http://www.justjen.com/shop/big-sister-tshirts.htm
Here is the old page:
http://www.justjen.com/shop/bigsister-tshirts.htm
Up until the last couple of days, the new page was showing the links from the old page in your cache, but as of today, the new page is only showing the links that go to it, not the links to the old page that is re-directed to it.
If there was a change recently, was this intentional (trying to replicate the search engines better) or is it an oversight or database anomaly?

Hey Lawrence,
The changes made to the PA model do not treat 301 redirects any different - we haven't made any updates to how we handle redirects. However, if you've seen a drop in your links, we probably didn't crawl the pages redirecting to you. This would definitely affect your PA score.
I hope this helps, but let me know if you have more questions! If you want to find out more information on the new PA model, Matt Peters, the engineer who worked on the new model, has a great blog post here:

Thanks,
Carin

Organic Traffic Drops to Zero After Site Migration
I know this question is terribly general . . . but I don't even know where to start in terms of sharing info, which I would be glad to post on request. My site was recently re-designed and migrated to a new server. I certainly expected SOME drop in traffic as google gets the snew site all figured out, but as you can see this drop has been dramatic. It's a simple wordpress site, I have yoast ptimized on it, I don't have many obvious errors that have not already been fixed that I can see.

Moz Spam Analysis vs. GWMT Links to Your Site
Hi Moz Community, I have been conducting some link auditing and started comparing the Moz Spam Analysis tool with the links provided in Google WMT. It appears that the Moz Spam Analysis tools shows an aggregate of links that Moz may or may not consider spam, however when you download and look at Google's "Links to Your Site" list it provides every link iteration known to man that's pointing to the target website - without providing any hints as to whether or not a link may be considered spam by Google. The biggest concern I have here is that Google is picking up a lot of links, which I consider spam, that do not appear in the Moz Spam Analysis results. I guess the question(s) I have are: Does it make sense to compare these two data sets? Has anyone else tried this comparison and how did you use the information to make positive changes? Any recommendations when it comes to determining if an external link is spam/hurting/helping a website? Thank you!

Add to cart redirect using 302
I am getting a list of crawl errors in Moz because I am using a 302 redirect when people click on an item using the quickview add to cart eg:http://copyfaxes.com/cart/quickadd?partno=4061 will redirect them to the viewshoppingcart page. Is this wrong should this be a 301 redirect? There is no link juice to pass. Thanks

How come a site with low PR and DA is first on everything?
Hi All, I've encountered a site that has PR3 on most important pages (and less on others but no more on any) and DA according to MOZ in the low 40's however it is first on everything on his niche (many keywords). How is it possible? Since it is possible, what is the importance of these metrics anyhow? Thanks

Anchor Text Report in Open Site Explorer
When downloading an anchor text report in OSE, there are very often a bunch or anchor texts at the end of the report that have 0 next to them (i.e. anchor texts that come from 0 domains and from 0 links - if you want a URL to run as an example try www.bbc.co.uk/sport/ and paginate your way to page 7) Surely it is not possible for an anchor text to be found on zero domains/links - so how should these zeros be interpreted? There are numerous different anchor texts showing these zero's. Thanks in advance for any responses.

How to track sub-directories as separate sites
I am tracking a blog for a client thats hosted on a subdomain, we decided to give it it's own SEOMoz campaign. My issue is that when entering competitors, if the competing blog is using a sub-directory, SEO Moz won't let me enter it, only the domain. I would assume that there has to be a way to do this, but I don't see it. I need to be able to track the competing blogs as separate from their root domain. mysite: blog.mysite.com their site: theirsite.com/blog (very different from just theirsite.com) Hopefully someone can tell me what to do here because the metrics are basically useless if I am forced to use only the domain. Thanks so much!

Open Site Explorer Page Authority
Hello, I ran a report on my website at http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=www.carrentalbuddy.com.au and noticed my page authority went to 1. I also noticed a lot of our results that were showing high page authority have dropped right down. I checked other sites and they all seemed fine but was wondering if this is a open site explorer issue or a a www.carrentalbuddy.com.au issue? Kindest Regards, Chris

Why aren't DMOZ links showing up in Open Site Explorer?
I have a page that is listed in DMOZ.org, but when I run an OSE Link Analysis, that link doesn't show up. I'm currently doing the free trial for SEOMoz Pro and I'm concerned that other links might not be showing up as well. Has anyone had any similar experiences and/or do you know why DMOZ links specifically might not appear in the results?
