SEO strategy recommendations?

Hi
My website http://www.harrisbassett.co.uk is now ranking on the 1st page of Bing and Google for phrases such as Chartered Accountant Swansea and Tax Planners Swansea
But the phrase 'accountants swansea' is still performing poorly - as it is near the bottom of the second page?
Would I be better placing more accountant swansea phrases on the homepage of the site or would this have an adverse effect on the current 'Chartered Accountants Swansea' ranking as would this be classed as keyword cannabilisation?
So would it be better to further optimise http://www.harrisbassett.co.uk/accounting.htm and include the phrases Accountants Swansea and Auditors Swansea or would this act against the homepage?
Sorry for the questions I am just looking for the best route forward to further boost the ranking on additional terms as the majority of the 1st page listings seem to weak?

What about link building I have been using opensiteexplorer to see what the sites in the top10 results for my targetted search phrase of 'accountants swansea' are listed on and have submitted to some of these directories although not the paid ones which many seem to have done
.But so far I have only built links coming in to the homepage, should I also look and building links to this internal page also with the link anchor if possible being 'accountants swansea'?
Along with directories I would be interested in hearing experts views on link building opportunities for a local accountant - creating widgets etc would not be viable as we dont have the resources to build such tools, articles again would be limited mainly to to time and resourcing constraints.
Any other suggestions that would give the strategy the edge over the current top 10, many of which I am at a loss to explain how they are currently above me in the results - so again if any one can enlighten me I would be very interested in your thoughts

Hi again,
If those are your selected targeted keywords, then yes, that seems like a great structure for a title:
Accountants Swansea | Auditors Swansea or even better for the user experience/search snippet, Accountants & Auditors in Swansea
though minus the 'Harris Bassett Accountants' at the end, it's unnecessary (though opinion differs on that).
Having the company name at the end of each Title is a waste of space in my general opinion, only need them on pages like the Homepage, the About page and Contact page, unless Branding really is a concern across the site. This is because Harriss Bassett is in your domain name, I'd suggest either making use of those extra spare characters in the Title for additional keywords, or leaving it shorter to really focus on the primary keywords
By changing the URLs to include the word Swansea, you really would be just targeting Swansea. If this is fine for the foreseeable future then go for it, just be sure to correctly implement 301 Redirects on the current URL(s) to the new ones and request that your valuable links be changed to point to the new URLs so that none of that link juice is lost through the redirects.
So long as your Contact page has a local Swansea address and landline telephone number, and the word Swansea is in the title of appropriate pages, then it's unlikely you'd need to change the URLs to include 'Swansea', the fewer changes the better, usually.
I'd suggest making sure that your keyword research is spot-on for you and focus on including those keywords in prominent places in your main page copy, without over-doing it.

Simon

Hi Simon
So on the re-focusing of http://www.harrisbassett.co.uk/accounting.htm would the best approach be - have a title of
Accountants Swansea | Auditors Swansea - Harris Bassett Accountants
And then in the copy of the page include around 5 instances of 'accountants swansea' and 'auditors swansea' within the web copy and alt tags. Is it worth re-writing the URL to accountants-auditors-swansea.html ?
If this approach is ok is there anything else that would also help with the strategy?

Hi there
A good question. It seems that you already know the right way forwards; your second option of re-focusing the page http://www.harrisbassett.co.uk/accounting.htm seems like the better option to go for.
Trying to get one page (such as the homepage in the case of your question) to rank for too many terms risks turning that page into a Frankenpage. To explain what that is, check out a fab White Board Friday video here on SEOmoz, entitled "Mapping Keywords to Content for Maximum Impact"
Hope that helps,
Regards
Simon

Filter By Category bad for seo?
Hello Everyone! I know that a single product should not have filter by color option since it will create duplicate content, and you have to use canonical tags to solve it. BUT how about sorting through products via category/brands?
On-Page Optimization | | Safxmed
Filter by category changes the URL of the General shop page (ex: hello.com/Shop/Category1022039 ). This page only displays the products within, no content/ descriptions etc unlike the original category page (ORIGINAL CATEGORY PAGE) Each of these category/brand already have their own individual pages (ex: hello.com/Shop/A). This is the page that will be optimized for content, FAQ, and ranking etc. Unlike in the url created when filtering through the categories. So technically I would have 2 URL for each Brand/Category. Would they compete with each other? What would you guys suggest. Please advise me on this. Thank You0 -
Does using keywords in the top level domain make any difference to SEO rankingsq
i am setting up a new company and I need to register a domain name, is there any advantage to using the full name of the company in the domain name? I know it used to be important but does it still make a difference? If possible I would like to just use say the first letter of each of the 3 words instead what will amount to 23 letters but of it makes a difference then 23 letters it will have to be. Thanks

SEO Optimization for Sales Page
Hi, I am new to eCommerce. Traditionally I have run a couple of semi-successful websites relying largely on Adsense revenue and affiliate income. So I have a bit of experience with on page and off page SEO. This time around I am creating a membership site and also sell eBooks as bundles that non members can buy. My question is, should I SEO optimize the sales page for my eBook or use another content page that links to the sales page. For example, if I am selling an ebook on Dog Training and targeting the main KW "Dog Training Tips", should my sales page be optimized for "Dog Training Tips"? The reason I ask is because typically Sales pages do not provide a lot of useful information but are more geared around selling the product. The other option would be to create a helpful information page targeted for "Dog Training Tips" and lead users to my sales page through contextual links, banners, popups (I hate popups), etc. This would be the approach for the other LSI keywords anyways. Any thought would be appreciated.

Using Escaped Fragments with SEO
Our e-commerce platform is in the process of changing to what we call app based stores (essentially running in a browser as single page web-app) With these new stores they are being built in HTML 5 and using escaped fragments.
On-Page Optimization | | marketing_zoovy.com
Currently merchants are usually running 2 stores until we launch to app site at 100%. My questions are really concerning the app stores which right now show on a subdomain but will essentially take over the primary domain. Here is an example:
app.tikimater.com and app.sportsworld.com Since I am not a developer, I'm really having a hard time understanding the escaped fragments. I'm using this but https://developers.google.com/webmasters/ajax-crawling/docs/getting-started I'm not sure what my actual urls should look like and what the canonical should be set to. Right now they have been removed but previously they had http:app.tikimaster.com#!v=1 Also, and how I should be setting up my meta information for Google so 1) pages are indexed timely 2) pages are indexed with the correct information. I am still setting the meta titles and descriptions but in some instances Google uses other info. With the new platform we are moving away from on page content (written paragraphs) but category pages would have related products embedded. Should I still be pushing to have some type of intro text, since it would solely be for SEO and not the shoppers experience. All product pages have content (product description etc) Thank you for any advice0 -
Best start for int'l SEO?
Hi all We're soon going to begin our international SEO efforts, and I wanted to get some opinions on laying the foundation first. I'm aware of the best, most ideal practices (getting a proper translator, ccTLDs vs subdomains vs folders, etc.) and wanted to know if this would be a good first step: Creating folders by language/country code (does it matter which?) that will have unique copy on the respective page, and targeting those pages to the corresponding country via Google WMT. The nature of our website would require a massive, coordinated effort to translate all of the content, so I was thinking about starting with the homepage for each country and going from there. Is the risk of duplicate content for every new folder too high to chance not translating EVERY bit of content? Thanks for any help or advice!

What is the most recent report you have for "factors" that impact SEO --- you guys had one a few years ago and I don't see a recent report. This was based on a panel of experts I believe.

Modal Windows SEO
The new company site is almost finished, and I've just learned that instead of the home page linking to a few internal pages (it's a tiny site), they are just using modal windows instead of deeper pages. Is that bad for SEO and what can I do to optimize with this setup?

Any SEO effect(s) / impact of Meta No Cache?
Hi SEOMoz Guys, Hope you guys are doing well. I've been searching online and bumped into this archived page (http://www.seomoz.org/qa/view/34982/meta-nocache-affect-ranking). I would like to get an updated take on this issue whether or not the meta no cache code on a page bears negative/positive or no SEO impact / effect. <meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache" /> <meta http-equiv="Cache-Control" content="no-cache"/> Thanks!
