Redirect

A few pages get a lot of external links and rank well (when site:domain.com) but i do not want that those pages rank well (these are blog pages and we are in E-commerce)
Can i redirect these pages to other pages which are more important to me and customers because google see only the link or is google so smart that they see a realtion between the page from which i get the links and to the page in my webste
In that case i rename the old pages.

Richard makes a great point Jan (no surprise there eh?)and it makes me realize that I completely neglected addressing user experience in my answer.
I was assuming that you would redirect to an appropriate page. To give you an example of good and bad (from a users perspective), Let's say you had a page dedicated toa yellow 6 man camping tent. It would be acceptable to redirect that to a page listing all your camping tents especially if the yellow 6 man tent was included among them.
It would not be OK(again, from a users perspective) to redirect that yellow 6 man tent page to a page dedicated to sleeping bags.

Jan,
These are blog post on the same site as your e-commerce site as I am reading this, correct?
I would not 301 the pages, but put internal links within your blog to strengthen those pages you need to rank better. My point is, if your blog post are getting backlinks naturally, then let that process flow, and use that to your advantage.
Keep blogging, and mention products within the blog (or product categories) and link to them. Also any other links, like menus, will receive link juice from those blog post.
I hope that helps

Hi Jan: You can definitely redirect the pagesby using a 301 redirect for the pagesyou desire to swap out.
If you need help with implementing, this SEOmoz guide can help.

Redirect from a previous url
Hi - newbie question I have a customer who's had previous versions of his website. Previously it was known as "princess-interiors.co.uk" (been around for a few years) and is now "princess-design.co.uk" (been around also for a few years). New site is WordPress - what would be the best way to redirect (I have access to the previous version of the site which is still hosted). I expect it's to use 301, but how would I do that (step by step), and does www. versus non-www need addressing (and how). Really concerned, as this site has gone to zero organic visits!! Hoping somebody can help. Thanks

Backlinks that redirect to your site
Hi all, I just wanted to ask you all about backlinks that redirect to your site. I recently used Link Detox Tools to carry out a link analysis. However, some of our backlinks are redirecting to our homepage. Is this ok? Why is this happening? Thanks guys!!!

Domain redirect math?
I’m thinking about buying the domain of a former competitor who is getting out of the business. His site has quite a few links, a healthy link profile from several hundred domains (a few common sites, but mostly different) and a Domain Authority of 44 (mine is a 55). His anchor text portfolio is very appropriate to my business, and the domain contains one of my most important keywords (one that’s in my own domain). His site ranks for a many of the same keywords as mine. Where mine is #3, his might be #4. I don’t want to operate his business (there’s a reason he’s getting out), but I was thinking that redirecting the domain to appropriate pages on mine would give a boost to the many long tail keywords which constitute a considerable part of my business. The question is how much of a boost? How much should I be willing to pay for his domain? If I get x visits/year from organic search and he gets y, and both sites rank for approximately the same terms, how much would you expect the two sites together get? Is there a rule of thumb for calculating this kind of thing involving some kind of logarithmic math? Does the combination of links of similar sites make 1+1=2, <2, or >2? Or is the only way to make this estimate to go through each of the major keywords trying to figure out what will happen to each? If, for instance, on average we combined our #3 & #4 rankings and got a #2 ranking, that would probably increase my clicks by 50% because of their higher SERP prominence. Based on my research, a visitor to my website is worth about $14. Assuming that his natural search visitors would be worth about the same amount if directed to my site, I would probably make 1/2 x * $14/year. I'm least comfortable with the first assumption. Is there a better way to evaluate this?

Automatic Redirect
Good morning to all! Is it normal that I change link and it automatically redirect to the new one? Our links are too long and all have Diani Beach in it what we have done a long time ago as we though it is a good move 🙂 Now I know it is bed so I just opened post and change the permalink and then I open it in new window and instead of Not Found it opens the new link. Can I be doing this?

Redirecting a penalized domain to a new one to remove penalty?
I've got this website that has been hit quite hard by the first Penguin update round. Would it be better to move all my content to another domain and do a 301 redirect? Or should I keep the penalized domain and try to clean up the bad link profile? Also I must say that the website has been hacked last fall and the hacker was able to upload porn stuff in one of the folders. Needless to say, I quickly acquired tons of links from porn and warez. And no, porn and warez has nothing to do with my website's topic. Thank you for your help! Stephane

301 Redirect Domains with old links
I came across a nice discovery of about 20 old domain names that each have many root domains and a bit of DA. I want to know the best way to utilize them without any type of penalty. Currently, (as of an hour ago) I am 301 redirecting all of them to the most relative pages on a single domain. Will i get the majority of the link juice from the domains? I'm excited to see what will happen here. Thanks in advance, Daniel

Are backlinks to a domain that redirects useless?
I am working on trying to get backlinks. We are currently redirecting a few Domains to our current domain name. One of the Domains that is redirecting is the main Domain, we will be advertising in the near future. Can I send backlinks to the redirected URL or does it only carry link juice if it is to the main Domain?
