Migrating to a subdirectory in the same domain
-
Hi!
I have a new version of my website, running with a different CMS (joomla).
In order to install the new CMS while not loosing my all content and links I was forced to install the new site in a subdirectory.
So the old website was http://www.mydomain.com
And the new one is http://www.mydomain.com/subdirectory
I had redirected http://www.mydomain.com to http://www.mydomain.com/subdirectory
but I am not sure if that is correct, or if it will generate SEO problems.
I named the subdirectory with a keyword, at least to have any advantage of something that to my short knowledge looks bad...
What do you think?
Another question...
I understand that it is a good SEO rule to optimize each page for a different keyword.
Is it a problem if http://www.mydomain.com is not optimized for anything?
Thanks!

Now that the new site is ready maybe you can move it out of its set-up directory into the root domain? I'd also set-up 301 redirects so the pages from the old CMS are forwarded to corresponding pages on the new CMS
www.yousite.com/blog/story1 >>301 redirects >> www.yousite.com/news/tech/story1
Is it a problem if http://www.mydomain.com is not optimized for anything?
The root domain is forwarded onto the directory with Joomla install so you can't optimize it for anything. If you keep it like this make sure its a 301 redirect.
Hope this helps.

Multi Domain SSL Certs re HTTPS migration
Hi How important is it that when migrating sites to HTTPS they have their own SSL certificates as opposed to choosing the much cheaper multi domain certificate options such as: https://www.namecheap.com/security/ssl-certificates/comodo/ev-multi-domain.aspx I have been told really should have 1 certificate per domain and people generally unsure about multi domain certsificates ? How About Moving My Site to Another Domain?
My website has been hit by a Google Penguin penalty. At this point, it seems very few websites have recovered from this penalty even after it was lifted. That said, I'm still wondering if I should start a new website or my current one to another domain. When I started my website, I registered the domain name http://www.thewebhostinghero.com A few years later, I bought webhostinghero.com as it became available. Actually, webhostinghero.com redirects traffic to thewebhostinghero.com at the registrar level. There are barely any links pointing to webhostinghero.com. TheWebHostingHero.com is quite a big website with over 1400 pages and some very useful tools (http://www.thewebhostinghero.com/free-tools) that took me so long to develop, I just can't believe I'd have to throw it all out the window. So that said, do you think it would be possible to move all or some of the content from thewebhostinghero.com to webhostinghero.com? Would that make sense? Would webhostinghero.com come out as a copy of thewebhostinghero.com since the domain is similar, etc.? Of course, moving the content from thewebhostinghero.com to webhostinghero.com would have to be done without any 301/302 redirects to avoid passing bad link juice. At the same time, I don't want to end up with duplicate content on both domains.

Multiple domains on the same hosting
Hello, I have around 80 sites (different domains) which are on the same host. Everytime I look up the IP of these domains, it gives me the same IP. The sites are interlinked, all linking to the main domain. My question is: Does the off site link building have effect on the 80 sites?

Vanity Virgin Domains
Hi, I've acquired a vast amount of domains related to my industry over the past 2-3 years. The domains themselves are keyword rich, and likely to be highly searched in their respective terms. Most of the domains are virgin names, some are expired and re-registered names. I can appreciate re-registered names likely retain little value, but I'm wondering, if one was to setup each of the virgin vanity domains as a 301 re-direct, and add the redirected domains as a new submit to google, would there be any keyword relevance, or would this likely be a wasted effort or result in a penalty? I initially registered the domains to protect intellectual property, or prevent others from benefiting from the competitive terms (evil, I know), but I'd like benefiting from them, rather than renew each year and have them site there and do nothing. Thanks!

Can I do a redirect to a new domain name only a couple of weeks after having redirected to another domain?
I have a client with two website with very similar content. Both had a lot of inbound links and performed fairly well in SERPS. We recently combined both sites and have redirected one of the domains to the other. The traffic dipped slightly initially, but is recovering nicely. Now the client registered a new domain name he would like to use for the site. Should I wait a few weeks for everything to settle down after the first redirect/consolidation of sites before doing a new redirect to a new domain name, or should I not worry about having any issues with doing it right away?

Impact of moving all the domain from .net to .com
Hi, We are thinking of moving a domain from a .net extension to a .com because of internal political reason. It's a french website with 3 000 pages. The organic trafic is 65 % from France and 35 % from Canada. We have decent rankings and we have around 150 000 organic visits/month. For sure,if we move the site, we will do all the rigth 301 redirect. We will also use Google Webmaster Tools to tell the new location of the site. But even if we do all the best practices. What would be the impact of changing the extension. Is anyone had some experience with this ? I will really like to have your opinion on this. Thanks Rick

Registering a domain for multiple years
Does registering or renewing a domain name for more than a year improve search as a result of a more trusted site and company that will seem to be around for longer than just a year?
