How to put news on your site from other sources and is it a good idea
-
Hi i have seen this site and have been watching it for some time and really like it. I would like to put news on my site for one topic and would like it displayed like this site does but i am not sure how they do it.
here is the site http://www.topix.com/uk/grimsby
I use joomla so i am not sure you can do exactly what they do where they have so much of the story before being sent over to the main site.
Also i would like to know if this is a good idea or a bad idea as i am thinking this could take away my juice from my site
any advice would be great.

Does not take from your site. This type of feed, to some degree was presumed to bring freshness or keep a site current. Most are in sidebars and I think are likely devalued or irrelevant. (See Alan's comment - there is a reason he does it that way.)
If you want to add something to your site for your visitors and you believe it is relevant to them, do it. Set it where it always opens to a new tab or page so that if they close the feed page they landed on before returning, your page is still on their screen.
As to looking at a site to try to understand it, I can't. I see sites everyday that i have to believe have a purpose...I will never know what it is.

would it take away any of my juice from my site and also would it be a good idea or a bad idea. want people to stay on my site but thinking if i do this then people will leave my site and not come back. in two minds if to do it.
the one thing i cannot understand about the above site is, all they do is have feeds so how do they make money if people are going to jump off their site every two seconds.

You can do this with Joomla using practically any news feed. We use joomla on many client sites and have feeds. With most you can control how much of the feed to show. Many use Feed Burner but there are others that work well.

I have done it many times, i have not noticed any bad results.
I do it with code not wirth a CMS, I believe search engines can see that it is from news feeds or sites.
I use the Bing API to get news from Bing, or consume xml feeds. Some time I just request the webpage containing the news stories and cut out the string containing the stories.

Content from Another Site
Hi there - I have a client that says they'll be "serving content by retrieving it from another URL using loadHTMLFile, performing some manipulations on it, and then pushing the result to the page using saveHTML()." Just wondering what the SEO implications of this will be. Will search engines be able to crawl the retrieved content? Is there a downside (I'm assuming we'll have some duplicate content issues)? Thanks for the help!!

Switching site from http to https. Should I do entire site?
Good morning, As many of you have read, Google seems to have confirmed that they will give a small boost to sites with SSL certificates this morning. So my question is, does that mean we have to switch our entire site to https? Even simple information pages and blog posts? Or will we get credit for the https boost as long as the sensitive parts of our site have it? Anybody know? Thanks in advance.

Content too buried in source code?
Our team is working on a refresh/redesign and am wondering if there's a quantifiable way of determining how high our meta data, H1 and paragraph should be in the source code. Or even whether I should be concerned with that. Our navigation will likely have dozens of links (we're going to keep it to under 100), and this doesn't even factor in the design elements. I am concerned about the content being buried. Are these the kind of concerns I should be having? Is there a measurable way to avoid it?

Redirects in site map
I have a site with the ace/sef ( creates friendly URLS) in a large data base site. It creates a site map dynamically. Yet I realize one issue which I am trying to think through. I recently changed my urls to include an ID number example: homepage/houses/1134-big-blue-house The prior url was: homepage/houses/big-blue-house the original url above redirects to the new one with the ID like I want. However the site map has both URLS in it which go to same page I am not sure but it seems rather stupid to have the new URL and OLD redirected URL in the site map. Yet beside stupid I am wondering if this is duplicate content and will cause a penalty from the google bot. What is your opinion ?

Duplicate Content on Multinational Sites?
Hi SEOmozers Tried finding a solution to this all morning but can't, so just going to spell it out and hope someone can help me! Pretty simple, my client has one site www.domain.com. UK-hosted and targeting the UK market. They want to launch www.domain.us, US-hosted and targeting the US market. They don't want to set up a simple redirect because a) the .com is UK-hosted b) there's a number of regional spelling changes that need to be made However, most of the content on domain.com applies to the US market and they want to copy it onto the new website. Are there ways to get around any duplicate content issues that will arise here? Or is the only answer to simply create completely unique content for the new site? Any help much appreciated! Thanks

Locate your Competitors Traffic Sources -SEO related sources - vs. other sources.
Is there a tool out there that will help you locate your competitors traffic sources? I would like to see how much of their traffic is coming from SEO related sources - vs. other sources. I know compete will do this - but they are ungodly expensive. Thanks!
