Is ranking hurt by slow moving product
-
I sell B2B industrial products. I have 300 products on the site.
Some products are seldom purchased and the brand name is not significant for these products
If the title page is the right wording and length, and there is a valid product widget -1-1-1 but nobody has bought one in 5 years due to it being a niche product, but they could and it's a profitable sale.
Question: Is** overall site rankin**g **being hurt **by valid content ( Description, Part # and Price and it can be checked out in the cart), but is is never/seldom searched for.?

I think you're getting into what Google can know or not know territory; especially if you're dealing with different SKUs. If you're both working the same keyword though, and his CTR is higher that probably will have an effect. The original scenario of 'not much traffic' is different from this though, since you're implying that there is traffic, but it's being split into multiple types. If you're going with 'solid gold widget' and he's got 'plastic widget' and the latter is getting more traffic/clicks, then it may have an effect on the base 'widget' term relevance.

..are they moving 10 a day while you're moving 1 a month?
Thanks for this comment. I am interested in something similar.
Let's say I sell a very high end product that moves slowly but my competitor sells disposable product in great quantity. We both have very satisfied customers.
Do you think that there is any way that Google can see his conversions and promote his rankings above mine because it looks like he has hot product and I do not?

I Agree with Alan. We have a client with relatively slow moving product and they are top 10/top 5 for the majority of their keywords. However something to consider is the competition's space as well; are they moving 10 a day while you're moving 1 a month? If so you might want to examine what they are doing versus what you are doing. The advantage of 'slow' categories is that the competition usually isn't that strong, and there are usually incumbent players who aren't being aggressive with SEO. It might be that if you just do everything 'right' within that category you could get a bit of a bump over others who are relying on being incumbents.

No, that page may not be helped but your site would not be suffering.
The 80/20 rule holds true to almost every business, you make 80% of your money from 20% of your products, and 20% of your money from 80% of your products.
you make 80% of your money from 20% of your customers, and 20% of your money from 80% of your customers.
80% of your customers take 20% of your time, and 20% of your customers take 80% of your time.
If you try to get rid of the 20% that don’t make money on, the 80/20 rule will result on what you have left. If you increase your variety, you will still have the 80/20 rule apply.so rather then get rid of products, you should increase your range.

Static content pages ranking dropping all the time
Hello all. I have been working three months in my current job in the hotel industry. I have been publishing a lot of content to our website (mainly articles), which in general have been ranking well and really boosted our website traffic. The problem that I am facing, though, is the fact that our static pages' rankings are basically constantly dropping. Especially one of our main pages, which is this hotel page. I haven't been doing any real changes to the content, but the ranking (with keywords "hotelli helsinki" [Hotel in Helsinki in Finnish]) has plummeted from 13th position all the way down to 19th... What has been happening during these last three months is that we did change to a new domain and we have done all the redirections and also informed Google about this change through search console. I have also done some minor changes to the on-page content, such as changing the meta titles and descriptions as well as the page title and some of the text content to more natural ones instead of clumsy SEO texts and optimizing the images. This hasn't helped at all though and the rankings seem to steadily drop all the time. What would YOU do with this page? Maybe add more text content to the page to be more informative? All tips would be highly appreciated.

My website ranking recently dropping - why?
Hi all, I am a photographer and do my own website and links etc. Website is: http://www.mckayphotography.com.au I have enjoyed good google rankings for my main keyword 'wedding photography sydney' for many years, and even recovered after taking a hit from the penguin (may 2012) update. But the last month has seen a steady drop from around 2nd - 4th down to now 10th. I have analyzed my site using all the moz tools and on most counts eg moz rank and moz trust I am ahead of my competitor sites....but still rank under them on google. So I would greatly appreciate on advice people could give on getting my ranking back up again! Thanks in advance Darryn

H1 Tags on Volusion Product Pages
So I'm working with a client who has no heading tags on his site and I'm wondering if there is an ideal method to implementing these on the product pages specifically, as the wording I ideally want to specify is is the product title, which i can't really code with an H1. Has anyone run into this issue? If so, what was your solution? Also, how vital are these heading tags on the product pages, anyways? If the Volusion SEO expert could chime in, that would be much appreciated. Thanks everyone!

How often should ecommerce category and product descriptions be rewritten?
We are a 15 year old ecommerce company. Most of our category descriptions are about 3 years old. Our product descriptions are 5-8 years old. While our category pages still rank well in Google our product pages have dropped significantly over time. How often should product page descriptions be rewritten so they do not become stale to Google? We have about 1,000 products on the site. If we rewrite them we are thinking about 250 words each. Thanks.

product links
If you sell a range of products say 3 at the most, all on their own pages, is it ok to link to the other products within the range from each page? I have tried this and it eventually leads back to the same page is this a good, bad or doesn't really matter thing? Also is the anchor text still important?
