Analyzing Back Links - Says site A has back link to Site B but when I look at site B I can't find any back link to Site A. Why?
-
I am new to SEO Moz - It looks like incredible technology. I was playing around with different websites to see where they had back linked to see how it works.
Looked at a site called racingsecretsexposed [dot] come and it said that it had dozens of links to www.ndesignstudio.com such as: ndesign-studio.com/blog/best-wordpress-sites?replytocom=893 with link anchor text "laying horses" but when I do a search for the company name, or the anchor text "laying horses", or the owner of the company's name on ndesignstudio.com - nothing appears.
Why not?
Isn't the back link anchored by the text laying horses, which should link back to the racing secrets website?
Thanks

Scott,
Thanks for sticking with me. That's interesting.
Interesting that I couldn't find it when I used the search bar. But I scrolled through the comments, and did indeed find it.
Thanks so much for your post. Super appreciated.

Hm. I'm trying to figure out what exactly you're talking about.
If you go to this page: http://ndesign-studio.com/blog/best-wordpress-sites and do a search for "Laying horses" there is a link with that anchor text to this page: http://racingsecretsexposed.com/

Scott,
Thanks so much for getting back to me.
The thing is there were about 30 back links to racingsecretsexposed on design-studio.com Are you suggesting that all 30 of those links were erased since OSE last did it's analysis? That seems unlikely, given that usually folks like to keep all their blog posts. I'm assuming that's where the links were. Why would they erase them?
I just spoke with someone who says there is a way to get back links on a site without actually having those links show up on that site-you can only see them through a program like opensiteexplorer but not if you do a google search. Does that sound right? How and why would you do that, and is that kosher or considered a black hat tactic?

There could be a lot of different things going on here... But I think it has to do with the freshness of Open Site Explorer. This webpage my have been changed since the last update to OSE.

What basics should we be looking at in Google Analytics?
We have GA set up on our site for a while now. However, we do not look at the data. We did today and it's quite overwhelming. Is there anything in specific we should start with? A top 3 items we should start to monitor each week and try to improve? Bonus Question: Is there a way to use analytics to find out who are competitors are?

Can anyone explain to me why this website is top of the listings?
Hi folks, Since the latest penguin update, this website: www.sterlingbuild.co.uk is now appearing top of the listings for most 'Velux' related search terms e.g. velux windows, velux, velux windows online. I say top, VELUX themselves are actually top but then Sterling Build are top of all the other retailers that sell VELUX Windows. Why? Their link profile is appalling, the website is no better than their competitors as far as I can tell, their prices are more expensive - it makes no sense? Would be very grateful if anyone can work out why Google has decided they have the best website? Thanks, Luke

How can this website be ranking so well?!
This website: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/domains?site=www.webuycarsyourway.com.au is ranking on page one for about 75% of a list of 300 car related keywords. They don't appear to have done any link building, no social media, appeared out of nowhere in April 2012 and SEMRush reports between 5,000 and 10,000 visitors per month. The only thing I can see is they have a landing page for every keyword with the keyword in the URL. But surely that can't be the only reason they're ranking well ? ?

Do links from a linkdirectory still matter
Hi everyone, I'm checking out some competition for a webshop and i found a website which was quite high in Google for a searchterm, when checking it's backlinks why it was that high in google (His Content was rubbish, so it wasn't that). I only found out that it has loads of linkdirectory links, does this mean it still matters these kind of links, or does it mean the competition is just rubbish? Regards, yannick
