Does a 301 redirect pass along Google +1's from the old url to the new one?
-
When I 301 redirect a page that has content that has been +1'ed by our visitors, I would assume that Google would handle a +1 the same as a link and pass this authority along to the new url. Has anyone had any experience or heard directly from Google confirming this behavior?
-
In my experience 301s will currently mess up your Google +1 Counts, Facebook Like count, Tweets, LinkedIn shares. Typically both myself and clients have learned about this the hard way, after the URL is changed and 301 is redirected.
I have tried to research whether the effect is passed along but have not seen a conclusive answer. This Google Webmaster Central thread from August 2011 has more information on the subject and is worth reading:
How does Google treat +1 against robots.txt, meta noindex or redirected URL:
There is a response from a Google Employee that states:
"Hi,
The +1 Button interacts with robots.txt and other crawler directives in an interesting way. Since +1's can only be applied to public pages, we may visit your page at the time the +1 Button is clicked to verify that it is indeed public. This check ignores crawler directives. This does not, however, impact the behavior of Google web search crawlers and how they interact with your robots.txt file.
The other issue you mention, of redirecting pages, can be resolved using link rel="canonical" elements on your pages.
Cheers,
Jenny"
Her answer seems to point towards some sort of "credit" getting passed along when you use rel="canonical", but that's just my interpretation of what she says.

Redirecting a page loved my Pintrest
Hi all, I'm after some advice on how best to redirect or retain any value a page might have from it's social shares (mainly Pintrest & a little FB). The page's original purpose was to be useful for people and hopefully pass some Google Juice to the main product page. I've created a new website and 301'd the pages to their new home. Now I'm going through my blog and I have a few pages that continue to get pinned around on Pintrest. Not sure the best way to retain the value. I was thinking of recreating the page on the new site and setting up a 301 redirect but I'm not sure if Pintrest follows along. Or maybe leaving the page on the old site and having a link to my main product page there (and it passing some value to the new domain). What do you think? Any other ideas that would be better? The page is: http://www.bringyourownlaptop.com.au/news/indesign-shortcuts-that-will-change-your-life/ The new home is www.byol.com.au. Thanks in advance Moz'ers! Dan

Twitter cards - one account, various domains?
Hi guys, I have a number of events run by the same company, all with their own websites. For a number of reasons, these individual events don't have their own social channels. Instead, the company's main social channels are used to promote the events wherever possible. I want to implement twitter card markup into each of the sites and associate the markup with the company's main twitter account. Does anyone know whether it's possible to get twitter cards approved for one account across multiple domains? I'd hate to apply for one site using the account, only to find out I can't apply for others! So before I venture into the unknown, was hoping someone could shed some light on this. Cheers 🙂

Fetch for Google
Hi there! A short question from Holland: My developers made a mistake with a template on a subpage in Wordpress. When Google crawled my site again, Google found an empty page. The same day we loosed our #1 position on the main keyword and now we are on position #6. We restored the page the same day and asked Google to recrawl the page again (fetch for Google). But 48 hours later nothing changed. When I look in the cache date' the page still has the old date, while my competition has a newer cache date. We send some traffic to the page and did some facebook post on this page. Does anybody knows how to kickstart this page again?

Google & Social
Hi Folks It's been made very clear to us that Google is paying attention to social signals. My questions are: How would I check that Google is aware of my Facebook activity and similarly of my Twitter and Pinterest work? If Google is not aware of these what are some steps I can take to inform them that a particular account is related to a my business site? Finally any must read articles on this topic would be appreciated. Thank you for your time to help me out

Does adding your google plus page help stop scrapping
I have created a site that has 100 percent original content in my business category. I have written over 100 articles myself that not only to help me rank, but most important to help the use find the right anwser to their search. I didn't farm out not one sentence of any of the content. With that said how do I prevent others from scrapping my site for this info and using it as their own. 1. Is there something to add to each page code wise that will lead them back to my site. 2. Does using the google plus help this situation in that google thinks it's yours and treats the others as duplicate content. 3. I dont mind placing this info on other sites as long as the readers know its mine. Sorry to ask such a noob question but I have spent all my time on the content and really know nothing about the coding side of things. Any help would be great. thanks

Find Facebook Likes and Google +1's Across An Entire Domain?
Does anyone know a good way to find the number of Facebook Likes or Google +1's across an entire domain? It looks like SEOMoz only shows these metrics for individual pages.
