SEO Agencies
-
I'm eager to hear peoples experiences both good and bad with SEO Agencies. I have tried many. I'm particularly interested in hearing experiences of types of link building. In my experience many SEO agencies build low quality links, that at least in my view are unlikely to stand the test of time, with one or two expections.

yes..we all make mistakes...I've made many. It's good to learn from them and other peoples.
Thanks..Yes.. I will always test throughly.

Annoying it is... But still, all of us can make mistakes, and although the ideal would be to learn from others mistakes, we still take our owns.
I just hope you will find "the seo agency" you need for your campaign.
Still test-test-test and if I forgot something from that list is.... Test them before signing for long term.

Interesting responses. Thank you. Yes, I can see what you mean. These low quality links do not interest me. I beleive search engines are getting better all the time at discounting them.
I have not really valued toolbar PR as a major factor for valuing a link for a lonng time.
That must be annoying Istvan....No top trusted seed is going to link to junk..or at least highly unlikely

Totally agree. Many clients aspect to gain a lot of links without contributing with content that is really good enough to gain links to.
And if you ask for a better content, then they will just announce that your job is to get links and not to change the content they have (that happened a few times with me, and I really didn't enjoy that).

many SEO agencies build low quality links
For most clients they would have to be magicians to get anything better.

Hi Peter,
Regarding agencies that are only working with link building I have terrible experience. I prefer to do link building with in-house people. This was it is a way easier to check what they are doing and how they acquire the links.
The problem with link building agencies is that they usually don't work on the quantity vs. quality . And although quantity is important, but quality is 1000x more important for me.
There are several SEO agencies that will tell you they will get x number of PRX links. The question is: how will those links affect your visitors? I am always trying to gain links that are win-win situations for both me and the "potential link partner", answering questions such as:
- Does that link provide information, +value for the reader?
- Is that link complementary to the content where it is placed?
- Does the visitor, who reaches our site find what he was looking for through that link?
- Is that link valuable for robots?
I have left robots for the last position since I believe we should add less value to this and give more importance to visitors.
But this is one personal opinion, this is how I try to "make the web a better place".
I hope that helped,
Istvan

When is link building an SEO priority? (vs. something else)
I'm considering hiring an SEO vendor for link building, and assessing whether or not my website really needs link building, vs. another SEO priority (for instance, I KNOW there's an opportunity for local SEO). What factors should I look at to determine if link building is a high priority? Should I just compare the number links my site has with competitors, using a tool like Open Site Explorer?

Blogging to add SEO value to site... recommendations
Hi Mozzers! A client has a high authority website in the travel industry, and needs any and all advantages to get ahead in very competitive keywords. The send out a newsletter bimonthly, but have no blog, so I recommended at the very least, they publish online their emailed newsletters to add informational and relevant content. The question is, for max SEO value, should they... create a blog as a subdomain or subfolder of their existing site? should they self host a blog with a separate domain? or should they simply use a blogger/wordpress.com free blog? Consider that just adding on a blog to their existing site isn't easy. It's some old CMS that's apparently a nightmare to deal with. Plus, branding a WP install to match the site isn't something they want to spend a lot of time on. Your insight is welcome and appreciated!

Is publishing press releases for SEO thorugh newswire sites as effective post panda?
Does anyone have any knowledge/thoughts on how leading newswire sites have been effected by Google's latest updates, i.e. Panda? To date this has been a method (alongside others) I have sucessfully used to build links, but the results of late have not been as good for some clients and I'm beginning to question how effective this is - so I would be very interested to hear anyone else's experiences in this area?

SEO Tool to search mass URLs (for link qualification)
Hi, I have been using OSE and have a compiled list of backlinks to my competitor's sites. The next step would be to go through and qualify all of these links for a link opportunities for my client's site. To save me a lot of time, I require a tool that will search all of these pages (say 1000) for specific keywords in tags or body content. A search query might be - site:(URL list) intitle:directory site:(URL list) "add site" etc Any ideas would be great. Thanks.

How to do SEO for famous fortune 500 companies
Hello SEOmoz, I have a question to you guys. How typically SEO should be done to fortune 500 comnpanies who are very much famous offline. The problem I see is any links built gets attention and media can make a big deal out of it. For eg: The recent JCPenney SEO issue. Though their paid links got them penalized, other traditional methods can also not fit their stratgy. Here are the traditional methods and how it can not be applied to them. Commenting on blogs - Well, it is reputation here. If some one sees a link on blog comments, it might be fishy and can be named as blog spammers. Forum marketing - Same here. The reputation of clients can go down. Paid post / Paid links - Again risky Please suggest how to build link for type of famous clients. Please do not give stratgic level of advice, but be more specific in your answer. For eg: Do this kind of link building and don't do y. etc., Looking forward for ur answers. Thanks
