Is it too late to change an IP from the linking c-block?

My main web development company is linked to many of our clients and our clients link back to us using footer links back. We obviously have a high volume of c-block relations.
If I change my main site's location to a different server will it make any difference or is it too late?

Ryan is absolutely correct.
There are many more ways for Google to recognize the relationship between sites - especially given that the aim is for Googlebot to crawl every page you want accessible on each site. The classic tie between sites is the use of commonly named css files.
I get a sense that your question comes from a concern that the footer links may bring some negative effect upon your site. This is unlikely if you are simply placing a single link in the page footer. Spamming hundreds of links with exact match anchor text in the footer might be a different matter!
As Ryan explained, the reality is that the links just won't provide extra "juice" for your domain.
Funnily enough, we web designers were placing footer links long before the world at large ever heard the terms "SEO" or "link juice". Obviously the reason is that they allow site visitors who are impressed by our work to find out more about us and perhaps engage us to work for them
In my view, this is still a good idea and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. In fact, I would rather a click to our site from a prospective customer who already loves our work than a click from a vaguely interested "SERP browser" any day.
If Google is smart enough to recognize the links between sites, it is also smart enough to know that linking back to a web designer's site makes good marketing sense. After all, it was not us who decided to make links the basic currency of web rankings

There is a lot of speculation regarding how Google evaluates links and determines relationships between a linking site and its target. If you are a web developer and your clients are hosted on one of your servers, I would not make any effort to hide the relationship.
The prevailing thought amongst SEOs is Google understands IPs and therefore its important to not only change the IP address, but to ensure the new IP uses a different C block. This concept is years old and was employed as a first-step measure when Google first tackled the issue of site owners who were manipulating links. I strongly believe Google evolved past the linking C-block idea a long time ago.
Google is a very intelligent and experienced company when it comes to evaluating manipulative links. Here are a few examples of how Google can still determine a relationship exists despite varying your C-block:

when all your clients are hosted on the same server, and they all provide links to your site, the relationship is pretty obvious.

Google can ignore the IP addresses entirely and examine the nameservers. Many site owners use "SEO hosting" where they have one server with various IPs. The site owner specifically requests their IPs to use various C-blocks thinking Google wont recognize they are all using the same nameserver.

there are numerous other ways Google can relate sites. A specific combination of software is one example. Perhaps all the sites you develop are Joomla 1.7 with a certain combination of extensions. Perhaps you install a specific custom-created script or widget.
The bottom line is footer links are the least valuable type of link. You can expect Google to recognize the link and offer it some minimal value. There is not likely any significant improvement to the link's value by varying the IP. If you desire more traffic I would suggest creating code to solve a problem no one else has tackled. You can then earn authentic links from a variety of sources and be far ahead of the game.

Blogspot blog is subdomain, but domain is changing - How will this affect backlinks?
Hi Moz community, I appreciate the title is confusing, so let me explain. We use blogspot to host our blog. It's set up as a subdomain of our website. Let's call it: lovelyblog.lovelytraining.com Our website, in this example, is **lovelytraining.com ** We're migrating our website to a new domain: lovely.training We'll be redirecting everything on the primary website, so our link profile won't be lost. However, as the blog is hosted on blogspot, we'll lose links pointed to the blog. The blog would remain lovelyblog.lovelytraining.com - but our website would now be lovely.training The question is, has anyone migrated/redirected a blogspot blog in this way, to retain links? Secondly, is there another way we can tell Google that this is blog should be treated as a subdomain of our website? I'm sure I'm missing out something stupid, so don't go easy on me! Thanks all.

Anything wrong in linking to homepage from all sub domain pages?
Hi, We have 6 sub domains which are forums, guides, etc. They have their own visitors for the related queries. We are planning to divert some of them to the website to promote our product with latest content. We are planning to add a link from every page of sub domain to our website homepage. This makes additional thousands of internal links flowing to website homepage. Will this kind of internal linking structure hurts? Any risks involved? Thanks

How would a redesign, content update and URL change affect ranking?
Hi guys, I have a question that I suspect there is no simple true or false answer to, but perhaps someone has done the same thing as we're pondering wether or not to do? We're taking over an existing site that ranks very well on all the important keywords and is obviously very well liked by Google. The site is today hosted on a sub-domain (xxx.domain.com). When taking over, we'll have to redesign the site and recreate most of the content on the site (unique). The site structure, URLs, incoming links etc. will remain exactly the same. Since we are recreating the site, we also have the opportunity to move the site off the sub-domain and on to the main domain (domain.com/xxx - 85/100 Moz rank) and do a 301 Permanent Redirect on all old URLs. Our long-time experience is that content on the main domain, ranks way better than the sub-domain. The big question is wether or not Google will punish us for both changing the content and the location of the site at the same time? Cheers!

What is the difference between a bunch of microsites and a link network?
Hello SEO community. I have started an online marketing company that focuses on a specific niche and have been researching how micro sites can be beneficial for SEO. For example the "Nifty" presentation mentioned how micro sites are going to be key for local seo. However I have also heard that link networks are increasingly bad and are penalized by the Panda updated. While we are writing good, original content for our clients, I like the microsites because: URL - we can choose urls for the main keywords Content Focus - we can focus on specific content Ranking - these sites seem to rank pretty well Citations - we are able to give citations for our clients from these sites But am I worried, am I creating a link network? Even thought I am putting out useful, good content, is this more hurting me than helping me? Should I give up on this strategy or continue? Help!

Does Google take email server IP blacklists into account?
This is just a hypothetical, but would Google use information from email server blacklists to determine the quality of a website? The reason is that we're planning to code in an e-mail queuing system for our next CMS, and we would put SPF and DKIM in place. We wouldn't be sending any bulk e-mails (we use Constant Contact for this), but we might be sending personalised follow up e-mails, unpaid order emails and that sort of thing. There's no reason to think we'll be blacklisted, but from experience I know that these email blacklist directories quite often give false positives when an e-mail server is incorrectly configured. So the risk is that we might get blacklisted by mistake when we start using this new feature. Would Google take this into account as part of the algorithm? And if so, would the damage be permanent? (I.e. does getting removed from the blacklist mean Google will stop thinking we're a low quality / spammy site)

Homepage Menu Change
For the site I work on we would like to make a change on the homepage from having categories on the left nav to a meta menu on the top nav. The reason we are doing this is an attempt to both make finding products better for the customer and we feel it is more aesthetically pleasing. Could this negatively affect our SEO and ranking even if we use the exact same links? Are there any other negative repercussions you feel could come from this? Thanks for any help!
