Pay on Organic Search Results
-
Are there companies out there that accept payment on the results they get for organic search listings? I have a site that I want to be number 1 for two terms on Google UK and .com and I while I dont think it will take much effort I would like to find a decent SEO company or person that can do this and be paid for the result.
What do people think?

I dont think it will take much effort
I think that all of the time and then I find out that those guys are really smart and very hard to beat.
Probably RyanKent is the SEO for the guys I am trying to beat... I think it would be pretty expensive to beat him, might take a very long time, and a lot of work and maybe impossible.
Now imagine that you are talking about the same keywords that RyanKent and I are fighting over. Do you think it will be cheap to beat both of us working really hard to beat each other?
This is why smart SEOs don't work for somebody who says... "I'll pay when you get me #1".
================================
Now imagine second situation... You say "I'll pay when you get me #1" and I take the job and hit the site with a big ton of links and you pay me... then I yank the links.
This is why smart website owners should not say... "I'll pay when you get me #1"

Have you considered online advertising? That can get your ad to appear above organic search listings. There's no replacement for good old fashioned link building and quality content, but that's one way you can get your name out there quickly and easily. It could turn out to be less expensive than the time and money you'd spend find and working with an SEO company (it would depend on the queries you're targeting).

No one can guarantee a number one ranking. Some companies offer various "guarantees" but they often are vague in some areas or they offer the company an opportunity to improve rankings and if they fail the client receives their money back.
Here's the challenge for you. Many good SEOs have a full client load. They have an established history and can charge based on their time. There is no need to engage is any arrangements where profits are split or other types of pay-for-results type of contracts.
If you wish to pay for a ranking, then the pay would be substantially higher then normal SEO rates. The normal format of such an arrangement would be you pay the agreed upon rate for the work, then offer a bonus for achieving the #1 ranking.
With the above understood, it is rarely a good deal for the client to engage is such arrangements. Your interest is PROFIT, or at the very least conversions, not ranking. Some issues which may occur: you rank #1 for a low traffic keyword, you rank well for a keyword which does not convert well, your listing is not optimized for click through rate, etc.
SEO is a comprehensive process which involves all aspects of your site and business. The goal of SEO is likely to increase your company's profitability. That should be the focus of a good SEO campaign. If you are targeting specific metrics like ranking, PR, CTR, conversion rate, traffic, etc. you are likely missing out on major factors which influence your profitability.

Any reputable SEO company wouldn't do this. Becoming #1 takes time and effort...if it doesn't take much effort from your perspective why not just do it yourself?
Someone who might take this challenge up will most likely linkspam your site all over the place and possibly get you dinged or removed in a few short months from a SE's index.
There is no such thing as a free lunch.

Canonical URL on search result pages
Hi there, Our company sells educational videos to Nurses via subscription. I've been looking at their video search results page:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | 9868john
http://www.nursesfornurses.com.au/cpd When you click on a category, the URL appears like this:
http://www.nursesfornurses.com.au/cpd?view=category&cat=9&name=Acute+Surgical+Nursing
http://www.nursesfornurses.com.au/cpd?view=category&cat=6&name=Medications Would this be an instance where i'd use the canonical tag to redirect each search results page? Bearing in mind the /cpd page is under /Nursing cpd, and that /Nursing cpd is our best performing page in search engines, would it be better to refer it to the 'Nursing CPD' rather than 'CPD' page? Any advice is very welcome,
Thanks,

Local and Organic Listings
Hi, My client has a number of stores across the country (UK) and ideally I would like them to appear in both the local and organic listings - at the moment I appear more often than not on page one for one or the other - I have noticed however that some pages appear in both. I understand that Google will not place a listing for the same page in both local and organic so I need to optimise a page on the site for organic and point my local listing to a different page (home page?). On some results though I am seeing my local result appearing with the home page URL listed but the actual link points to the internal store page which is the same page that is appearing in the organic listing (both on page one). Other local listings of mine appear with the store page URL showing in the result. I haven't set anything up differently for these stores. Can anyone explain why this is happening? Thanks, Dan

Why does my home page show up in search results instead of my target page for a specific keyword?
I am using Wordpress and am targeting a specific keyword..and am using Yoast SEO if that question comes up.. and I am at 100% as far as what they recommend for on page optimization. The target html page is a "POST" and not a "Page" using Wordpress definitions. Also, I am using this Pinterest style theme here http://pinclone.net/demo/ - which makes the post a sort of "pop-up" - but I started with a different theme and the results below were always the case..so I don't know if that is a factor or not. (I promise .. this is not a clever spammy attempt to promote their theme - in fact parts of it don't even work for me yet so I would not recommend it just yet...) I DO show up on the first page for my keyword.. however.. instead of Google showing the page www.mywebsite.com/this-is-my-targeted-keyword-page.htm Google shows www.mywebsite.com in the results instead. The problem being - if the traffic goes only to my home page.. they will be less likely to stay if they dont find what they want immediately and have to search for it.. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Best way to block a search engine from crawling a link?
If we have one page on our site that is is only linked to by one other page, what is the best way to block crawler access to that page? I know we could set the link to "nofollow" and that would prevent the crawler from passing any authority, and we can set the page to "noindex" to prevent it from appearing in search results, but what is the best way to prevent the crawler from accessing that one link?
