I NEED ADVICE: Need Web Software for customers to access backend
-
I have a prospect in the credit repair industry. Does anybody know of some software where the clients can log into their own accounts to see the progress?
The feature I am looking for is like a Real Estate website where the brokers can create their own accounts and upload their own properties.

I'm not a Wordpress expert, but theoretically any CMS that supports user accounts and permissions can do this, and the rest would configuration/custom development.
Would the information mostly be files/data from other sources (e.g. spreadsheets and word documents)? You might be able to get away with an FTP/SFTP solution if that's the case.
If actual information (e.g. from your own database) and interaction is needed then you're definitely going to have to do something custom; I don't think there's an 'out of the box' solution that will do what you want. The amount of work involved would be relatively small though I'm guessing, probably 3-4 days for a good programmer depending on the platform/database/desired functionality.
Speaking personally, I wouldn't be a fan of Wordpress for a financial application, it just seems like every quarter there's a new exploit. Another thing to watch out for is your hosting; when I'm doing PCI upgrades/certification/audits shared/virtual hosting can be something of a pain to work around. I don't know if the applicable standard for your task would be more or less strict.

I'm thinking O would have them pull the file like through a web connect (like my quickbooks) or they import the file using a spreadsheet once per month. Yes, compliance can be a big thing. Thank you for sharing your input.

Francisco, you've probably thought about this, but be sure to look at all of the banking rules about privacy and sharing of information as you build this. When I worked at an agency, I remember how it would take weeks of turnaround to get a simple banner ad approved, as all of the wording had to go through legal, and how resistant another bank was to even install Google Analytics on some of their https pages.
I'm taking my experiences there and thinking there must be a lot of rules regarding how a site is to be secured so that type of information isn't hacked, how to ensure proper information displays for each level of person accessing the system, etc. Cost of compliance may be something to consider, and I don't know if WP would be quite compliant enough out of the box.

Basically the site will be built from the ground up, of course using a CMS. The owner would give access to subscribers. It is a credit management service. Currently the owner of the company gets referrals from the banks for people who were turned down for a mortgage or something large. These people/clients will need to get their credit repaired.
All information will be on the subscribers dashboard in their respective accounts. Banking information will be pulled from banks accounts and FICO scores will be pulled from credit reporting agencies. There would be target goals to get a FICO score above a certain goal amount.
I primarily use WordPress and Magento. I have seldom used Joomla and Drupal, but I am familiar with them. Although I have used WordPress many times, I have never heard of any plugin that can create a backend for subscribers. I can't think of anything that is out of the box. The cost of having custom program applications may be too expensive for the prospective client.
@Ryan, You say "This functionality is offered with most any CMS.". Are you saying that WP has a feature where a paying subscriber can have their own account? I have that in Magento, but it's more about tracking packages, orders, subscriptions. I guess it may work in Magento, but I would have to hack everything. Is there something a little more out of the box?
Thanks guys. I always try helping people in this Q&A forum. Good to know there are pros here, not all beginners.

I agree with Valery.
I would also request more details about the nature of how the site will be used. It sounds like the site owner wishes to upload content (credit reports, etc) then restrict access so only specified users (i.e. the client, the client's employees, etc) would have access to the content. This functionality is offered with most any CMS.
If something further is required, we would need to see something along the lines of a Requirements Document to offer better feedback.

It really depends on the underlying architecture. If you're using a custom developed solution (e.g. in .net or .php or the like) then you'd likely have to also create a matching interface for author/editor access.
Some CMS solutions like Joomla, Wordpress, Drupal etc. have pretty robust back end controls that you can control access to, create accounts, etc. But each of them have their own foibles. I think to get a real answer we'd need to know how things are set up on the backend. For example, is it database driven? What kind of database? What language is the site developed in? That sort of thing.

Looking for live web examples of Medical schema
Has anyone seen a hospital system or medical clinic properly employ schema markup to their sites? This seems like very new territory, and we want to do it right by our client. Are there any best practices I need to look out for?

Drupal Domain Access SEO Issues
I'm working with a new developer to redesign several Drupal sites and have 3-4 sites with similar designs and modules. The developer is keen on using Drupal Domain Access to make maintenance and sharing user information easier. Each site currently has a unique domain and content (although the sites are in related niches). Are there issues from an SEO perspective with the Drupal Domain Access Module? With only one instance of Drupal on the backend will Google somehow not view these as independent sites? Thanks for any info!

Lots of Listing Pages with Thin Content on Real Estate Web Site-Best to Set them to No-Index?
Greetings Moz Community: As a commercial real estate broker in Manhattan I run a web site with over 600 pages. Basically the pages are organized in the following categories: 1. Neighborhoods (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/neighborhoods/midtown-manhattan) 25 PAGES Low bounce rate 2. Types of Space (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/commercial-space/loft-space)
Web Design | | Kingalan1
15 PAGES Low bounce rate. 3. Blog (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/blog/how-long-does-leasing-process-take
30 PAGES Medium/high bounce rate 4. Services (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/brokerage-services/relocate-to-new-office-space) High bounce rate
3 PAGES 5. About Us (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/about-us/what-we-do
4 PAGES High bounce rate 6. Listings (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/listings/305-fifth-avenue-office-suite-1340sf)
300 PAGES High bounce rate (65%), thin content 7. Buildings (Example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/928-broadway
300 PAGES Very high bounce rate (exceeding 75%) Most of the listing pages do not have more than 100 words. My SEO firm is advising me to set them "No-Index, Follow". They believe the thin content could be hurting me. Is this an acceptable strategy? I am concerned that when Google detects 300 pages set to "No-Follow" they could interpret this as the site seeking to hide something and penalize us. Also, the building pages have a low click thru rate. Would it make sense to set them to "No-Follow" as well? Basically, would it increase authority in Google's eyes if we set pages that have thin content and/or low click thru rates to "No-Follow"? Any harm in doing this for about half the pages on the site? I might add that while I don't suffer from any manual penalty volume has gone down substantially in the last month. We upgraded the site in early June and somehow 175 pages were submitted to Google that should not have been indexed. A removal request has been made for those pages. Prior to that we were hit by Panda in April 2012 with search volume dropping from about 7,000 per month to 3,000 per month. Volume had increased back to 4,500 by April this year only to start tanking again. It was down to 3,600 in June. About 30 toxic links were removed in late April and a disavow file was submitted with Google in late April for removal of links from 80 toxic domains. Thanks in advance for your responses!! Alan0 -
Need to rebuild client's flash website
I am working with their web designer and need to figure out a way to rebuild their site which is currently all in flash. I was wondering if there was a way to do this without spending a ton of time in completely re-doing the site from scratch.

I need to buy a website template - anyone knows a good place to buy it? where you should buy one template?
I used the www.templatemonster.com or http://themeforest.net/, but is difficult to find a template with a focus on SEO. Also with the necessity to include text in the beginning of the website, is difficulty to found something really good.

Finally have a budget for a great seo ecommerce site but need help choosing wordpress, joomla, modx, magneto or? Thank you in advance for your generosity of time
We finally have a budget and want to dump our intuit/homestead site www.originalartbroker.com Our budget is 5k-10k but could do more if needed. I am slowly catching my competition with this homestead site that I built. But I do realize it is time to step back, figure out what is best, and hire a pro to get the job done. I am green in the seo and web development arena so please go easy on me and please help to point me in the right direction. Just went out on a limb a couple years ago playing with homestead.com site software and built what we have today. Didn't know anything about website development...it sort of just happened. I feel and know that homestead.com solution is hindering what we could be doing due to the bloated nature of the site and inability to perform such task as 301 redirects etc.... I have been able to slowly attain first page seo rankings on keywords based of the artists we carry using this po-dunk homestead platform to build my site after a ton of work education thanks to seomoz and a lot of you. But, have never asked for help and could really use some generosity of time in explaining a solution that would work best for our business. Do we just go with a wordpress site that is similar to our current setup and use their plugins? Do we use a cms software solution like magneto or joomla? We will only have 200-300 pieces at any given time. We are constantly selling and buying new pieces providing us content. We are need of a site that can perform well in terms of seo. I have heard of a lot of people talking about joomla, wordpress, and magneto. Would like to be able to have a product catalogue that ultimately sends whatever inventory we are uploading to our social sites and blogs so I don’t have to pump the product out to all of these sites. We offer free custom framing with our pieces and it would be nice to have a program that could wrap the photos of the pieces with the different frames for our customers. When I add a new piece I would like this software to have a predesigned product page that it plugs the information into. I would like it to create the url extension based of the artists name, medium used, and piece name to create unique and individual urls. I would like it to also create its own H tags throughout that product page according to the artist name description, and medium used. I would like to be able to sink this up to google merchant and other sites to carry our product. Bottom line is we sell art. We sell pieces by specific artists. We are constantly buying and selling. I need something powerful that keeps up with our content

Setup of three major retail sites.. need advice.
I recently have taken a new position responsible for three large national retail sites which are all owned by one parent organization. Through a series of acquisitions, these three major brands have been brought under one umbrella and a brand consolidation is likely not to happen within the next 2-4 years. I have a number of questions I’m hoping to get some feedback on, but first a little more background is necessary. A year ago (before my time) the three sites were over-hauled, but were designed to use one common custom CMS and all of the navigation and nearly all the content is the same (with some exceptions, such as tags, url, etc.). All of the brands have identical products and services; however, each one services a different demographic in the US. The design was intended for ease of management, but is terrible for seo. Additionally, without the geographic reference, they all compete for the same keywords. They have now begun a very large ecommerce project utilizing an ATG platform. The initial direction is to use one platform for all three brands, but keep them on separate domains and with the use of basic switching, replace nominal content such as logos and references of the brands for each of the domains. I’m concerned with this approach and would like to hear your feedback.. When optimizing a page for one keyword set, are they likely to be filtered due to dup content? The argument that management has is that all three current sites rank very well for one keyword on all three sites. They feel it won’t be an issue due to this. One option, that is currently still available, is to tri-band one ecommerce site, but it would have to be on an entirely new domain. The other three domains are very well established and are PR6s. Management, and even I, is afraid to abandon these other domains, but having a single domain would allow us to have unique content and really leverage all efforts to one domain. Thoughts? Any knowledge or thoughts what kind of impact having three domains on one ATG platform will be? Thanks much! John If you feel it will help, please message me and I can share the urls... Also, how would you handle a company blog in this case?
