Brand new domain with a lot of old links.

So I just bought http://penny-auctions.co/ a couple of days ago, ignore the fact it's not set up yet and generally just a mess, and something kept bugging me about why the domain authority kept showing as 25 in the SEOmoz toolbar.
Now initially I'd set it up as www. and with the trailing slash so the PA was 1, however after a bit of exploration it seems that someone has been building links to the non-www version of the domain for at least a year!
The site has never been owned before so I've now made the non-www version the default and have a 5 day old site with PA 35 and DA 25!
SEOmoz shows PA - 45 links, 20 domains and DA - 341 links, 113 domains.
Majestic Historic - 8598 links, 236 domains and Fresh - 160 links, 62 domains.
Brilliant! Except they're all spamtastic.
What do you think this will do for my future attempts at ranking?
Should I create pages that have links to them or just 301 them?

The FTC? Oh you crazy Americans
Yeah, might all go south, but meh, get nothing if you don't try : )
I'm just being an affiliate, not going to run one (even though there's a billion scripts to do so).

Based on what I've seen of how other penny auction sites work the spammy links probably aren't even going to hurt you. Being lumped into the penny auction category probably will, but that's another matter. Check out the backlink profile on domains like Zeekler, QuiBids,zBiddy, etc. and you'll probably see far worse. The majority of these operations make their cash through affiliate signups, which means a lot of relatively low value affiliate links as well (Zeekler especially has Google bombed every 'Zeekler + phrase' search result). You could probably stand out by doing 'good old fashioned seo' on it, I think Bidz.com is trying to go this route and they're one of the bigs.
Personal opinion here, not criticizing you: I think the penny is going to drop on these penny auction sites soon. The FTC hasn't said they're legal, hasn't said they're illegal, just that they're not covered by current laws, and the legislation may soon change to take care of that.

That's never going to happen, too many on clearly unmoderated sites.
If I was spamming myself (not that I'd ever advocate such behaviour) I'd just have kept up the velocity until I broke through but the fact they're a year or more old makes me wonder...
I'll probably sort the site out properly, add a bit of decent content and then decide whether to hammer it with more spam and/or build some decent links

If they weren't spammy links I'd say damn, you struck some SEO gold. That they're spammy, however, makes me think you're going to have a helluva time trying to pull rank. IMO It'd be worth the effort trying to get the backlinks removed.

980 links from 75 domains and Graded "A" on Moz Page Grader-- still not ranking for our term. Thoughts?
A few additional interesting details: A blog post we wrote with the same keyword ranks 8, but this page does not crack the top 20. Crazy competitive term-- top SERP are from HBR, Entrepreneur and Inc. We use Instapage as landing page builder-- could this effect our rankings? URL is not a subdomain Pretty stumped over here. Thanks y'all!

Why would a domain show up in Webmaster Tools but not latest links?
I am going through links and trying to figure out what to disavow. I found a domain under "Who links the Most" I wanted to see what the exact link was and I can't find it when I download all links. Why would that be?

"Starting Over" With A New Domain & 301 Redirect
Hello, SEO Gurus. A client of mine appears to have been hit on a non-manual/algorithm penalty. The penalty appears to be Penguin-like, and the client never received any message (not that that means it wasn't manual). Prior to my working with her, she engaged in all kinds of SEO fornication: spammy links on link farms, shoddy article marketing, blog comment spam -- you name it. There are simply too many tens of thousands of these links to have removed. I've done some disavowal, but again, so much of the link work is spam. She is about to launch a new site, and I am tempted to simply encourage her to buy a new domain and start over. She competes in a niche B2B sector, so it is not terribly competitive, and with solid content and link earning, I think she'd be ok. Here's my question: If we were to 301 the old website to the new one, would the flow of page rank outperform any penalty associated with the site? (The old domain only has a PR of 2). Anyone like my idea of starting over, rather than trying to "recover?" I thank you all in advance for your time and attention. I don't take it for granted.

Does the number of links on a page metric include repeated links?
Just wondering if the number of links on the page metric includes links that are repeated? So, if I had 100 links to one page would this count as 100 or 1 link?

Redirect on exact match domain to Brand domain question :)
Hi, If I have a website with the domain crazysocks.co.uk and a title tag 'black socks' would I see any benefit redirecting blacksocks.co.uk to crazysocks.co.uk, to give my keyword 'black socks' a boost in the SE's from the EMD. I see it loads where an EMD is indexed for its term but when you click the result it redirects to a branded domain. I personally cant see this being true but wanted to double check.

Keyword Rich Domain Redirects to Brand Name But How Will SEO Work For It?
If i have a keyword rich domain name, but i redirect it to a brand domain name, will doing seo for the keyword rich domain name be effective in showing up on google under that domain, for the keyword i do SEO for? or does this cause a conflict for spiders/robots as soon as they realize the page they want to check out is getting redirected to another domain name?
