Researching Backlinks from Distinct C-Classes
-
I'm looking to do some competitive research on the top ranking sites in my niche. How can I get a list of the number of backlinks that come from distinct C-Class IP addresses? I don't see this anywhere in the OSE data. Thanks.
-
Import the data into Advanced Link Manager and sort by IP address
-
I guess to get what I need I'm going to have to roll my own solution. Would anyone else be interested if I made it publicly available?
-
This tool lets you compare 2 domains to identify if they are on the same c-class, may be of help
-
I was hoping for a tool that does this. The IP of a domain is easy to find so counting distinct C and B classes shouldn't be that hard to do.
-
You could try a reverse DNS lookup on each unique domain

What's a good way to get started with competitive research?
Hi all, SEO noob here. I'm doing an audit for a firm that makes specialized accounting software. It's a relatively new firm, with a barebones website. My client has identified three direct business competitors. In addition, I see indirect competitors (such as product reviews) on the SERP for a relevant keyword phrase. I want to provide actionable advice for my client. What information should I present? I'd like to help my client understand: Why my client's competitors are outperforming them on the SERPs What my client needs to do to overtake their competitors What information should I present to my client? Thanks, all.

Best of the Web Still Prime Backlink Real Estate
Hello, I was doing competitive research and our top competitor has a clean backlink profile that includes the Best Of The Web directory. The top people on this Q&A used to recommend them and DMOZ for the only true good directory links. Is this still true or is Best Of The Web less important now? We only are listed in a small handful of directories, and not anything recent besides DMOZ. Thanks, Bob

Best type of backlinks... Right? What do you think?
I was just thinking... wouldn't the best types of backlinks for any small local business be from "their own competitors" ? Weird, I know... but it would NOT get any more relevant than that. I mean wouldn't an Italian restaurant in New York gain credibility and higher ranks on SE's if "other" 'Italian restaurants in New York' linked back to them? Problem... yeap! It would be really hard to convince your "competition" to link back to ya! no matter how good your content piece is! Thoughts?

Is it possible to create "hidden" backlinks?
Don't miss interpret this... I DON'T mean hidden backlinks that you would stick on a page using html/css. What I am trying to figure out is if it's possible to create backlinks from sites that aren't visible by crawlers or SEO tools like Moz?... Does that make sense? Another words, let's say I place a visible/genuine/follow backlink to any external website from my blog. Is there a way to keep crawlers like Moz or other SEO tools from "seeing it"?

C Block Links in Open Explorer
Hi there, Wondering if anyone can help me with understanding the advanced reports in Open Explorer. I'm looking to create a list of competitors links to go after but don't want to create loads of links from the same c blocks for blog posts, articles etc. In open explorer it says my competitor has 451 linking C Blocks but when i download csv's using advanced reports with the filter of 'links that come from the same C block', the csv only has 26 links. The same happened with the filter 'from the same ip address'. How can i download and analyse the links so I can see all the linking C blocks and know which sites I want to use and which ones I want to avoid? Thanks, Ross

How do I go about removing low authority, crappy, backlinks?
How do I go about getting rubbish backlinks on a clients websites removed? The links were created by a previous companies link building campaign, and I believe this (along with a few other things) could be the reason for their poor SERP's as they are an established website. Can I alert Google and get them to discredit the links, or do I manually have to try to make contact with the owners/webmasters of the websites to get the links removed? All help appreciated! Thanks
