Multiple site in one? Recommendations?
-
I have 2 companies that essential do the same thing. They have different names and different domain names. One is a USA company and the other is a South American Company.
My intnent was to create a single site with both english and spanish content and then create a english home page and a spanish homepage. I was hoping to direct the spanish domain name to the spanish homepage and the english to the english homepage.
This way I will only have one site to maintain - one ecommerce site to maintain and can direct teh links to a single site - although they will essentially be kinda different.
My question is... what are the pluses and minuses of doing this? Would I better creating 2 separate sites? is there going to be an issue with google maybe seeing duplicate content although the pages are seperate for each language?
Any other considerations that I just wasnt smart enough to think of?

Then you get to double your workload. Two domains, two shopping carts, different and unique product descriptions and titles.
Depending how just how talented your it/dev staff is, you 'could' serve the entire product line from a single database to both domains. We've done that in the past on a few projects. but it requires someone that knows what they are doing to get it right.

the main problem is that the companies have differnt name and therefore different domain names, but will both point to the same site, but different landing page. The content is different on both sites (one spanish and one english).

If the content is identical the issue is more of a multiple language and duplicate content issue than a location issue. The only time I would consider unique websites is when you offer different products to different locations.
The biggest pros are that you can build and maintain just one website and point all of your marketing at a single domain. This has the side benefit of having each language support the other through your internal linking. If you do 100% of your SEO/link building in English you will still get some carry over to the Spanish side because of this, and vice versa.
By having a single domain with an /en and a /sp (or whatever) folder you won't have to worry about Google being confused since they handle that fairly well. They handle en.domain.com and sp.domain.com slightly less well.
There are some very minor cons, but not enough to worry about IMO.

Mobile site backlinks?
Hello, Our mobile site redirects to desktop in a desktop browser and vice versa; however, they are different sites. This said, shouldn't the backlinks for our mobile site be the same as for our desktop site since one redirects to the other. We show no backlinks in my analysis? Any help or insight would be extremely appreciated! Thank you!

2 accounts or one
I have accidently made my clients website into 2 websites. originally the site had a wordpress blog.... ie www.xxx.com/blog I gave the blog a name and attached a domain to it by creating a addon domain. So the address is now www.yyy.com instead of /blog The site is for an accommodation provider and the blog is more travel advice and location specific activites and places etc. what i would like to know: 1. Am I better off reverting back to /blog? 2. Am I better off with 2 distinct websites? 3. How would I have a 2nd domain on the blog without chopping my website into 2?. thanks!!!...

Site Navigation
Hello, I have some questions about best practices with site navigation & internal linking. I'm currently assisting aplossoftware.com with its navigation. The site has about 200 pages total. They currently have a very sparse header with a lot of links in the footer. The three most important keywords they want to rank for are nonprofit accounting software, church accounting software and file 990 online. 1. What are your thoughts about including a drop down menu in the header for the different products? (they have 3 main products). This would allow us to include a few more links in the header and give more real estate to include full keywords in anchor text. 2. They have a good blog with content that gets regularly updated. Currently it's linked in the footer and gets a tiny amount of visits. What are your thoughts about including it as a link in the header instead? 3. What are best practices with using (or not using) no follow with site navigation and footer links? How about with links to social media pages like Facebook/Twitter? Any other thoughts/ideas about the site navigation for this site (www.aplossoftware.com) would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If you are organizing the site structure for an ecommerce site, how would you do it?
Should you use not use slashes and use all dashes or use just a few slashes and the rest with dashes? For example, domain.com/category/brand/product-color-etc OR domain.com/anythinghere-color-dimensions-etc Which structure would you rather go for and why?
