Keyword Canabalisation and my solution
-
Hi.
According to one guy, in this thread: http://www.seomoz.org/q/good-seo-titles, the Meta Title, H1 Tag Title on the product page, and the category listing pages should be different to avoid keyword canabilisation.
One problem I noticed in my website after reading about this topic, is that all my printers have the keyword sentence :"refurbished printer", yes 99% of the products are refurbished but in that way according to the answer in the above post I am competing against self, too many pages (1000) with the same keywords on it.
So I decided to make some changes and I I would like to know the opinion of the experts here, I did this only for one product, then I would of course need to this for lots of products.
1. I created a different meta title. check here please
http://www.theprinterdepo.com/hp-color-laserjet-cp2025n-printer-new
2. In the product page itself, I removed the condition from the name of the product, instead I put the template, NAME - MODEL -CONDITION.
3. In the category listing page I havent made any change yet, it still shows the product name only
http://www.theprinterdepo.com/new-printers/color-laser-new-printers
Check 1st row, 4th column.
Is this a good approach?

You mentioned wanting to appear for these variations:
hp cp2025n
cp2025n printer
hp cp20205n printer
or just cp2025n
Why not add them into H2 tags within the same product page, so that you cover each? Just a suggestion.
One H2 could be "Why the HP CP2025n?", another could be "HP CP2025n Printer Product Specs", etc.
-
Can you please explain further, you meant to set the entire PRODUCT DESCRIPTION as an h2? or specific parts? keywords only?
-
Sounds like an excellent opportunity to use some h2's within the description, don't you agree?
In terms of worrying about Google picking up a product page instead of your category or keyword-themed "refurbished printers" page, just make sure you have a STRONG page with plenty of internal links, possibly even within a few product descriptions, blog posts, your HTML sitemap, etc. If it's a category, your breadcrumb system will automatically create dozens or hundreds of links to the page naturally.
-
so one thing I could do is to put the template backwards in the breadcrump
condition - name - model.
Then breadcrumb, h1 and meta title would be different
What I want is to avoid keyword canibalization for the term refurbished printers, which is in almost 500 printers we have, and that I just understood yesterday with your explanation.
Probably on google users will search in 3 different ways
hp cp2025n
cp2025n printer
hp cp20205n printer
or just cp2025n
I was thinking that maybe I should remove the word laserjet...,
-
It looks great to me. However, there's still a long tail term repeated in the title, meta, breadcrumb, h1 and twice in the content:
- HP COLOR LASERJET CP2025N PRINTER
You'll probably rank well for that term with a little improvement to your internal linking and a few backlinks from other websites that list where you can buy this printer. It also couldn't hurt to experiment with comparison shopping engines. Google claims to not use browser data (Chrome), but has admitted to using traffic data in the past.
If it were me, I'd figure out a way to get more semantic variation of my keyword on this page, reduce the density for the phrase above and mix things up a bit. Unless of course you want this exact phrase exactly as it is to be the main inbound marketing traffic driver for this product?
I'd love to see what you come up for on your category page title and meta.

I was thinking that probably I should use the same template in the category listing pages?

Google appending keyword to local search result(s)?
I noticed an interesting change today in how one of my clients appears in the SERPs. Google seems to be appending a keyword to his listing title. Client website: www.mycalgarydentist.com Keyword: Calgary dentist Rank: #2 or #1 lately Title tag: Calgary Dentist | Ambiance Dental Google+ Local listing title: Ambiance Dental Link title in SERP: Ambiance Dental: Calgary Dentist That last point is what's interesting, and new. As of a couple weeks ago (before I went on holidays) his link would simply show "Ambiance Dental", which makes sense because that's the title of his Google+ Local listing. Given the above information, I can't see why his link in Google's SERP is "Ambiance Dental: Calgary Dentist" when doing a search for that keyword. When I do a search for "Calgary dentists" or other similar searches, he simply shows as "Ambiance Dental", not "Ambiance Dental: Calgary Dentists" To test yourself, use the Google AdWords Preview Tool (https://adwords.google.com/d/AdPreview/), change locality to "Calgary, AB, Canada" and search. I suspect this doesn't mean he's violating Google's guidelines for business listings (i.e. businesses aren't supposed to add keywords to their business title). I'm certainly curious why this is happening though. Can anyone provide any insight? Has anyone seen anything similar? calgary-dentist-search.png

Is there an easy solution for duplicate page content on a drupal CMS?
I have a drupal 7 site www.australiacounselling.com.au that has over 5000 crawl errors (!). The main problem - close to 3000 errors- is I have duplicate page content. When I create a page I can create a URL alias for the page that is SEO friendly, however every time I do this, it is registering there are 2 pages with the same content. Is there a module that you're aware of that I can have installed that would allow me to show what is the canonical page? My developers seemed stumped and have given up trying to find a solution, but I'm not convinced that it should be that hard. Any ideas from those familiar with drupal 7 would be greatly appreciated!

Is there an easy tool to add all keywords I need to seomozpro?
In my website there are 3,300 products. www.theprinterdepo.com. I have about 200 keywords on the seomoz account. Every item has about 5 or more variations of keywords. examples: hp 1320 1320 printer hp 1320 refurbished 1320 hp printer hp laser 1320 and so on. The question is: Is there an easy way to add all the keywords related to my products and all its variations to the seomoz dashboard so I can more easily track them? If not, what do you suggest me to do?

Penalty on two primary keywords
Hi Seomoz, I have been strugling to get www.texaspoker.dk out of what seems to be a keyword specific penalty (we are on page 5 on "poker" and "online poker"). First I thought it was Penguin related, but I'm not so sure any longer. I have removed all the bad links to my site possible (it's not easy to get other people to remove links, I can tell you), and I have reported all the links that I would like google to "ignore" (reconsideration request) ... all in all I have requested for reconsideration 5 times, and - despite some small changes - I got the same answer every time. We violate the quality guide lines and we should be looking for unnatural links pointing to our site. If any one - by having a look at our site - have any idea what could be wrong, please don't hold back, we would love to hear your point of view. Right now we are in the middle of making our partners take off their site wide links to us (the partners you'll find if you click the flags to the right in the top of the home page). On Texaspoker.dk we only link to the partners from the home page, but maybe we should consider to take of even these links? No one is really clicking on them anyway. Another thing, which is only under consideration, is to ask our partners from Betxpert.com (with whom we have exchanged our news feed - you will find their feed if you schroll down the home page) to set the feed to "no follow" and do the same our selves. What do you think of this thought? As far as I can see, there is nothing wrong with the on page optimization, but maybe some one can see what I don't see? Again - what ever thoughts you guys may have - shoot ... i'm ready to take all bulets 🙂 Thanks in advance! Nicolai, Texaspoker.dk

Importance of keyword in the content to rank well
Well, I am very beginner seo. our website is www.theprinterdepo.com and our main keyword for the moment is refurbished printers, but there might be hundreds of more keywords. I was analyzing the SERPs and found that for our keyword, the first 2 websites that come up have very different content 1.http://www.geeks.com/products.asp?cat=PRN They rank first, but I dont see a lot of text with the keyword in their text or links 2. http://www.valstarprinters.com/ They mention the keywords lots of times in the text, probably they are doing keyword stuffing? So this makes me thing, how the 1st one ranked there? just by link builiding?
