Anchor text filters
-
I am using text replace on a blog to automatically link keywords in posts and pages back to the homepage.
Sometimes the same KEYWORD links back 2/3 times in one post, can this harm rankings or cause an anchor text filter?
thanks,

Just tested the site using a tool and the keyword represents 70% of all internal links - sounds a lot?
-
Hey thanks ill try that!

Are you using a Wordpress blog?
If so, try replacing your current solution with http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/seo-automatic-links/ - in the configuration settings, it allows you to set a limit for a number of links on a single page.
I've made a screenshot of the available options for you - please see the attachment.

Thank you for your reply Syed.
I am using the text replace plugin, it links the keyword irrespective of occurrences. No idea how to prevent this as I am not a developer. The site has dropped for the head phrases but the longtail traffic remains.
I am wondering if I should delete the plugin, only thing is lots of aged pages of content will lose their link to the homepage.

I am not a big fan of auto text->link widgets but if I were you I'd put a condition to replace text to a specific link only once per post. You do not want to 'over-optimize' your Internal links/ anchor text. Regular variations, whether its an inbound link from external site or just an internal is most effective.

Do non-canonical pages need to worry about things like Alt Text, H1 tags, etc?
Just wanted to confirm, if we have multiple similar pages, with all of their canonicals pointing towards the prime page, does it impact SEO rankings at all if the non-canonical pages were missing alt text from their images, or shared duplicate or multiple H1 tags? Basic SEO page construction stuff? I know some will hurt user CTR but wanted to make sure that SEO crawlers don't care about them even if indexed.

Is this still considered true about INTERNAL anchor text? "Penguin seems to be targeting overly aggressive anchor text (both internally and externally), especially from low-quality sources."
Recently I've heard a few people say now it's okay to be aggressive with internal linking. So a link from mydomain.com/news to mydomain/widgets can use spammy anchor text like "best green widgets in California" that are an obvious problem for links coming in from external site. Which is accurate?

Internal anchor text. Should we still use keywords?
I have a review site that has approximately 70 category pages. I'd like to include a few of them (not all 70) in the footer of the page for easy navigation and to direct the crawlers to the best ones. Is it advisable to use anchor text of "Category + reviews" or just leave it as "Category". I certainly dont want it to be overoptimized, but I do think its a good usability cue, so I'd be surprised if it was against guidelines. Any thoughts?

Is anchor text link juice passed in internal links?
Let's say I have www.bobswidgets.com. If I have "widgets for sale in tuscon arizona' be the anchor text on an internal link on www.bobswidgets.com/page1 which goes to www.bobswidgets.com/page2 - does the value of the anchor text (widgets for sale in tuscon arizona) get passed internally? External links pass the value of the anchor text but do internal links?

What is the best way to make use of internal anchor text links without appearing to be a 'spammy' webpage?
I've recently been spending some time going through all the content on our website, henstuff.com, adding internal anchor text links to product copy with the link following back to the product's generic catagory. I've been focusing on the search term 'hen party accessories', but have also been using 'hen do accessories' and 'hen night accessories'. I know that internal linking has value when it comes to SEO and rankings, but was keen to find roughly at what point usage of a certain search term for anchor links is seen as spam by the engines. Is there a certain formula to follow when it comes to internal anchor text links? You can see some examples at: http://www.henstuff.com/hen-night-accessories/hen-party-accessories/willy-bubbles http://www.henstuff.com/hen-night-accessories/hen-party-devil-horns/hen-night-pink-devil-horns Many thanks Oli
