What should we include in the updated developers SEO cheat sheet?
-
Hey folks,
Do you all remember the developer's SEO cheat sheet? It's super awesome. But it's also a little old.
What super awesome ideas do you have for the updated version?
What should we include? What should we take out?
Any developers around - what SEO knowledge would you most like to see in a cheat sheet?
Thanks!

How about Rich Snippets?

Under Important SEO HTML Tags
I've seen posts about H1, H2, H3 not being of any SEO value... is this true? If so, update it, or add something like "see heading tags". (heading tags are very important even if not for seo).
- Title Tag
- Meta Description
- No Meta Keywords
- H1, H2, H3 ?
- keyword
- keyword
- rel canonical
301 Redirect : .htaccess file or hosting control panel
hope that help!
Kelly

Are we going to see this anytime soon?
-
Way late to this party, but I'd love to see this doc updated.
-
Is this going to be updated any time soon?
-
Maybe add things you can do to improve performance?
-
Popular/most commonly used Microformats!
-
Are we ever going to see the updated version released?
-
I'd love to see ecommerce addressed and how to configure sites & optimize product listings to ensure good SEO visibility.
-
Anything you have on using SharePoint 2007 or 2010 would be profoundly appreciated!
-
While brainstorming a re-write, some pointers on http://schema.org/ optimization would be great!
-
Hi Tom, any thoughts to including links to information about SEO or SEO plug-ins for common CMS platforms (e.g., Wordpress, Joomla, Drupal, Umbraco)? Given the number of developers coding for specific CMS platforms, it might be worthwhile to guide them on how to make them better from an SEO perspective.
-
What to test (i.e. check canonical, redirects, etc.) prior to launch.
-
Have to agree with Gianluca as many people have to do SEO on sites that are on Windows platforms that the businesses involved won't move away from for non-SEO reasons.
-
This is a good idea - the code needed to embed a twitter/facebook widget would be useful as this is a common SEO task.
-
How about some pointers on Open Graph metadata? Not strictly SEO...yet...
-
This is a great point - I'd love to include some HTML5 goodness in there.
-
Perhaps the right setting of doctype, html lang, charset etc...
-
Not sure how you'd cover this in cheat sheet form - but somethign on using JavaScript/AJAX for faceted navigation would be helpful.
-
Equally - HTML5 is an interesting angle to explore as to what offers the best advantages - Richard B has done some good posts on looking at that.
-
Hi Tom ,
- Front
- Amount of Links (inaccurate)
- rel=canonical
- add RedirectMatch 301
- ISAPI Rewrites
- Back
- BingBot
- Robots.txt Syntax (adding the wild card and example)
- xml-sitemaps (note thats up to 500 pages only)
And Microformats?
-
Actually I feel the absence of everything relates to Windows platforms (IIS, Isapi Rewrite)
-
How about a sysadmin or a server admin cheat sheet?
All those settings that they never know about...

I changed the {Site Name} of our domain by capitalizing a letter. 48 hours later our SEO rankings are bad. How long does it take to rebound our prior rankings. The {site name} was at the end of every page title.
I changed the {Site Name} of our domain slightly and capitalized a letter. The impact 48 hours later on SEO is really, really bad. How long does it take to recapture our prior rankings and should I change the site name back to the original? The {site name} was at the end of every page title. Thanks for any help/advice on this. We worked so hard to get our business on the first page for many keywords and "POOF" we are gone now.

How much dev knowledge as an seo do I need to know in order to make small changes on websites?
Hi mozzers I am considering learning some dev just to be able to make minor changes on websites. I love seo but will never want to be a programmer. I get sometimes frustrated that I have to request my dev colleague to make minor changes such as adding a small piece of codes to a website for verification purposes or adding rich snippet or modifying the ga code to get more out of it. I know some HTML and understands the core elements and attributes. My first question would be: what should I learn without learning A-Z of programming? My guess would be some php and? My second question: based on your answer where can I learn about these programs? Any interactive learning services such as team treehouse ? Any online courses? Thanks!

Best X-Cart SEO Solutions / Modules?
We recently acquired an e-commerce client that uses X-Cart. We have no previous experience with this platform and it's hard to find any good / helpful info regarding SEO functionality online. Right now I need to figure out how to handle mass redirects of 404 errors, friendlier URLs, resolving duplicate content, XML sitemap generation, robots.txt generation. The functionality built into the platform so far is terrible and all of the modules are pricey. Any recommendations, general or specific, would be insanely helpful if anybody out there has experience with this particular platform. Thanks!

Local SEO Practice: Creating a Fictitious Business?
Has anyone tried fabricating a fake, brick-and-mortar store as an SEO experiment? Sort of along the lines of what Starwood is doing (check out this Wikipedia experiment with the Test Galaxy Sheraton), but with a legitimate physical address and all? Was it useful? And are there any potential legal troubles that could arise from borrowing a vacant address? I'm thinking this could be helpful for my Intern to gain practical experience in local SEO, without the politics of working for a client But I wouldn't want to blight that address for future occupants if the experiment went horribly awry. We could instead offer pro bono services to a small business with a limited web presence – that would be useful to her, and constructive. But I'd like to have a better understanding of what signals Google looks for when deciding whether to index a website in local search, and see whether possible to dupe those algos. What are your thoughts, Mozzers? .

Market Motive - Take their SEO Course?
Hi there, I'm considering taking Market Motive's online SEO course for $3,500. It's a steep price for me so I wanted to ask you guys if this is a wise choice. The course would grant me certification and is around 90 days to complete. Has anyone had any experience with this course? It seems a little old, but Market Motive claims they update their videos.
