Site has taken a fall
-
I suspect (Although find it hard to beleive!) that a recently aquired link may have affected the rankings of one of my sites for all of it's keywords.
Should I get this link removed asap or leave it and see if things recover?
To me, it just smacks of un-nautral if the link gets removed straight away.
-
Since starting this thread, it's apparent that Panda 3.3 is the culprit here
-
I would recommend doing a On=page Site Audit to see if there are any other issues. If not, I would concentrate on building more content and natural links. You should be able to recover. If nothing happens, and you think you are penalized, submit a reconsideration request. I think you may need better quality links.
-
Well I'll tell you two things.
1. the majority of the sites that you have backlinks on are low domain authority.
2. you don't have many back links according to Open Site Explorer.
Should be an easy fix you know where to back link.
-
I suppose dodgy is the wrong word, "un-natural looking" would probably be better.
The site doesn't have loads of dodgy links, there's some for sure, but most of it's links are from guest or sponsored posts - so I guess this could look potentially un-natural.
-
What do you mean by "one more" do you have loads of dodgy links already ?
-
That's what my thoughts were, but I'm thinking if one more dodogy link was all that was needed to trigger an algorithmic penalty that it could be the cause....?
I'm at a bit of a loss as to what's caused it otherwise!
-
It it very unlikely that one link would get your site penalised. Imagine how easy it would be to get your competition penalised by simply linking to them from a spammy site.
-
Yeah, could be a penalty as it's definitely site wide. But I've been in this situation before and the site recovered after building a few 'quality' links.
Does anyone know if one "potentially dodgy" link can trigger an algorithmic penalty? or should I be looking at other potential factors?
I also bought a site wide side bar graphic advert recently (which incidentely hasn't been nofollowed), but it's from a reputable, decent site - is this more likely to have caused the problem?
-
Man, i think i have bad news for you: your site could be penalized. Usually when the site drop down for several keywords, it was penalized by google. Please take a look at: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/how-to-handle-a-google-penalty-and-an-example-from-the-field-of-real-estate
I also think is impossible to remove the link (you need to contact the website). I have a problem from a SEO directorie with a bad anchor text. It was not possible to cancel this.

When Googling site:mydomain.com what does listing order tell us?
To find all the pages on my site that are indexed by Google I can search using site:mydomain.com and it gives pages of results. But what does the order of results relate to? Is it page rank or strength? My list of pages doesn't appear to be in order of strength. And it's definitely not by age or alphabetical...

GWMT - "Tag Site For Child Directed Treatment" Effect On Search / Rankings?
Hi All, We have a client who has been directed to tag their site for "Child Directed Treatment" in Webmaster tools to comply with AdExchange policies. The site is, generally speaking, directed at those between the ages of 13 and 16 along with their parents, but does NOT collect any data (No sign in, login, signups etc). You can find out more about the specific tag here (unfortunately not much more about it) https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/3221080?hl=en Our concern is that we have never heard of this specific tag, and our client is asking us to let them know if that this will have no effect on search traffic or ranking. I can't find much in the way of anyone who HAS implemented this tag and the effects it has had on their site. They are ad supported, receive millions of unique hits a month, and the majority of their traffic is from branded keywords. Would love to hear from anyone with ANY experience or thoughts on this process and what to be aware of. Your assistance is muchly appreciated.

What's the best way to redirect mobile site?
Hi, We have a mobile website using a sub-directory domain.com/m/whatever-page/. Our mobile is completely separate site from desktop version. What's the best way to handle the redirection from mobile visitors and those that are searching from mobile and see desktop version in the search result? Appreciate anyone's expert advise. Thanks,

Micro Location Site with EMD , Property related
Hi I have a client, who focus is on Commercial property leasing in Johannesburg and surrounding area's. We find that people search for "area"& "property type" The client bought 50 exact match domains for keywords that we currently run in Google Adwords for example:We advertise on keywords: "Midrand offices to let" and bought Midrandofficestolet.com, now the group wants to make small micro sites with unique article about commercial property in that area "Midrand" with a link to the main site where the "midrand properties" are listed . The feeder or micro sites will also have contact details of main site. the domains will all be hosted on the same server, registered to the same owner est. Is this typical link farming? or should we rather build the articles on the main website and park the domains on the area categories? The clients main-set is that he will same money on adwords by owning the EMD and from that link to his main site Your guidance will be much appriciated

Why is our site jumping all over the place?
Hi there, We've been having some issues with our site recently where it seems to be jumping very erratically around the google rankings. The site used to be pretty consistent on page 1/2 of google for certain term, but then in late April(ish) it took a dive down the rankings and flicked about between positions 30-70(ish). Late last month, it re-appeared suddenly on page 1 in position 10 and stayed there up until yesterday (6th July) and it now appears to have dived to position 287th or there abouts! At the same time a deep link page has appeared at position 54, which seems a bit strange to me. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks
