SeoMoz duplicate content
-
Hi all,
There's a lot of controversy around duplicated content.
If you google "The New SEO Process (Quit Being Kanye)" you'll get tones of results with a copied content from the original article.
How does google manages this? (duplicated or not)
Is this good for the original content/website?
Thank you
Cornel

We do get a lot of scrapers
Google doesn't manage it all that well, unfortunately. There are a couple of cues:
(1) As Harald said, Google does try to determine which came first. This can be tough, because auto-scrapers actually can get indexed before sources in some cases. Having a solid crawl structure, XML sitemaps, pinging relevant sites, etc. can help.
(2) If the sites link back to you (on purpose or accidentally, by including links you put in the content), it's a signal to Google that you're the source.
(3) If you're a high-authority site, you've generally got an edge. Most of our scrapers are pretty weak sites, so we're not in much dangers. Unfortunately, I've seen times when scrapers outranked original content.
Proper syndication, with back-links or other signals (like syndication-source or cross-domain canonical) can definitely be good for sites. Having a ton of scrapers on a site that's relatively new/weak can be very negative, unfortunately. Then again, most new sites don't have a ton of scrapers, so it does balance out a little.

I think if u are the first website that google crawls and finds the content - then it will look to google that you published the original content.
If u put the same articles on some article directories it could happen that thy are being crawled faster - so u end up having content with now value (duplicate content) because the found it first on a different page.

Is it better to have micro-sites with good content or redirect domains?
I have a domain with a lot of content and it is an eCommerce site. I've just been told that we have another 12 domains that are inactive and do not redirect. I don't know what to do with them as they haven't been used for ages and do not direct or have any content (max of a DA or 4). Therefore which is better for SEO? To have really good content with perhaps a few regular blog posts on each of the 12 domains, or to redirect all of the domains to the one main domain? I would take 1 domain and put a lot of content on and optimise is.. spending a few weeks on one and then move onto another, all while posting on each blog on each domain. Thank you for any help! 🙂

How to create good SEO content for an essentially thin ecommerce site?
I have a retail website that in the past has been hit by a manual action for crappy backlinks (these were all done by a previous agency and up until the penalty providing very good results). We have since removed all of the rubbish backlinks and have come out of manual penalty and are looking in to our long term strategy in terms of content and link building. We have a blog within our site that does well with traffic and with an OK conversion to the products that feature within the posts, we are also putting together a strategy in terms of long term content plans and while this is all very good for the blog, the ecommerce part of the domain continues to suffer. I know that part of this is because we did remove all of these links that were giving it juice, but where do you start with SEO when what you are dealing with is essentially thin content? With around 7000 products, every page has unique descriptions and titles that have been updated to remove keyword stuffing and over optimisation that has occured in the past. We don't want to go down the route of getting an agency that is going to put us back in Googles bad books, but how do you go about getting a retail page juice without firing backlinks at it? Not looking for the holy grail here but just looking for some advice, I want a clear idea of a direction to go in before recruiting an agency to do this.

Giveaway outreach - duplicate content?
I'm thinking of hosting a giveaway, and promoting this to bloggers. Thinking of how to go about this, I've run into a sort of a road block. I'm thinking the best way would be to attach a flyer detailing the giveaway so that bloggers have easy access to the information. However, I fear that a lot of them will just copy + paste from the flyer straight to a blog post - which will create a lot of duplicate content. Anybody in the community willing to share their experiences and how they were able to go around the duplicate content issue?

Content - Onsite Blog vs Article Submission
Hey Folks, First post! I have a 4 year old site with reasonable authority (49) and lots of content. Easy first question. I plan to create lots more unique, useful and relevant content however I'm in a quandary as to whether to: A. Post the content on our sites blog or B. Submit the article to an article directory like ezine-articlesand backlink to my site. Is one better than the other? Thanks, Richard

We have written great content - how will people find it?
Hi We have allocated resources to write some great content (how to's, best practice, videos) etc which will benefit customers as they will find it a useful resource. We are using this not as a sales channel but as a trust and information resource to build a community It is currently located about 2 levels deep in our website, what are the best ways of getting people to find these articles on the web? I have placed some social sharing icons at the bottom of the page to Facebook and Twitter but are there other channels because at present the only way they will find this information as if they visit our website. Do we also need to be practive and distribute this content around the web perhaps as a guest writer? which raises duplicate content problems as it would also be on our website or is there a better approach?

Many competitor's backlinks are in content anchor links. Ho do I get these same links?
Hi I managed to open up OSE. I'm finding that much of the competition's backlinks are in content anchor text links. Am I supposed to get backlinks from these same pages using the same anchor text but linking back to my page or is that allowed? If so, how do I get these in content blog post links? Thanks. Sunil.

How to Add Content to a Product-Focused Site
I recently took over management of the SEO work for the following site: http://www.grovercorp.com/rings-and-seals/. I want to do link building, but don't have a ton of experience with it. From what I've read, offering linkable content is the best way to get links. However, this site -- like many in industrial B-2-B -- is focused primarily on promoting their products. I'd like tto offer an article or add an infographic, but am not sure where I would put it? It doesn't seem like the architecture offers a good place to add linkable content. Anyone have thoughts or suggestions?
