Video Optimization

Our videos are not appearing in Google video search.
We use Brightcove for our videos and thety are in embedded in the site as flash and html 5. We are using meta data on the Brightcove videos
We have added a video sitemap and submitted it to GWT - but after several months, our videos are still not showing up
Any ideas how we can address this problem and better optimize our videos for the search engines? While we post some of our videos on Youtube, we use Brightcove when we embed and publish the videos on our site

OK, lets take a step back a second.
Syed & BK search - sorry, but YouTube is absolutely the wrong approach here. If you're use Youtube for the content then the SERP results will link back to youtube and not to the target domain.
Tim - Brightcove is totally fine and you're doing everything right from what you describe. It could be a minor sitemap error or perhaps a general technical issue that's preventing the videos from being indexed.
Can you send me a link to the site in question and one of the video pages? If you don't want to reveal it publicly, then feel free to PM me or drop me an email.
Cheers,
Phil

I agree with Syed said and might add that I have not seen Brightcove videos in universal search in Google. Has anyone else? I would go with what you are seeing. Youtube, metacafe, and vimeo seem to show up pretty well. Youtube seems pretty strong and if you upload HD the quality is pretty good.
I would also drop back into Google Webmaster Tools and see if your video sitemap has any errors. Might do that now but I also think you should consider a more mainstream video hosting service.

What would work like a charm is if you did embed that video (linking to your site) from other websites. Acts a "video link" or sort of "votes" for the video on your page - increasing the likelihood of appearing on Google results.
Also, why not just use Youtube to embed. Since its Google's baby, they may prefer to display it over other hosted services. Just look at what they're doing with G+ personalization results.

YouTube Videos on SERPS
Hi there, One of my clients is asking why there's this big SEO result when https://www.google.es/search?q=botemania+youtube&oq=botemani&aqs=chrome.0.69i59j0j69i61j69i57j0l2.1149j0j4&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8. What kind of search results are thos with this big video first result? Any tips how to achieve this? Something related with the views, video description?. I tested a few other similar queries, even big brands included in the search query and this kind of SEO result does not show up. Any help would be appreciated, thanks! qGwcE

Videos impact on SEOmoz On Page Analysis
For several years we've heard that Google rewards pages that include videos with significantly higher page ranks, however I do not see video incorporated into the On Page Analysis. One of our competitors ranks 1st-3rd on a several keywords while the On Page Analysis tool grades them as an F for the same keywords. This competitor uses video more than any of the others, and has far more YouTube subscribers. I suspect video plays a role in their excellent SERP. Is there a video evaluation tool within SEOmoz? If not, is one coming, or is there a reason why it would not be appropriate? Does anyone have suggestions for incorporating the use of videos in SEO evaluations and recommendations? Thank you, Michael

Video Transcription
Does anyone have any best practices for video transcription strategy. We download the file at youtube, edit it, remove the time and upload it again, where youtube adds the time according to the edited file I've seen some transcripts under the video section that have not time on that? Does anyone know how that's done? I've also seen keywords added into those? Any recommendations around that. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Youtube Channel, Video SEO
I am providing some SEO consulting for a friend's company. They are an Investment Research and Portfolio Management firm. They started a blog about a year ago with most of their posts being short Youtube videos between 3 to 10 minutes in length, providing their take on what is going on in with the markets at the moment. Additionally, they've created a youtube channel which has a little over 1,500 subscribers. The videos do fairly decent getting between 1,500 to 20,000 views (the later happens when a big financial blog links to them) but they are not taking full advantage of this great content in my opinion i.e hosting videos with a 3rd party like Wistia. I think they should begin using Wistia or Vimeo Pro to maximize the SEO benefits as well as gather analytics about views. Then after they've milked them all they can put them on their youtube channel and target them for different keywords. My question is, should they go back and switch out the videos on the old posts with videos hosted by a 3rd party, submit sitemaps, etc. or should they just leave them the way they are and only host new videos with a 3rd party? I think they should switch out the old youtube videos but am not sure if this could cause any negative repercussions.

Google local question - over optimization?
I run a law firm with multiple practice areas (bankruptcy, probate, estate planning, personal injury). I have a google places page with those categories listed. I recently spoke with an seo company (that cold called me...) that told me that it was "black hat" to try to optimize a local campaign for more than one of those practice areas. That doesn't seem right to me. Any thoughts?
