Port 80 and Duplicate Content
-
The SEOmoz Web App is showing me that every single URL on one of my clients' domains has a duplicate in the form of the URL + :80.
For instance, the app is showing me that www.example.com/default.aspx is duplicated in the form of www.example.com:80/default.aspx
Any idea if this is an actual problem or just some kind of reporting error? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm willing to bet its an issue with their crawler as Robert mentions above.
While you wait on confirmation for this, make sure that your web server is not configured to serve to any unnecessary ports. For the vast majority of sites, you only need to listen to the default port 80. This apache doc may help you with this.

Anthony,
I can't tell you if this is the same issue, but Megan with SEOmoz just responded to a question re duplicate content:
http://www.seomoz.org/q/duplicate-page-content-and-titlesAgain, may be helpful, may not. But there was a bit of a bug.

Is one page with long content better than multiple pages with shorter content?
(Note, the site links are from a sandbox site and has very low DA or PA) If you look at this page, you will see at the bottom a lengthy article detailing all of the properties of the product categories in the links above. http://www.aspensecurityfasteners.com/Screws-s/432.htm My question is, is there more SEO value in having the one long article in the general product category page, or in breaking up the content and moving the sub-topics as content to the more specific sub-category pages? e.g. http://www.aspensecurityfasteners.com/Screws-Button-Head-Socket-s/1579.htm

My site is http://skigenie.com and is full of unique and hand written content,. Are there any wordpress plugins that will add titles etc to my pages (some of the added ones are custom)? Any help would be much appreciated!

Duplicate Content in Blog
Hi, SEOMoz on-page analysis is reporting that our blog has duplicate content when technically it doesn't. Is this something that we need to address as it will actually be hurting our ranking or is this just a SEOMoz software quirk? There is 100+ example like this but here is one example. SEOMoz is reporting http://www.invoicestudio.com/Blog/author/InvoiceStudio?page=1 and http://www.invoicestudio.com/Blog/author/InvoiceStudio?page=2 as a duplicate content and Title Tag. Thanks Andrew

Changing the way SEOmoz Detects Duplicate Content
Hey everyone, I wanted to highlight today's blog post in case you missed it. In short, we're using a different algorithm to detect duplicate pages. http://moz.com/blog/visualizing-duplicate-web-pages If you see a change in your crawl results and you haven't done anything, this is probably why. Here's more information taken directly from the post: 1. Fewer duplicate page errors: a general decrease in the number of reported duplicate page errors. However, it bears pointing out that: **We may still miss some near-duplicates. **Like the current heuristic, only a subset of the near-duplicate pages is reported. **Completely identical pages will still be reported. **Two pages that are completely identical will have the same simhash value, and thus a difference of zero as measured by the simhash heuristic. So, all completely identical pages will still be reported. 2. Speed, speed, speed: The simhash heuristic detects duplicates and near-duplicates approximately 30 times faster than the legacy fingerprints code. This means that soon, no crawl will spend more than a day working its way through post-crawl processing, which will facilitate significantly faster delivery of results for large crawls.

SEOmoz indicating duplicate page content on one of my campaigns
Hello All, Alright, according to SEOmoz's PRO campaign manager, one of my websites is returning about 2,700 pages that supposedly have duplicate content. I checked a few of them manually and am not seeing where the issue lies. Is anyone else experiencing something similar to this and do you know if it is just a glitch with the crawl? Here are 2 of the pages it is indicating have dup page content: http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/c-3120-1994-98-59l-12v-dodge-cummins-carbon-fiber-hoods.aspx http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/c-90-dodge-cummins-94-02-59l-12v24v.aspx Any insight would be greatly appreciated! -Craig
