Rankings Issue
-
Hey guys, and gals,
So our site http://www.motorcyclecenter.com/ is having the hardest time ranking in the big G. We've built links, optimized, and all the other basics. If you guys have a chance, could you take a glance, and tell us what you think, as to why this site is having such a hard time. Much appreciated!

Agree with both Andrew and Alan. Add a few lines of text such as "Welcome to Motorcyle Center. We stock America's finest motorcycle gear, motorcyle parts, biker jackets, motocross helmets and more. We're experienced motorcyle enthusiasts with over xyz years in the industry..." etc etc. Just a basic introduction to your site, what you're about and why people should shop there. The why shop with us banner is just an image, so perhaps incorporate some of that in to your SEO text. "One stop motorcycle shop - largest selection of motorcyle gear, no risk shopping on your favorite motorcycle parts" etc etc.
Also, you're page title is way too long. Try to rank for 2-3 key terms on your homepage first, then go after your secondary terms next.
Your top level categories should have better URLs. "Shop-for-men" doesn't describe anything about "Mens Motorcycle Apparel"
Hope this helps,
Brad

I think it will be valuable to do a competitor analysis to see what they are doing better. What is there link profile like, what keywords are they targeting, what is their page optimisation and content like etc?? This will give you some areas to focus on.

Hello.
I think google doesn't like some things about your site.
You rank #14 for motor cycle center.
I see you have a hidden div that contains a login box, right up in the top left corner, so the first 50 words on your page relate to your menu and that login text.
The rest of the text on your page consists of a mass of motorcycle-related words in links, but nothing in the way of text to tell the crawler what your page is really about.
Surprisingly, the on-page report gives you an A, but this report isn't smart enough to understand that you don't have any human-readable descriptive text,
I suggest you do a Crawl as Googlebot and see what it tells you.

I have just had a really quick look at your site and have noted a couple of things:
Correct me if I am wrong, but it doesn't look like there is any actual content (body text) on the homepage? I would have thought you would need at least a few sentences describing to visitors and google what your site is about?
Also - Are your product descriptions unique? I know I have had a lot of issues with duplicate content over the past year (since the panda update) where Google is filtering out pages that have not enough unique content. Often generic product descriptions get caught up with this. There are some good ways to help make your product page unique and more appealing - I recommend taking a look at this post .
It looks like a lot of your navigation is quite deep - for example your Parts page is 3 layers deep - http://www.motorcyclecenter.com/l/Motorcycle-Parts/932.. This might be making it tough for Google to crawl deep into your site. I know it depends on how your site is set up, but if you could have www.motorcyclecenter.com/motorcycle-parts as a landing page optimised for 'motorcycle parts' - that would be ideal to help rank.
Just a few thoughts....
Cheers,
Andrew

Inner pages not ranking well
Hi Guys I'm currently working on a website and scratching my head. It seems certain pages of the website rank absolutely fine. The homepage, certain pages on footer and the primary navigation pages are ranking fine. Pages, however, that sit on the inner navigation (e.g 3rd level navigational pages) - do not rank well at all. Looking in webmaster, it is apparent these are fluctuating in and out of the Google index - sometimes they are there - sometimes not. I fully understand issues with Google penalties but I don't believe this is case as other pages are ranking fine. Link building has been done to these pages but to no effect. We have also increased internal links e.g by putting the pages on the footer - but still nothing. One thing that may impact the ranking is possibly the URL structure The website URLs are all www.Example.com/widgets - even if they sit on the 3rd level of the user navigation. Could this be a reason why? Would it help if 3rd level pages had the URL structure www.Example.com/services/widgets ? If anyone can provide help that would be great!!! thanks, Duncan

Page Rank Worse After Optimization
For a long time, we had terrible on page SEO. No keyword targeting, no meta titles or descriptions. Just a brief 2-4 sentence product description and shipping information. Strangely, we weren't ranking too bad. For one product, we were ranking on page 1 of Google for a certain keyword. My goal to reach the top of page 1 would be easy (or so I thought). I have now optimized this page to rank better for the same keyword. I have a 276 word description with detailed specifications and shipping information. I have a strong title and meta description with keywords and modifers. I have also included a video demonstration, additional photos and an PDF of the owners manual. In my eyes, the page is 100% better than it ever was. In the eyes of MOZ, it's better also. I've got an A with the On-Page Grader. Why is this page now ranking on page 8 of Google? What have I done wrong? What can I do to correct it?

Help! The website ranks fine but one of my web pages simply won't rank on Google!!!
One of our web pages will not rank on Google. The website as a whole ranks fine except just one section...We have tested and it looks fine...Google can crawl the page no problem. There are no spurious redirects in place. The content is fine. There is no duplicate page content issue. The page has a dozen product images (photos) but the load time of the page is absolutely fine. We have the submitted the page via webmaster and its fine. It gets listed but then a few hours later disappears!!! The site has not been penalised as we get good rankings with other pages. Can anyone help? Know about this problem?

Is it normal to initially rank low in the SERPs, then over time gain rank?
We just released a very targeted page for a specific item about 18 hours ago. For the main keyword as well as multiple variations, we currently are ranking around # 40 to # 50 depending on what the exact query is. Is it normal to initially rank lower in the SERPs and then as the page ages, gain? Thank you for your insights!

Indexing issue?
Hey guys when I do a search of site:thetechblock.com query in Google I don't seem to see any recent posts (nothing for August). In Google webmaster I see that the site is being crawled (I think), but I'm not sure. I also see the the sitemaps are being indexed but again it just seems really odd that I'm not seeing these in Google results. SEO seems all good too with SEO Moz. Is there something I'm not getting?

How do we get individual products to rank ?
Hi, We have a site that sells music and we have been researching SEO and things we can do to help SERPs. We have started on link building and have added links to the footer of our page We have friendly urls, meta tag description added to all products. My question is, Yes we can work on getting keywords to rank better in google, one of ours being buy cds. But when it comes to individual products these keywords and results are useless if people are searching for a CD by artist or title which most do as they know what they are looking for. How do i get better results for all these unique products ? One or more of our competitors constantly show up in first few results for nearly any CD search by artist or title, yet we cant seem to get anywhere near this type of result ? Thanks Chris
