Is hosting videos on our other, searchable sites competing with our site-hosted videos?
-
We use TubeMogul to diversify where we display our videos (in addition to YouTube), but are looking into using a video hosting site so that we can drive traffic back to our own website. Would uploading videos through TubeMogul be essentially like competing with a much more highly-ranked website with the same content? Worth it? Are there any disadvantages to using TubeMogul in general?
Thanks!

Picking your channels is always important.
My recommendation for on-site video is to publish the videos into your existing sitemap on the domain you want to rank for, and file a video sitemap with Google. Video results are often given priority over text results and so Google will feature your video content because many sites just don't have a video function and they see great results from clicks and so forth when it comes to video.
Having a YouTube channel is also good, but it has to be a part of your strategy to keep it going. Do you want people to comment on YouTube or on your site? Do you want people searching to be able to find your site, or your YouTube page? You want to funnel the traffic where you want it to go, and of course on your own site you can control the Calls to Action and things of that nature.
Here is an excellent SEOmoz blog from Kate Matsudaira that talks about creating a video strategy and some of the options and opportunities for success using video.

Hope this helps!

Site "Internal" Search Full-Text Indexing vs. Manual Tagging
I’m looking for recommendations on how to power site search in an efficient way. Ideally, I would like to get recommendations on platforms, tools, trends, technology and resources. This discussion does not really refer to SEO or site search optimization. It is more related to the technology used to power site search. I would like to get an idea on the differences between full-text indexing site search and site search that requires manual tagging.

Why has our site had a huge spike in referral traffic?
Starting last week, our site had a HUGE spike in referral traffic from: search.dnsassist.verizon.net. We have never had a visit from there until last week, and had 12K visits last week so something is happening. The traffic does look normal though, all visits were in the US from 700 cities and pages/visit, avg visit duration and bounce rate are close to site average. There is a few other referral sites that showed up last week as well: wind.search-help.net, uslc.search-help.net, finder.cox.net. All of these sites are low, around 30 to 50 visits a day, but we had not any referrals until last week. I did notice most of these sites state "Explore with Yahoo Search." Just wondering if anyone has every seen this before and wondering what is happening. Thanks for reading. <colgroup><col width="207"></colgroup>

Backlinks from complaints site?
Our brands deal quite a lot with a complaints site that the public may post a complaint and then our clients respond - if the response is the answer the complainer was looking for, they can convert the complaint into a compliment however this is 80% not the case. Hence would including a link back to the clients site from a complaints website have any negative effect or can we turn a negative into a marketing opportunity?

Should URL Follow Navigation Of A Site?
Following an SEOMoz webinar the other day, where the presenter made a case of eliminating folders in URLs, as these could confuse a bot when crawling a site. I love the idea. However, there are still a lot of Best Practices and guidelines out there that will suggest there should be a logic in the URL, just as there should be in your Navigation. My question in that regard is whether or not there is any value for a bot to crawl a website URL that follows the navigation by "stuffing" the URL with folders, identical to the navigation present on the site, and even a secondary navigation present on all pages? Example: the navigation of a site goes [Domain > Folder > Sub folder > Sub-sub folder > product]. What is the benefit of using a URL such as [www.domain.com/folder/sub-folder/sub-sub-folder/product] vs [www.domain.com/product] Thank you guys for your insights! PS this is a WP site we are talking about.

Using the same Google Analytics account for two sites
I have a friend who is concerned that his competition is trying something funny to show high traffic. The competition has two sites using the same GA tracking code. What impact would this have on his actual traffic. One site has high traffic 7500 daily the other site has 150 daily but gaining momentum

Pros and Cons Google Site Search
I'm having a hard time finding the actual pros and cons of implementing Google Site Search on a website. Thoughts? Any data on bounce rate of internal SERP because UX doesn't look like the website? I know you can customize, but most examples I've seen still look pretty different from the stie's native style. Any other cons? Data issues, etc?

How to optimize a site for search engines in India
I am working on a website that is a manufacturing company selling items to companies in the United States, India and some other countries. I already know what keywords I would target in the US but what about India? In the US we optimize our keywords for the Google search engine but in India what search engine is the biggest. I know http://www.google.co.in/ exists but is that the most powerful (most users) for India? Is there a certain language I do research for keywords or should I stick to English keywords? Also if I rank for a national keyword (no location in the phrase) well in the US should it be similar for India?
