Discrepancies in link reports from SEOMoz and OSE
-
Hello,
I am trying to understand the link profile of my site. In the competitive analysis from SEOMoz, it shows 22K+ of links, with about 900+ being external followed links and 800+ internal.
Webmaster tools shows a similar number of external followed links, but the link report from OSE only shows about 150 external followed links.
This brings up several questions:
Where is this 22K total links coming from?
Why is there such a difference in the SEOMoz competitive analysis and the OSE report?
Why does the OSE report show some links as not followed, while Webmaster tools lists them as followed?
Am new to the off-page aspects of SEO, and I have to say the discrepancy in data from different tools is by far the most challenging thing for me. Would welcome general advice on this topic as well.
Thank you!

Ha! I had a drink with Todd in Brazil last year during a conference. Unfortunately, not a grad of his program.

Thanks Cyrus! I think you answered another question for me on Market Motive as well. You must be my SEO guardian angel. Are you a grad of Todd's program?

Hi Lynn,
Great question! This can definitely be confusing, but fortunately there is an easy explanation.
The metrics in the competitive analysis of your PRO campaign refer to Root domain metrics - this means the totality of all links pointing to your entire root domain.
On the other hand, when you type a URL into Open Site Explorer, the first metrics it shows you are URL specific metrics - meaning it only shows you links going to that specific page.
To find your 22k number, hit the "Compare Link Metrics" tab and scroll towards the bottom where it lists Root domain metrics. These numbers should jive with what you're seeing in the competitive analysis, and more closely reflect what you see in Google's Webmaster Tools (although Google Webmaster and OSE don't always agree, as they tend to report different numbers)
Hope this helps! Best of luck with your SEO.

Spam links with high DA
I'm running through the spam analysis and noticed a few links that are considered to be 9+ on the spam score (high spam level), but some of them have DA of 60 -75. How can this be possible? When I view the sites they appear to be be pretty low quality. If i'm considering disavowing a site should I focus on spam score or DA? A DA of 75 is a pretty reputable standing.

Link report that is broken down by C Block?
I've tried to do this in the advanced reports are of Moz, but to no avail. I just want to be able to see all the links (and anchor text would be nice too) for each CBlock.

Just wondering if any of the Moz team can give us a heads up when open site explorer will support HTTPS?

Number of available links limited?
OK, I've been making use of the free LinkScape API (on behalf of a client of mine) and trying to get links (and info on those links) to a specific domain/page/etc. NOTE : I've been using it without any issue in the past, however we are currently facing some weird issues. Let's take this simple query as an example : http://lsapi.seomoz.com/linkscape/links/wikipedia.org?SourceCols=4&TargetCols=4&Sort=page_authority&Scope=page_to_domain What this one supposedly does is to get links to "wikipedia.org", right? I'm reading : The Page_to_* scopes will by default return 25 links per source domain if no limit is specified, so you can see domain diversity. Due to space limitations in our API, a general link query for a given page will return at most 25 pages for every unique domain linking to that page. And I'm saying OK, that's fine. The thing is that (instead of the 1000 links I had been getting before), I'm now getting just 25 links. NOT per... "source domain"... but obviously per "target domain" (= wikipedia.org) - or am I missing something? (well, probably wikipedia suddenly has just about 25 links pointed to it... makes sense! 🙂 ) Please, let me know what's going on with the above, simply because getting just 25 links is close to worthless... Thanks a lot, in advance!

Is canonical link enough?
Hi SEOmozers! I have a question. SEOmoz analysis report me some duplicate that I thought I had fix. I can give a concrete example. This page: http://www.nuxeo.com/en/about/events/dec2011training-boston/moreinfo is reported as having 6 duplicated URL in the tool. When I click on 6, SEOMOZ tells me "Our crawl bots are getting their joints greased to fetch you even better data. Sorry for the delay!" And on the page itself, I placed a canonical link to follow recommandation. rel="canonical" href="http://www.nuxeo.com/en/about/events/apr2012training-boston" /> As a result I am curious why I would have this reported as duplicate by SEOmoz. Is this a bug? Thanks for feedback!
