Limit number of links in a page, how to build the menu?
-
Hi,
One of the first SEOMoz tool recommand to me, is to avoid multiple links on the same page.
This is fully true, i've more than 600 internal links placed in a menu on the header.
This means that each page contains these 600 links at least.User-experience wise, i need to keep this multi-level menu accessible. What would you suggest me ?
=> No-follow on the links would be useful and not penalizing (if i still have other do-follow links to these pages)
=> Javascript menu, so that i can't be crawled by google
=> Any other suggestion?
Thank you in advance!

In general you will have to decrease the number of links in your menu. Don't think that a choice of 600 links is really user-friendly. But of course that might be subjective. We have a client with about 300 well-reasoned links on menu and the site performs quite well; most of the pages have great rankings. The SeoMoz crawler still finds it inappropriate but the interaction and the rankings are good. Google are saying that you can have up to a 100 links and that is considered to be normal. Check amazon. They don't have more than 100-ish links on a single page. Think about it and try to cut the bulk from your main navigation if possible.
You can always put no-follow links to the subpages and pass seo juice to the main categories and subcategories only. That's the easiest way to solve the task but nothing will change for your users.

Our protected pages 302 redirect to a login page if not a member. Is that a problem for SEO?
We have a membership site that has links out in our unprotected pages. If a non-member clicks on these links it sends a 302 redirect to the login / join page. Is this an issue for SEO? Thanks!

Linking to my Site so I should Link Back?
I remember hearing a few years ago that it was a good practice to link back to a site that was linking to you. My company's site was referenced and linked to in a news article. The news company has an above average domain authority, which is pretty good for my company's backlink profile. Is it still or was ever a "best practice" to link back to this website/domain? I feel like linking back was a best practice, but when I try to search this, all I get back is backlinking 101 and backlinking articles. Nothing really answering my question straight forward. Thanks for any help.

How to Break Up a Page with Too Many Links
My client has a live page with 100+ links subdivided into 10 categories that each have great potential keyword targeting opportunities. I'd like to improve this page and my intuition is to split it into 11 pages, one page with links to all the others and a bit of content about each. Here's an example of the potential IA: Dog Rescue Groups
