Remove Unatural Links
-
We hired a SEO firm to build links for us two months ago, and now, we received "unatural link" warning from Google. SEO firm informed that they have taken steps to remove these links. But, we don't think we should trust and depend on them for that. We want to be on it and would like your advise for the following three questions:
-
how to determina whether a link is "natural" or "unatural"? We want to make sure we don't remove the natural ones
-
We saw 933 links from Blogspot.com, that for sure do not look natural, how do we go about to remove it?
-
Based on SEO firm's report, certain links have be removed, but, it is still showing on Google Webmaster, should we give it sometime to crawl and confirm?
-
-
Thanks again for sharing.
At this point, we also lean towards building good quality links as what Ivaylo suggested.
-
Some links may be unremovable. If they're all coming from one domain, they'll likely just be devalued - Google is going to see this as a single pile of links (not 900 different entities) and probably ignore it. I'd leave it, in most cases, and move forward with higher-quality links. Blogspot isn't paid or a link network, so those links are just low quality.
-
Thank you for your suggestions - they are what we wanted to do. However, we lack the expertise to tell what links are "bad" among 600 links SEO company built for us.
They've started removing among 4 sites who have hundreds of links to our site. Three of them, according to SEO firm, were confirmed "removed", but one of the site is www.blogspot.com, it has over 900 links to our site, what can we do about this one?
-
While I do think you can trade off positive link-building vs. cutting negative links (depending on the severity), I have to disagree with "the warning will still be there no matter what you do". We're seeing accounts from reputable firms that this warning is real, can be followed by a penalty, and will be lifted if action is taken.
The trick is that the warning covers many levels of severity, and there's no good way to tell how severe this one is. If you know you have very questionable links, I'd kill the worst of them, personally. This would include paid links or very obvious, low-value spam.
I'd also tell your SEO company to shift gears ASAP. As Ivaylo said, diverify - no matter whether you cut links or don't.

They do send us a link report. Many of them are really random unrelated site to our business. Are they "unatural"? Should we ask to remove some so that the distribution of backlink are even, keep it under 25% from unrelated site?
The SEO company built 600 links in two month period. With variation of 10 anchor text, they've used it evenly among 600 links, we can't go back to change that, right?
We are building links now from guest blogging, but does it have potential to be scraped onto different blog networks?
-
Yes, give it some time. About a week. When you submit a reconsideration request to Google make sure to provide PROOF that you are doing everything possible to remove the unnatural links. If it was truly the SEO firm's fault make sure to mention the name of the firm in reconsideration request.
Was the SEO Firm providing you with a report of the links they built each month? I'd go through that report and try to remove each link 1 by 1.
-
The warning will still be there no matter what you do at this point. You don't have to resubmit your website or revamp it. Most probably the links are coming from public blogging networks and even the SEO company won't be able to remove it. Such links are already devalued by google. While waiting for a resolution try to replace them with normal quality links, links from press releases, guest blogging, etc. Diversify your anchor text portfolio. Make it look natural.

Does link have any value?
I recently received a link, but upon inspecting the page source on the site I did not see the link in the coding. Is this a link with any SEO value? Is google able to see this link? Note: Upon inspecting the actual link on the page, I do see coding with a followed link, but on the page source, only the actual table in which it is listed shows in the coding, with none of the content - including our link, showing.

AllTop Linking Me to Other Sites Feeds, Webmasters Reporting Lots of Broken Links
I submitted my blog to All Top awhile ago and something seems to be wrong with their feed. They're sending people to mysite.com/truth-o-meter.com/this-is-a-post. It's not just truth-o-meter either. I'm getting links that are supposed to go to all kinds of political blogs. As a result, I'm getting a ton of broken links reported on Google Webmasters. I couldn't find any real support option on alltop.com, and when I log in, there are no sites for me to manage. Instead, I resubmitted the site with the correct feed address and in the comments, I mentioned the problem. All I got was a message saying the site was rejected. I believe because I already added the site. But I'm thinking they didn't pay attention to the comments. (In fact the message may have gone through an auto-filter considering how quickly it was rejected.) Is there a way to solve this? Is this a situation in which I would use the disavow tool? If All Top continues to create bad links, how do I stop the issue once and for all? Thanks!

Should I Pay For Link Removal?
Hi, I'm in the middle of a link removal campaign and getting a lot of replies from site owners asking for payment or directing me to a link which is effectively a payment page. The way I see it is my client is paying me to do their SEO. I'd rather be spending my time and their money building quality links, therefore the link removal process is in my way and requests for payment an insult. However, I am not without sympathy for site owners being expected to remove links free of charge. After all there's absolutely no incentive for them. So far I've had a zero tolerance attitude towards this and refused to pay, but just wondered what everyone else's opinion was. On the other hand, many site owners have been very helpful and removed the links at my request. Is it the right thing for me to remove these domains from my Disavow Links file? I'm finding it to be a bit of a moral conundrum to be honest!

What do you when the wrong site links to you?
In doing research of our backlink profile, I've found a couple dozen of links from off-topic websites linking to us. You see, our domain is Voices.com and tends to scoop up links from unrelated sites that are clearly trying to link to another site such as evp-voices.com or areavoices.com or dozens of others. What would you do? Ask the webmaster to remove them because they are completely unrelated? Or would you keep them if you believed they aren't causing any harm?

I have quality links coming in but with year terms such as 2012 in there, if i want to change them all to 2013 for example would it be badly seen by Google? I cant say i feel comfortable about doing it but they are my links and are related to our products. Any advice much appreciated.

Many competitor's backlinks are in content anchor links. Ho do I get these same links?
Hi I managed to open up OSE. I'm finding that much of the competition's backlinks are in content anchor text links. Am I supposed to get backlinks from these same pages using the same anchor text but linking back to my page or is that allowed? If so, how do I get these in content blog post links? Thanks. Sunil.

Free link on a Paid Link Blog
Hi there, I have been doing some outreaching, and managed to have a blog post accepted on a authority blog. They included links to my website, and I was very pleased with the placement. However, having browsed through the site, I was worried to see that they openly admit they allow 'reviews' of websites, with backlinks included, for $50 per review. I am worried I might be penalised without actually doing anything wrong. I did not pay for my link, but the link has been placed on a site which openly admits they accept payment for links. Should I be worried? Should I ask them to take it down? To date I have been told countless times by bloggers I am outreaching that if I pay $10, $50, $100 etc I can write a blog post. I have never accepted because of the risk of penalization. Now, unwittingly, I am linked to from a paid link site with a blog post that would look like I have paid for it because of the placement and style of back link. What do you think? Thanks,
