Best keyword traffic analysis tool for long tail search terms?

Please bare with me, this might turn into a bit of a waffle, but I'll get to my question... I promise!
I've just been looking at our CPC traffic for April and 2 search terms jumped out at me. I recognised them from previous keyword research because they are search terms that I expected to be high traffic (from past experience), but Google Adwords keyword tools showed them to have no potential traffic, and next to no potential traffic (literally 0 local searches and 12 local searches per month).
Last month search term A had 46 visits, with 19:25 average time on site and 8.70% bounce rate and search term B had 10 visits with 14:47 average time on site and 0% bounce rate. For very boring reasons we are not currently able to measure conversions on these terms since (they are related to consumer finance and when a customer applies for finance it is all done on our finance providers website) but despite the low volume, these are pretty good figures for on site behaviour and so it got me thinking...
Is there a more accurate tool to estimate traffic volume that we should be using rather than the Adwords tools?
I appreciate that the estimates are probably made based on historic search behaviour and April's traffic could just be a one off, but these particular terms used to be insanely popular 4-5 years ago when I worked at a competing company.

This may not help with PPC as much. I use concentrateme.com it allows you to import directly from Google analytics and gives you a visual layout of keyword analysis.The program also makes recommendations for long tail keywords. Ranks.nl has a very useful tool for suggested keywords (it uses Semrush date)

Completely agree with Mark about the PPC. Someone suggested it to me when I asked a similar question about local search, and I found it worked pretty well.
I've had some luck with SEMrush at smaller traffic volumes - I'm not sure I'd call it really accurate, but it seems to work fairly well as a guide when Google can't do it.
Sometimes the "related searches" option in plain old Google search can unearth some good starting points if you're looking for variations on phrases A and B, since you know they drive the right kind of visitor.

Your question makes complete sense :). This is why we often talk about using ppc data to test search volumes. If you're interested in checking the search volume for the term, depending on the type of query matching you're running on the keywords, you can check the impressions of the term in AdWords and get a better picture of the search volume for the query. If you're running exact match on the query, you'll get a much reliable picture of search volume by looking at impressions for the term. The metrics you mentioned give you a picture of the value of the term, and impressions will give you the search volume.
I'd also check out webmaster tools, both Google and Bing, for other search volume numbers. Bing's new tool was built specifically for KW research for organic search.

Do IP and/or DNS changes impact Paid search (Adwords, Bing, etc.)
What impact (if any) does IP or DNS changes, have on paid search campaigns? We recently performed an upgrade to our sites that required a datacenter change (but within the same region East US) and DNS change. We believe there may have been an impact to our ad campaigns in the form of suppression of our ads following the change, specifically - Google Adwords. I've 'lost' my Google Referral international traffic
We recently launched a new version of our website on the PrestaShop platform. On our old DNN platform, we would typically see several thousand clicks a month from Google Referral (domestic) and several thousand more collectively from Google Referral international traffic (i.e. UK, Canada, Germany, France). This was the data being reported in Google Analytics. Once the new site went live however, Google Referral traffic, both domestic and international, all dropped to 0. My question is: Did we lose this traffic due to some improper setting on our new platform, or is this Google Referral traffic simply being re-categorized into another category, i.e. Organic Search?

Will a javascript rewrite of city names on a home page from PPC traffic affect SEO negatively?
We have a client that was originally based out of Orlando and the entire website is SEO'ed for Orlando. In the long term we will start SEO'ing for Tampa. But In the short term, we want to drive traffic from Tampa to the website but we want that traffic to know the business specializes in Tampa service (he has local teams there). We are already using a ?_vsrefdom=changemynumber to change the phone number dynamically to a tampa area code for tracking purposes. We want to dynamically change all iterations of 'Orlando' with 'Tampa' using the same javascript. Does this cause any SEO problems or trip any alarms with Google?

targeting different keywords for site
A site i am working on seakayakingdevon.co.uk, currently optimising for sea kayaking wishes to target alternative keywords such as - canoeing, canoe trips etc. more importantly rank higher than a dedicated local canoeing center site. The issue is he provides kayaking trips and courses and not canoeing but believes a a large percent of his targeted market actual mistakenly searches for canoeing when they actually mean kayaking or simply have no preference - i.e kayaks are often confused with canoes especially with people who have no preference but are more inclined to search using terms related to canoeing, canoe day trip etc. As his site is geared to what he actually provides, I have advised that he would struggle to target such terms as he has no content relating to canoeing and risks the overall ranking positions and SEO efforts for sea kayaking terms.( As these would have to be diluted and would no longer relate to the actual page content.) What method could he deploy without sacrificing the sea kayaking optimisation? I realise he could optimise the site and content for both but question just how successful this would be when compared with the loss of dedicated sea kayaking audience. Is it really worth targeting keywords for service he doesn't provide? On a separate note the site is doing reasonably well since optmisation for localised serch terms but would like to target a wider UK audience as well i.e. tourism to the area. thanks

Doing Google Places for customer - best solution?
I work at a media agency in Denmark and I'm trying to open a Google Places-account for one of our retail-customers which is to be linked to the customers AdWords-account. I created a Places account and via bulk upload I submitted the customers 74 locations. I was then asked to verify my bulk upload, which I did. That's two weeks ago, and I've tried to get help from our Google contact but to little avail. Could the problem be that I am doing the places account on behalf of our customer, and thus when I am asked to verify the upload I supply my own information (contact phone and business name) rather than the customers? Have any of you had a similar experience? Is there an alternate path I can take to solve this?
